Review: An awesome scanner for the money. Paid $39 at Circuit City (Sorry Amazon). Works like a dream. Of course you could get a higher end scanner but it would be a higher end price to boot. Does everything that the model replacing it does for about $50 less.

Summary: Not as bad as these reviews make it out to be.
Review: HP has made a quality scanner at a bargain price.They've tried to make slide and negative scanning easy, and failed, but perhaps because it CAN'T be as easy as pressing one button on a scanner. You have to pay attention to details to get good results from slides and negatives, with either a $100 scanner or a $5,000 scanner, and I've used plenty of both. The software leaves a lot to be desired in terms of responsiveness, but if you READ THE MANUAL... (strange concept, eh?) you'll discover that there is a control application called the "Director" which makes scanning faster and easier to control, than fumbling with the default user interface and its auto-preview delay. I too had problems with the auto-cropping of whitespace and negative scanning, until I took 5 minutes to go to HP's website, read the TMA scanning document in the FAQ for this product, and do what it says to do (in essence: use the Director application instead of the scanner buttons). Which results in: perfect scans. My only complaint re: negative scanning: the mount is difficult to handle, and shoving a long strip of negs through it results in light leakage of the TMA lamp, and dark scans. So, you HAVE to cut your negs if you have strips of more than 4 per. Two stars for making a good scanner at a cheap price. One star for putting up with ignorant consumers who don't read manuals, and for actually putting useful information up on their website. HP may no longer provide good human support, but the online support is decent. Oh, and the software takes up NOWHERE NEAR 4GB, as one reviewer claimed. It is, however, atrociously slow (to be fair, I have yet to encounter ANY truly "fast" scanning software, on any platform).

Summary: Value for your cash
Review: I bought this scanner at a computer fair (Pikom PC Fair August 2003), in Malaysia. The lady bug like design catches my eyes, so I bought it after comparing the specs with some microtek and canon scanners, although Canon scanners are cheaper there. I only bought it so I can digitised 2 boxes(15 inch monitor box) of photos, but not slides or negatives. The scanner uses CCD which is currently better than CIS(new technology) used in some Canon scanners. Using CCD means heavier and bulkier scanners. Not a problem for me. Being a CCD type scanner, it is necessary to warm up the lamp, so my advise is to scan lots of photos in one go, which takes fewer time. You need at least 128mb RAM for this baby and a few hundred MB of space. Don't worry about the software that someone says took up over 4GB of your disc, it's not true. It works fine with WIN98SE with 64MB RAM but a bit slow. The "Profiles" were great. The body is quite sturdy. It fell from the edge of the bed(about 20 inches high)a few days ago but it still works fine. Email technical support was excellent(fast response and workable solutions), got a reply within less than 12 hours. Also you get to have a photo site from hp at hpphotto.com The quality was close to excellent for the price I paid.The scan area was a little bigger than A4, not too good here, and the power cord are quite short, about 62 inches.

Summary: Difficult scanner to use
Review: I found the controls confusing and difficult to operate. My previous scanner was an HP 2200c. The controls on the 2200c were easy to understand and use and required only a minimum number of mouse click to scan and save. The 3570c is a great leap backwards from my previous HP scanner. If you require a transparency scanner, I would suggest getting a 3500 and add the transparency adapter as an option. With the 3570c you have to use a piece of white paper over your scanned item to prevent the transparency holder from bleeding through to your scanned image. Also, I've found that the scanner has a tendency to "auto-crop" certain items even when the "auto-crop" function is disabled. I'm getting tired of having to drag the cropping handles around just to get the entire scanned image on the screen. I've owned this scanner for approximatly 1 hour and 30 minutes, and so far, I'm pretty disappointed. I'm ready to get my old 2200c back from my daughter and put this scanner in the closet.

Summary: pretty good scanner
Review: i hate scanning. bought this to do family scrapbook project while visiting elderly relative. I found it much easier to use than other scanners i have used. setup on windows XP was easy and use intuitive. the quality of the scan is acceptable, though it appears to have a bit of darkening on one side, even when i am not doing over-sized documents. this can be cropped out. software package seems pretty good. Have also used copy feature, and it was easy to deal with. for the price, this scanner is a very good value

Summary: I do not recommend purchasing this scanner
Review: I have been helping a friend of mine with this "thing" for months!! Typically it lasts for a few scans and then the gears go out. He has replaced it three times at WalMart and is suspicious that they keep putting the same scanner back on the shelf. HP's customer support leaves a lot to be desired and wants a credit card number up front for anything. I do not recommned purchasing this scanner. For basic document scanning I have had no problems with a Scanjet 2300C. For more advanced scanning I use a higher-end Microtek 9600XL. For slides/film/negatives go Nikon. You get what you pay for.

Summary: HP isn't what it used to be
Review: I have had nothing but trouble with this scanner from the beginning. In fact, I had to return it twice before I got one that worked at all. HP Tech support is not all that good. I wanted to find the newest driver, and there is one, but they charge $...for it, unlike all other companies where you can just download driver updates. Every call is long distance, they have no 800 number for tech support. Everything has an extra charge. HP has gotten to be one of the worst in quality and support. I will never buy another HP product.

Review: I have other HP products that I am very pleased with, an "all in one" Printer, a photo printer, and a portable printer that I am very pleased with. Howerer, this scanner is not one of those. I am very disappointed with it. I am taking it back to the store. I bought it mostly for scanning slides and negatives. this function does not work well at all when it does work. it then gives anerror when the scanning is complete and the image is lost.It is also very slow. I use my all in one for scanning but it does not have slide and negative abilities. HP customer service is the main glaring weak point with any product. If the product works OK, but if it dosnt you are out of luck you probably get no help from Hp. Many people know this by now. their reputation for good service is non existant.Several of us who looked into this problem suspect it is mostly a software problem. Since installing it in the computer it has also corrupted another HP software program.I would recommend that no one should buy this scanner. HP sure missed the mark with this one.

Summary: Great scanner for a great price
Review: I paid $40.00 for this scanner at Circuit City. I got it home and about 5min after I took it out of the box I was scanning and printing some very old photos (yes I did install all the software). I have used other scanners (school, work, kinkos) and this has got to be the simplest to use. Fool proof. Just press a little button, if you want to email your scan just press the button with the envelope picture, just a simple scan just press the scanner button. Like I said Fool Proof. I have no idea what others are saying about white space being cropped out and the guy that says you need 4gb to install the software is a total lie. I guess he must have something against the HP brand. I will admit that the lamp takes some time to warm up (30 sec.) but that is really no problem. I will admit that the scans that it makes are not as good quality as some high end scanners but it is really great. I have scanned some old photos that are like 3x4 and have printed them up to 8x10 with great quality. I give it 5 stars because of the price I paid, the ease of use and the quality I get from it with my experience.

Summary: A good bet
Review: I purchased this after returning the Microtek 4850 (which I kept for only one day). The Microtek had a better price, better warranty and better reviews. Unfortunately, although I am an experienced computer user, I found their program confusing and very difficult to navigate. Having no desire or time to devote to attempting to learn to use the 4850 I exchanged it for the HP3570c. HUGE improvement!!! I was up and running in moments. The program is intuitive and straight forward and the results speak for themselves. I deducted one star for the poor warranty. Come on HP - stand behind your products better!
