Summary: Good scanner for the price
Review: The Microtek Scanmaker V6upl is a good scanner at a decent price. It scans photos with good color and detail. The PhotoImact software (included) is excellent software for making adjustments to the photos. Forget the Adoble Photo Deluxe 2 (also included). OCR is above average using Textbridge 9, but not worth much (typical) using the included limited OCR software. The drawbacks are it takes up a lot of deskspace (but can can scan 8 1/2 x 14 documents), and the included transparency adapter gives very poor results on slides for which it is intended. Overall, a good scanner, well worth the current price, especially if you will scan some documents longer than 11 inches.

Review: This is my 2nd Microtek Scanner and I am relatively pleased with it this far. After I downloaded the updated driver supporting Windows ME, I could quickly install the scanner, although the "Scan Detector" does not always recognize the scanner. Since this model has no OFF/ON switch you could be wasting energy. Reflective art and negative 35mm filmstrips scan well (especially the "Descreen" and "Pre-Scan" functions sold me). The included LiquidLight 35 functions as a transparency adaptor, but it only works well with 35mm filmstrips, slides are difficult to scan due to a missing mechanism that hold them into place (Microtek suggests the use of clear tape!!!). Using the USB port, I find the scanner to be reasonably fast but noisy. For just $130.00, I think it's a good deal.

Summary: One star is the minimum?
Review: This is the most disappointing purchase I have ever made from Amazon. However, since I can't be bothered with sending it back and hunting for another, I'm stuck with it until I give in and buy a whole new one.This P.O.S system comes with a version of Omnipage that, according to the poorly translated Taiwanese documentation, must be installed in Safe Mode, to avoid crashing the system. It can be used from inside Photoshop's twain acquire if hooked up as a USB scanner -- but if this is done none of the accompanying software is able to locate the device and refuses to work, being only designed to expect a SCSI/Parallell interface. Of course, to use the included slide/negative scanner, you have to use the accompanying software... The software works fine if you hook it up as a Parallell scanner, but if you do that, Photoshop will crash immediately upon attempting to aquire from it. In other words, to scan inside Photoshop, you have to use USB, and that restricts you to a pathetically small array of scan configuration options, and the inability to use the included slide/negative lamp. The device is shoddily made [junk], and companies selling this should probably be under investigation for fraudulently representing the device as a completed and ready-to-purchase product. I haven't seen a scanner this BIG with the limited capabilities it has since 1991. ...

Review: We just purchased and returned two other scanners, one by mustek and one by umax. The first thing I noticed about this scanner is it's weight - it is well made and not flimsy like so many scanners you see. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but the scan quality is great and scanwizard twain interface is nicely done. It is a little bit picky in winME, but otherwise was an easy install. The Software bundled is nice.
