Power, performance, and design have reached new heights with Grundig's compact Yacht Boy 400 Professional Edition radio. In addition to its sleek titanium look, the 400PE is packed with features. The radio pulls in AM, FM, and shortwave frequencies, and SSB (single-sideband) circuitry grants reception of long-distance, two-way shortwave communications such as amateur (HAM), marine, and aeronautical radio. Randomly programmable memory presets provide quick access to 40 of your favorite stations, while PLL (phase-locked loop) synthesized tuning ensures rock-solid frequency stability. Listen in stereo through headphones or powered external speakers (not included). The 400PE tunes both upper and lower sideband with infinite tuning. There are no tuning gaps in the shortwave receiver, so there is access to all frequencies. The 400PE offers a user-selectable wide/narrow bandwidth filter, switchable 9 and 10 kHz scan rates on MW (the AM broadcast band) for use in both North America and Europe, as well as the following user-selectable tuning steps: 1 kHz/5 kHz in SW; 1 kHz/9 kHz/10 kHz in MW; and 1 kHz/9 kHz in LW. Other features include a DX/Local switch, Hi/Low tone options, and FM-stereo with mono option for cleaner reception. A liquid crystal display (LCD) shows frequency, band, automatic turn-on, time, and clock/timer modes (dual clocks show time in 24-hour format). Choose between beeper and radio for your alarms; the sleep timer is programmable in 10-minute increments (up to 60 minutes). The radio includes a telescopic antenna for FM and shortwave reception and a built-in ferrite antenna for MW and LW (medium wave, long wave) reception. An external antenna for shortwave (not included) can be connected through a built-in receptacle. The 400PE runs on 6 AA batteries (also not included).
