Summary: Fantastic
Review: I thought the Canon CanoScan LiDE 20 scanner was easy to install, it took me about 5 min. to install. It's quiet and just fun to fool around with. I recommend it to all of you.

Summary: Great scanning for cheap
Review: I recently bought this scanner to archive my wedding photos. I loved it, and here's why:

1. It is very affordable.
2. It doesn't have an AC line, and less wire under the desk is a good thing.
3. It scans good pictures. 48bit color, and can go up to 1200dpi. Although for everyday use I find 300 to be plenty.
4. Reasonable speed. Since I scan mostly at 300dpi, each scan of a 4x6 photo is no more than 20 seconds. The trick is to preview only once to get the scan area, then just scan away the rest without preview. 9 rolls of film (7x36, 2x24) took us two nights.
5. software is easy to use. I mostly use the TWAIN with photoshop.
6. light and compact. After I am done with my batch of films, I just unplug the USB and stashed in one of the empty shelves under my TV, so it doesn't take up desk space.

Summary: Looking for the best budget scanner, this is it!
Review: This is the perfect home scanner. It doesn't have network support, it's a little noisy and it could be a bit fastet. But look at the price! You won't find a better deal, the picture quality is outstanding! 75-1200 dpi. One touch options, USB powered! Slick design, great bundled software pack (OmniPage Lite OCR, a few other propritary photo related programs, featured Twain compliant driver), it's a great package for the money, and you get a brand name product. I'd highly recommend it.

Summary: Download Acrobat reader 6. and reinstall program
Review: Those of who wants to convert paper document into PDF format. download Acrobat Reader version 6. reinstall CanoScan software. it will show PDF as selectable option. Very acurate OCR built into reader so you can cut and paste text right out of the scanned images. Probably the most worth while feature that has been added since purchasing of this scanner.

Summary: Less than 2 OCR pages per minute
Review: This is a good scanner, but I was looking for an improvement over my fine CanoScan 650U. I'm determined to make scans for OCR at a rate of 4 pages per minute. My CanoScan 650U gets 2 pages per minute and I've had it for 2 years. I figured a USB 2 connector and a newer CanoScan might do what I needed.

Here are the results of my tests. Scans with CanoScan LiDE-20 were slightly slower than my old CanoScan N650U (usb 1). Apparently, the speed is controlled by the mechanism, not the USB port. As best I could tell, the moving parts were essentially the same.

Reviewed Scanners (scans alone, OCR done later):

CanoScan N650U: 5 pages, 2.5 min (good accuracy)
Visoneer 8800: 5 pages 1.25 min (very poor accuracy)
CanoScan LiDE 20: 5 pages 3.4 min (good accuracy)

The search for a fast OCR scan continues...

Summary: So cool- so sharp- so low cost
Review: My PC is only a 5 year old 366Mhz Win 98; has the USB 1.1 ports so I knew this would fit the bill: namely, an easy, low cost, good quality scanner to use photos, magazine images, or other printed color documents into my Word or Nero CD cover program. Amazon delivered earlier than promised (for free, in a plain Amazon shipping outer box.
It took longer to unpack and remove the shipping tapes than it did to install the Canon scanner driver. Canon includes a USB data cable. There is no power cord; the USB cable supplies that also.
I skipped installing the other programs; I use M/S Photo Editor to launch the scanner and for most glossy photos I DON'T have to adjust gamma, brightness, or contrast. Although small, cheap, quiet, and slim, it delivers excellent results!.
Not surprising to me: I use a Canon 35mm camera, 2 Canon color BubbleJet printers, and a 5 year old Canon LBP-460 laser printer with great results. Canon rules !
Stop reading and just order one!

Summary: Software has a few bugs - but overall a great little scanner
Review: This scanner performs very well. It's significantly higher in resolution and faster than our old UMAX Astra 610S at a fraction of the price, is far smaller and thinner, and requires no separate power brick - I love that it's USB-powered and only needs a single connection to the computer. (It's great with a laptop!)

The only problem I've had with it is in its software - sometimes its built-in "Multi-Crop" function doesn't work very well, producing partial or corrupted scans. We rarely do any scanning that would require that, so it's not really a problem.

It's not a professional-level scanner by any means, but who would expect one at this price? It IS an excellent value for what it offers.

Summary: Great machine and a super price!
Review: If your're not a scanning techie and don't need to have the fastest, highest resolution and don't need to scan anything larger than 8 1/2 x 11 and don't want to spend more than [a little money] THIS IS THE SCANNER FOR YOU!

Easy to set up, it comes with an array of good software to handle photos and documents. Scanning itself couldn't be simpler. Click the scan icon, check the preview, click the scan button and that's it.

Image quality is very acceptable for all but professional level work. For the home or home-based office, it is perfect. I haven't found any real drawbacks yet. Here's one, you do have to use the supplied USB cable to connect to your pc. It is short-ish (about 4 feet)and might limit your ability to locate the scanner in the most convenient place.
