Description:

Affordable, easy to install, and brimming with great features, Sony's Xplod-model CDX-F5000 automotive CD/receiver will take your car stereo to exciting new heights. Use it to drive up to 4 (front/rear) speakers, or use it as a preamp to feed an optional high-power rear-channel amplifier or subwoofer for heavier-duty audio needs. Its CD/minidisc changer compatibility lets you expand your system to include multidisc, MD, or MP3 CD compatibility.

The built-in amplifier pumps 23 watts per channel x 4 (52 wpc x 4 peak power) into 4-ohm speakers for clear, full-bodied sound at high and low listening levels. New to this model, the receiver includes a revised CD playback mechanism and power chip called "Drive-S," whose key benefit is improved sound quality alongside an impressive 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio.

Audio processing options abound. DSO is a proprietary circuit that subtly phase shifts the preamp output of the head unit's left and right channels to simulate a sound source that's vertically high in origin. It alters the frequency response in a section of the sound to further enhance the perception that the sounds are originating from a physically higher source. This effectively raises the sound stage above the dashboard, even if the speakers are mounted low in the doors.

EQ3 is a built-in equalization circuit providing 3 bands of frequency level adjustments stored in 7 user-adjustable presets. Select between rear-speaker preamplifier outputs and subwoofer outputs, depending on your application. A built-in subwoofer crossover (low-pass filter) lets you optimize the system for use with an external powered sub for neighborhood-rousing bass if the situation warrants.

For the tuner, you'll enjoy 18 FM and 12 AM station presets, as well as SSIR-EXA tuning. SSIR-EXA adjusts the tuner's bandwidth depending on environmental conditions to ensure the clearest reception from any location.
