Summary: Love This Scanner!
Review: I wanted to purchase a scanner for a number of reasons, but I wanted one that was of good quality, easy to set up, and inexpensive. This scanner was very easy to install into my computer--it only took about ten minutes to install and you really can't beat the price! (especially, with Amazon's free shipping) It doesn't take up much desk space either. I use the Canon CanoScan LiDE 20 Scanner for scanning old photos and pictures and they turn out excellent. I've been using this scanner for a couple of months and no problems so far. Highly recommend!!

Summary: This product can fail to work
Review: Scanner would not "UNLOCK". The travel safety mechanism failed to unlock and made the unit unusable.Canon offers replacement as part of warranty. Endless hours of troubleshooting

Summary: Needs trick to install OmniPage SE on Mac OS X
Review: The scanner works great, but under Mac OS X some programs run in the Classic emulation box, instead of natively. In addition, the included OmniPage LE didn't want to install under OS X until I did the following:

1. Copy the folder "OmniPage" from the installation CD to the desktop of your hard disk.

2. Click once on the copy of "OmniPage" and select Get Info from the File menu. In the window that appears, expand out Ownership & Permissions, expand out Details, change all three Access settings to Read & Write, click Apply to enclosed items. Note: you may have to click on the padlock icon and enter an administrator password to open the padlock.

3. Close the Get Info window

4. Open the copy of "OmniPage" and then double-click on "OmniPage SE C Setup".

5. Delete the "OmniPage" folder from the desktop.

The above allowed the entire OmniPage application to install without any errors. Even better, the resulting installed copy of OmniPage runs fine, though it does run in Classic instead of as a native application.

Summary: Quick, easy and works great!
Review: This is the first scanner I have ever purchased, and only the second scanner I have worked with, so I am a novice at scanning, but I am in love with this scanner! It was very easy to install on my computer, the pictures look great, and the photo software that comes with the scanner is also easy to use and has many more "bells and whistles" than MS Photo Editor. The price was excellent as well, and I am looking forward to preserving old photographs and letters in the digital format.
