Summary: The World at Your Fingertips!
Review: Sensing that I needed a new hobby and sensing the turmoil and ever-growing danger around the world, I decided to get myself a shortwave radio. I have always had an interest in shortwave and found it to be a sort of bizarre and intriguing sub-culture of sorts. When you think of it, shortwave is really quite amazing. It has been linking people to international news, music, sports and culture long before the internet or cable-tv. Sure, it's easier to simply log on to the web, go to a news source and do your thing, or turn on your tv and go to your favorite cable news channel. But where's the fun in that I ask you?
After much research (including reading many reviews here on Amazon), I decided to go with this Sangean model. Honesstly, I wasn't expecting much for the price. I figured that since it was the most inexpensive model, it would be just a very basic, mediocre machine. Boy was I wrong! Just last night I used the machine for the first time. As opposed to the usual deluge of biased, boring American news programs, I was enjoying braodcasts by the likes of the BBC, Voice of Russia, RAI, Radio Netherlands- to name just four!
So what if the stations were sometimes a little fuzzy and went in and out? To me, that's part of the novelty and appeal. Shortwave can be tremendously informative , fun, and, with this terrific and user-friendly machine, inexpensive!

Summary: Cheap, simple, good, and fun!
Review: There are basically three rules for a shortwave radio to keep the interest of the beginning listener. It should be cheap, simple, and good. Cheap enough to purchase without feeling like it's a major commitment. Simple enough to operate intuitively. And good enough quality to satisfy the listener's ears. A listener with a good radio will want to repeat the listening experience again and again. But finding a radio that's inexpensive AND good has always been elusive for the beginner, and for radio makers.

This is that radio. The Sangean SG-622 is unquestionably the best value in a shortwave radio, not just for beginners, but for any listener of any experience level. It offers nice performance, and it's a totally painless introduction to shortwave listening. It's very easy to tune, and with a simple longwire attached to the antenna, it's easy to find listenable stations. It practically pays for itself with just the first few hours of listening pleasure, and it leaves virtually no excuse not to enjoy it for years to come. This is an ideal gift idea for children or just about anybody you want to share this fun hobby with.

Personally, I want to have mine when I travel overseas. It's very small and packable, and shouldn't attract scrutiny in customs (it doesn't look "dangerously" hi-tech). If it gets lost, stolen, or damaged, I won't fret about it because it can be replaced easily and cheaply. I couldn't think of a more carefree way to maintain my connection to the world at large.

When I began listening to SW many years ago, I couldn't find a halfway decent radio that wouldn't make a serious dent in my wallet. I never thought I'd see a major manufacturer sell a good shortwave radio for less than a third of what I might have paid back then. For the beginner and experienced listener both, this is simply too great a bargain to pass up. The Sangean SG-622 proves the age-old concept that cheap, simple, and good equals fun! It can't be anything but five stars.

Review: Really great radio for the money. I was surprised by how good this radio sounds for its size. Receives very well, and easy to tune.

Summary: shortwave radio
Review: The first thing you notice about the radio is how small it is then you plug it in and notice how sensitive the receiver is which is exactly what a shortwave radio needs more than anything else. The advantage over a more expensive radio includes simplicity in operation and a more traditional old fashioned "turn the dial" tuning knob. I have had a couple other shortwave radios long ago but this thing blows them out of the water performance wise. Being a ham radio operator for 14 years I can tell you expensive radios do not always equate to having fun. Sometimes smaller economy radios like this one can be more fun than a complex, expensive radio. If you are interested in listening to the more popular shortwave radios and not the faint hard to find stations this radio would be ideal give it a try.

Summary: Good choice!
Review: I know nothing about shortwave, but I needed to purchase a radio for an upcoming trip. Based on its positive reviews, I chose this one. I have been pleasantly surprised with its performance. The instructions were easy to understand, so getting it set up was no problem. Once I brought the radio to my house out in the country, I found that it picked up dozens of SW stations, and the other frequencies also come in very clearly. I've had a blast tinkering with it - it's definitely my favorite new toy. Don't worry about buying an extra antenna, adapter, or earphones, because it's all included with the radio.

Summary: Small box, big delivery
Review: I bought this as a replacement for my ball park and work site portable radio. My kids are studying languages so I thought, why not international? This little set is great. The little speaker isn't hi-fi, but it is adequate. I haven't tried the headphone jack, but I expect it will be better. Reception in the house and outside has been rewarding. It fluctuates, but it is short wave.

Summary: Good little radio
Review: I'm very pleased with the quality and performance of this radio. For the money it's hard to beat. Not a lot of features, but that's why other radios cost more. Good reception. I recommend this radio.

Summary: nice for the price
Review: This a great little radio for the money for the casual
shortwave listener. Has good selectivity for a low priced
unit. I would have liked the DC power supply and an earphone included with the unit.

Summary: Good For Size And Price
Review: I bought the Radio Shack version of this radio (the DX-397) just as something to hear what was available on the shortwave bands. I am new to shortwave listening and am so far impressed with what I have found so far with this radio, but it doesn't seem to have great selectivity. Every station I have heard so far has at last 2 or 3 other stations bleeding into it, which makes it difficult to listen to certain stations sometimes. But for its tiny size and low price, it is a good deal.
