Summary: Don't plan to use this at work.
Review: I needed a radio to use in the office, that had antenna inputs to compensate for the indoor location. So, I purchased this based on the reviews and the price and the ability to use an external antenna. I was satisfied with the reception (it's OK), but the radio was not designed to be used with my headphones (I have cheap headphones, but I've tried this radio with three different pair of cheap headphones with the same results). The output is mono, not stereo (something I am OK with, but it should be noted if you plan to listen to FM music rather than AM talk). The volume control could only be set to the lowest levels for use with the headphones and even then, the volume control was very sensitive (a mere nudge would make it way too loud, or too quiet). Furthermore, It has no station presets. If you don't change radio stations often, and you are satisfied with mono (not stereo) sound, then I'd say it's OK. Otherwise, save your money and look for a system with a few more features.

Summary: Great Radio
Review: I just received this excellent radio a few days ago and I have to say that I am very satisfied. I just wanted a basic AM/FM radio and had some trouble finding a good one at a reasonable price.It has excellent reception on both AM and FM bands, can pick up AM stations very, very far away with the built in antennae. Also, does not sound too bad on the FM band also. Very satisfied, would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a basic, well-built, solid radio.

Summary: Satisfied Owner of Two
Review: I've owned two of these units for over five years. They have excellent sound, pull in distant stations very well indeed, and run "forever" on a set of batteries. I use mine a couple of hours a week and change the batteries after three years only because I'm afraid of battery corrosion. Don't even bother to plug them in. This is the best solution for an emergency backup news radio. Don't be fooled by rechargeable or manually cranked units: ni-cads will always fail you when most needed and the crank jobs skimp big on the quality of the radio component.

Summary: Super Radio Not!!
Review: I had been looking for a decent, affordable everyday radio for use at the beach, etc. and selected this model based on the customer reviews. I received the radio in the timeframe promised and as I proceeded to use it for the first time the antenna snapped right off at the base. I was appalled. I've never lost an antenna and couldn't believe how cheaply this radio was made. GE should be ashamed of themselves. I'm returning it for a refund.

Summary: The best radio I have ever owned.
Review: The GE Superadio III is impossible to beat. Long battery life (6 D cells), superb AM sound that can be made even better on strong signals by switching it to "wide" bandwidth mode, and sensitivity that allows me to listen to NY and NJ AM stations during the day at my home in MD, using just the Superadio's built-in antenna. The only way it could be better would be to have a digital frequency display, but the analog "dial" is OK enough once you get used to it. The FM section is no slouch, either. Mine picks up a distant high-school station without even extending the antenna. And, the Superadio is also one of only two radios I've ever been able to use at home (near a busy tower) with no front end overload problems at all. (The other radio is a discontinued model that cost 2.5 times as much--in 1970 dollars--as the Superadio does now.)

Summary: The best AM/FM receiver!
Review: I buyed a used Ge Super Radio one year ago, and i compared this equipment with other receivers and the comparision is very interesting! With Super Radio i can listen radio stations 400 kms away! With another radio, i only listen a regional stations (100 kms). The selectivity is great, the sensitivity is excellent and the audio is very strong. This radio is very economical, because the batteries can be used until 3 months without change! Summary: Nothing super about this radio.
Review: I bought this radio based on reviews and newsgroup messages saying that this was a really good radio at pulling in weak signals. Thats just what I needed as I work in a metal building and I can barley get 3 stations. So I bought this with that in mind. I get it out of the box and I can hardly tune in WLS and I live 30 miles from Chicago. So I try FM the tuner numbers don't match up with the frequency and I can barley get any stations at all and they are all so static filled that I turned it off and back in the box it went. I calling today to see if I can return it.

Summary: GE Superadio 3
Review: This receiver has one main function; to bring in as many AM (MW) stations as possible, and make them listenable. It does that with flying colors. The analog-style tuning is often hit and miss, but hey, use the tuning scale to mark favorites. The sound reproduction is great, with crisp highs and deep bass. The bass is re-enforced with a loudness control ('bass-boost'as it's called nowadays), that accents the lower audio frequencies at low volume levels. An excellent tuned RF stage resides within, that attenuates images (false signals reproduced by a receiver every 455 kHz that doesn't have a TRF, as well as out of band stations that invade the true signal on the frequency you're trying to listen to). It also improves signal sensitivity as well. Overall station pulling ability was a little better than the much touted 'CCRADIO'. While the CCRADIO has some bells and whistles (a dial light,lcd display, and a tacked on weather/tv band)to glitz it up, the final consideration is what did you buy the set for? To receive long distance AM of course, and a TRF is MANDATORY for such a function. The CC has no TRF and thus suffers from interfering images on AM (especially from the 5 mHz short wave band), and signal overload if you connect an external AM antenna to it. The Superadio doesn't possess that problem, and has superior sensitivity to boot. Also, radio ads (as on Coast to Coast AM and Dreamland), say '...fading on the CCRADIO is reduced by as much as 90%...'. Since the CC possesses no asynchronous detection, that just ain't so, fading was just as bothersome on it as on the Superadio or my old Panasonic RF-2200 multi-band portable. If you want to hear a portable that fights fading, check out a SONY ICF-2010, a superior world band portable with asynchronous detection, lcd readout, a TRF, S-meter and so-forth...If you're interested in long range AM reception, paying a [little moredoesn't make sense when all you're paying the additional bucks for is ad-hype.

Summary: You can't go wrong with the Superadio III
Review: If you're looking for a radio that will pick up stations like the quality radios from 30+ years ago (I'm 39), then you need look no farther. Tired of having to move radios in unusual positions (draping power cords, etc) in order to get my Cardinals baseball games in clearly, I decided to try to find a radio like the one my father had many years ago. I was somewhat concerned about the GE brand name as many of the items I have purchased within the last several years form GE have been substandard. NOT WITH THE SUPERADIO III! The sound is good. The midrange is very flat and clear. It picks up most stations I seek even with the FM antenna down. My other radios can't even pull them at all. AM is exceptional. I live near high power transmission lines, and it doesn't phase it a bit. GE could have put in a digtal tuner, or a weighted flywheel for tuning. Also they could have used better feeling controls and a more substantial case. BUT, this would have dramatically changed its price range and not have improved performance much. Overall it is an exceptional value!! This may be the last product with the GE name that actually performs to the level of quality that GE was once known for.

Compared to Radio Shack's (12-603A) clone of GE SR lll. selectivity is much better as is alignment and range.The Select-A-Tenna helps even more especially at night for 1,000 mile plus away stations.Amazon may be selling the Select-A-Tenna soon, if it is not at this time you may find it [online] and look under AM antennas.I compared day time reception to a[n expensive] Sony and results were shockingly simalar and night time DXing it gave the ...
