Summary: Outsanding performance but....bulky, photo quibble
Review: I've just set up the printer today, so this is my initial impression after playing with it.I love it! It is a bit larger than I expected, mainly because angled paper tray at rear makes it take up a lot of depth (22.5 inches). Text output is OUTSTANDING and fast (up to 22ppm), but like all things in life, it comes with a small but noticable compromise. Although the photos are quite stunning, any areas with dark black have droplets that are visible (only if you look closely) but otherwise the image is stunning and very sharp. For professional quality photo output I would recommend a dedicated photo printer (check out Canon i950)but note that it is not optimized for text (I believe it prints text around 2 pages per minute. Also, if you do intensive document scanning, it seems a bit slow when using the document tray on top. There is also quite a bit of annoying beeping going on (pushing buttons, completed faxes, that I hope I can turn off...) If you want a home office beast of burden that can handle a variety of tasks with very high quality results, this is it! Helpful notes:
1. If it makes funny clicking noises and the phone you plug into it does not always work, and your faxes just stall with continuous beeping, switch the phone lines in back...oops!
2. If you are upgrading from an older printer, you will need to purchase a USB 2.0 cable (not included)

Summary: Puts HP to shame!
Review: If you are in the market for a multi-function that can also print photos, don't even think twice before buying this device. I have been a long-time loyal to HP's, and I was in the market to replace my aging HP T45xi because wife wanted to be able to print photos directly from her digital camera. Anyway, since I was not a big fan of my T45's bloated software and the fact that it couldn't be gracefully used on a home network, I started to look around. When I bought my T45 about 4 years ago, I had these two issues but I somehow worked around them. To my surprise, their newest versions still have the same issues. HP are you sleeping? But let me be fair and tell you that otherwise HP printers have reliably served my purpose very well for the longest time. Let me point out here that I always research my electronic purchases pretty darn well before actually going out and spending a single penny. This time consuming process serves two purposes: for one I get updated with what's going on in the market, and secondly I am in a better position to make an informed decision. After several days of research and comparison among comparable models from HP, Canon, Lexmark, and Epson, I finally went ahead and purchased the Canon. I was a bit skeptical at first because for one, this baby costs $100 less than the comparable HP model so I was thinking I probably wouldn't get the HP quality from this printer. Well, let me tell you that it did not take this printer any time at all to impress me! Let me just conclude by saying that if you are looking for a multi-function, this is the best device in the market your money can buy.

Summary: Great Amazon service
Review: If you want an all in one, this is a super bargain. I just got this 2 days ago and am very happy with it. It prints at lightening speed, and from what I've read, the cost per copy is only about 2.5 cents. That is as close to laser as you can get. This prints much faster than the HP all in one at my office. I ordered this on a Thursday and got it the following Tuesday. I saved over $70 by buying it on Amazon. The local stores had to order it anyway, so why not order it on Amazon and save money?

Review: Im not going to add all the details as everyone because they are all true. This is a great printer, but like everything else its not perfect. Heres the CONs: The ink smears. No matter what kind of paper you use or what settings you set for the ink dry timer, it still smears on regular paper (By regular paper I mean paper that you use to print text). esides that its GREAT!! Its FAST & very relaible. I did many hours of research before purchasing this printer and found that it is better than an HP. Ive been an HP fan for years but the cost of the ink cartridges combined w/ the features - the CANON wins by far in the long run. Picture quality printing is Excellant.

Review: Like many people, I spent weeks, if not months, reading all the reviews before deciding which model to get. And although I owned a dedicated flatbed scanner -- also Canon -- we needed a multifunction to cover everything else. Well, so far I'm very happy. I won't go into all the specs, but the high points are as such: Set-Up -- Easy set-up with WinXP Pro. Get yourself a USB cable FIRST! Ink tanks pop right in the machine. I've barely gotten into everything it can do but the simple one-touch buttons (print, scan and copy) take care of the basic stuff. It alerts you when an ink tank is running low, so you should never be caught short. Printing -- Black and white prints have been very good... no smudging or paper jams. A 200-page script came out perfect. This isn't ultra-fast (i.e., it doesn't spew out paper) but the quality is excellent. I like that it has a pop-up window telling you the status of a printing job -- handy for big documents. Color prints were also very good. It's worth getting quality paper -- it absolutely make a difference. I'm having trouble getting the exact size to fit on the paper, but there are still many options to work out (borderless, etc). I'm confident that photos taken with my 4MP camera will be quite stunning on the right paper. The color prints of magazine scans I've done so far have been great... Copies -- Easy to do and haven't seen a problem. Can't go wrong I guess. Scanning -- the only difference I've seen compared to my flatbed was the scan time. The MP is somewhat slower but the quality looks virtually the same. You get the same scan options (descreen, etc.) and the one-touch button gives you the option to go directly to an image editing program. The size of the glass plate may be smaller but not by that much. CONS -- nothing major. It shakes/vibrates slightly when printing but it's quiet. The scanner makes the usual 'scan' noise (if you're familiar with that). All in all, a great machine. Seems ideal for a home business andn good value for money... although I've yet to explore all the options. And hey, it's very convenient NOT to have to run to a print store every time.

Review: My husband and I were looking to purchase a multi-function copier/fax/scan/printer; our research led us to Canon; Amazon was by far the cheapest, so I ordered one. I have had absolutely no problems. I love this machine. I use it a lot for my job and have found it up to the task. It prints quickly and faxes with no problems. I have not tried the scanner function yet. It prints beautiful photos. I love the separate ink cartridges. I would highly recommend this product

Summary: Ahhhhhhhh....More Desk Space!
Review: My precocious 2-year old killed my beloved Canon S900 by pulling it off the desk and then standing on it over the holidays. With desk space shrinking, I searched for a replacement that could also relieve additional space from small roving arms (read as scanner, printer and digital media reader). I landed on the MultiPass MP730 based on my positive experience with other Canon products. Although it's not noted in the installation materials, I had to daisy-chain my unit, but it led to no problems whatsoever (phone line from wall to internal pc modem, out of modem to MultiPass printer, out of MultiPass printer to telephone hand set). In no random order, here are my initial findings after three weeks of use: a.) Individual Ink Tanks are awesome (here with a double-capacity black tank and single capacity cyan, magenta and yellow). They ARE the money saving feature they're cracked up to be (why oh why oh why didn't Canon use the same 6-series cartridges as their awesome S900 and ixxx series printers?) The tanks are hard to get to in the guts of the machine (under the scanning platen) but I think it makes for a quieter unit. b.) Plain paper printing - Awesome! Fast! Good Color! Black and white speed is commendable, color a little slower. c.) Photos - high quality paper - Excellent. It could never really rival the Canon S900 with it's additional photo cyan and photo magenta cartridges but the results are stunning even to the discerning eye. (I've pretty much abandoned printing quantities of photos at home. It's too easy to upload to a service and have them delivered to your door - one of the reasons I migrated to a multifunction machine rather than a new high-end photo printer). The results really are surprisingly good for the occassional photo for grandma. d.) Digital media reader - works just like my SanDisk reader except it's tucked conveniently into the printer body. It's always "hot" and appears on the list of system drives in Windows Explorer. Fast! The little thumbnail generator (of what's on the card) is cute but not worth much (who leaves photo's on their compactflash cards???). They're too small to discern photo quality anyway. e.) Copying - Black and white is fast enough to warrant a "Wow!". Color is a little slower but with excellent quality. To me, this is one of the most valuable features of this machine. f.) Faxing - I've only faxed twice, but both were flawless using the automatic document feeder. The progress status of your fax operation is mysteriously cryptic on the LCD however. g.) Scanning - At least as good as my Canon D660u scanner on pages, pictures, documents and color output. Works smoothly and flawlessly, if not a little slowly. The true power and benefit of this machine is the ability to perform many of the above functions while your PC is powered off. I also tried the machine at "multi-tasking" color copying while uploading photos and no problems were noted. Some might consider the footprint large, but with the scanning bed sideways (perpendicular) to the paper path, I find it fits the desk a whole lot better than the prior flatbed scanner did (and is out of the reach of 2-year olds). It seems solidly built and the control panel layout is logical and easy to use. One negative is that I've experienced a few erratic problems while using the included utility "Canon Easy WebPrint" which attaches to your browser's header bar. I would recommend NOT installing this utility software until the bugs are worked out. Setup and documentation were logical and easy. Why would Canon NOT include a USB cable with the printer???? Based on my early experiences, I would highly recommend this machine. It's worth the few extra bucks to get Canon quality.

Review: Ok granted I've only had the unit a week or so...but it's been a really good week. Easy to get running and works like a dream, fax, scanner and copy unit are great and just printed out about a dozen foto's. This is a great buy.

Summary: I love this thing!
Review: OK, my own rule is that you should always take overenthusiastic reviews with a grain of salt. But I can't help but be superhappy about this thing. I had two HP printers previously, which each performed OK for about 6 months before I encountered the same problems (printing out streams of gunk, difficulty getting it to print if there was a paper jam, etc.). I blamed the manufacturer, so I decided to get a multifunction from Canon. I cannot vouch for Canon's other products, but this is a home run. I have had it for about 7 weeks now, and it runs like a dream.
* Printer: Ok, it takes a couple seconds to warm up, but once it gets printing, it is super quick. The speed on the fastest setting (draft, grayscale) is amazing.
* Photo Printer: I printed out a family photo and hung it on the wall (I used matte paper), and it looks great. I am very happy with the detail and coloration in the picture.
* Copier: I love the feeder, and it works great. It copies super quick, and no problems.
* Scanner: Have used the scanner a few times (Presto Pagemaker is the software that comes with it), and it is great. Just push the copy button, the software automatically comes up on your computer, and you click "scan". And you are done!
For me, printers have always been the bane of my existence. (You know that's true when you have gotten into shouting matches with your printer.) The problem with most printers is that they work when you don't need them, and they fail when you do need them. But this one works all the time, and always quickly and without problems. It is as easy and one-touch as multifunctions get, and the software has proven to be valuable. I really couldn't be happier. Hope you find the same joy I did.

Summary: Had problems but product is awesome
Review: Ordered mine through Amazon and received it after 5 business days via UPS Ground. Product was well packed and as I was putting it together ran into some snafu. I noticed that after I installed the printer head and cartridges that the carriage was stuck in the middle. I've managed to free it but I kept getting an alarm/alert message saying there was a problem. I couldn't believe that this will happen to me after reading all the positive reviews here in Amazon. So I called up Canon Tech Support and they determined that it was a defective unit. They sent me a replacement unit overnight. Once again, overnight!!! I asked them if this was going to be a refurbished unit and I was told that it would be brand new. The following afternoon UPS dropped off a brand new unit. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the quality and speed of service that I have received from Canon. The replacement unit worked as reviewed and now I'm a proud owner of a Canon MP730. I will not forget the awesome service I received. This has made my whole ordeal bearable. They now have a customer for life...
