Rating: Summary: A good solution, but not the best Review: After reading the extremely positive and extremely negative reviews, I wasn't sure that I'd be happy with my purchase. I can't say that I am or that I'm not. However, I can say that it did what I expected -- the majority of the negative reviews are from people whose computers just don't make the cut regardless of what type of video device they're using.I thought this would be a cheap solution ($200 compared to $3000 for a new digital camera), but as it turns out, a decent MiniDV camcorder from Sony costs in the range of $400-$900. If I hadn't purchased this product, I would only have $200 to go... but if I hadn't purchased it, I wouldn't know how much fun video editing can be. This device gives you the potential to edit analog movies and make them look PROFESSIONAL (I really prefer Windows Movie Maker over the software that comes with the package), but the video and audio quality is obviously still amateur-looking (and sounding). If you want to create the next Titanic, you're going to need a higher image quality, so go with a new digital camera (this device is only for analog cameras), but if you just want to play around and get a cheap taste before making a more expensive dive, this is the way to go. It all boils down to how important video quality is to you.
Rating: Summary: I've been dazzled! Review: All I can say is this thing is amazing! It is truely plug and play. I was able to use this without even looking at the instructions or installing anything that came with it. I just plugged it in and captured through Adobe Premiere! If your'e looking for something super simple, this is it!
Rating: Summary: Dazzle works just fine with Adobe Premiere! Review: Based on a previous review, I was worried that the Dazzle wouldn't capture video unless you used the included software. After trying it myself, I have found that all I had to do is simply plug in the Dazzle and my VCR (Windows XP already had the necessary drivers). I was capturing video with Adobe Premiere (using the 1394 output) in less than five minutes (yes - 5)! I didn't install the included software. The result was exceptional quality for the money.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Product Review: Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge does exactly what it's supposed to do. It allows you to transfer analog video (ie VHS tapes) to digital format. I had attempted to do this using the TV card that came with my computer, but the quality was at best mediocre. Using the Hollywood DV Bridge the quality is just as good as the video tape. I have made VCDs with quality as good as video tape. I have recorded 2 hour videos with no problems and no system crashes. I can't comment on Dazzle customer support since with everything working perfectly I haven't had to call them. I do not use the Dazzle software that came with the product. I am using Pinnacle Studio 8 which works great. I had the Pinnacle software before and had spent the time to learn how to use it so I never used the Dazzle software.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this because you think it's compatible with iLife Review: Email from ADS tech support will tell you the clips are not compatible, with any of iLife software, try to find that in writing before you buy the product...
Rating: Summary: You Get What You Pay For Review: For the money, the Dazzle is not a bad purchase, depending on what your needs are. Although (as pointed out in another review) digital camcorders can work as analog-to-digital signal converters, that's not always the best solution, so you may need a standalone "bridge" or capture device for your analog footage. Considering that pro analog capture cards can cost upwards of several thousand dollars, no one should expect the Dazzle to be much more than than it is: an [inexpensive], amateur-level capture device, that more or less does what it claims. I've used a Dazzle for a year and a half, and it's been fine as a capture device. Burning back to VHS has been often problematic, sometimes getting audio and video artifacting. However, I burn most of my stuff to DVD or VCD, so that's not an issue much of the time. Don't slam the product before making a dollar-for-dollar comparison with other options, based on your needs. If it doesn't do what you want, don't get it, but for the price, it does a lot.
Rating: Summary: The best thing to happen to Video Editing since the TV!! Review: For years I had boxes of old home movies just sitting in my basement, but once I bought this, I was able to digitize and catalog them quickly and easily. Not only could I put all the old movies on there, but the DV port even enables me to transfer video from my Digital camera. This is a MUST have for anyone that either wants to get into digital videography, or already has.
Rating: Summary: Dazzle works fine on Mac OS X, no drivers needed Review: Great simple solution. Under Mac Os X there is no need for drivers or any installed software. The hardware is derectly used by any video software incuding iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Video capture works fine and quality is at a "prosumer" level and good for the price.
Rating: Summary: Does not support ANY capture software except what is bundled Review: I found it impossible to capture video with any software except the feature poor software that came with the device. Adobe Premiere? Can't capture. Adobe After Effects? Can't capture. Windows Video? Can't capture. NOTHING can capture from the device but that freebie software. I left tech support a question about this. It took FIVE WEEKS (yes - 5) to get an answer! If you are happy with the included software, you're all set. If you want the "professional" results Dazzle brags about, forget it.
Rating: Summary: Simple and effective Review: I have had this product for a year now and it is the best way to go from DV to analog and vice versa. Highly recommendable!
