Rating: Summary: Make sure you have the right hardware Review: Does not work with Windows XP and Intel Processors with Hyper-Threading.
Rating: Summary: ATI- 100703147 trash Review: had trouble with it right from the start. an error message when i rebooted.it stated (messenger has encoutered a problem and needs to close).went to ati for help and only got automated feed back from them that lead me no where.the software came with a system compatibility check.it told me Directx components and capture drivers were not installed.i tried restalling everything from the install disk and going to ATI for all the update's.i even went to microsoft and got Directx 9 and still the same problem.i gave in and called ATI by the way they are in Canada so you are going to pay long distance to another country.they told me that there are some incapability when using Windows XP PRO.i thought this to be funny because on the box it said works with XP.My system is set up with XP Pro Athlon XP 2100 a Gig of memory and a ATI 9600 vidieo card. i thought installing this card would be a snap be it became a night mare.this is the last ATI product that i will buy
Rating: Summary: not very good Review: I bought this becuase I thought that ATI made good products. I havnt had too much problems with this card, except that the sound is awful. It makes strange clicks when I change the channel. I have to turn down the volume as low as possible and still hear, because if I turn it up any louder, there would be too much distortion. It's very annoying.
Rating: Summary: Good remote. Bad software. No support. Review: I bought this mainly for the remote. That's what the 2 stars are for. It is an RF type that controls most of your PC functions, not just the capture card, from anywhere in the house. It works extremely well.
Unfortunately the same can not be said for the video capture card. The problem is the software. It will not load. I tried everything I could think of including swapping in a blank hard drive and loading nothing but Windows and the software. The install wizard starts and then just shuts down.
Without the software the card is useless. I went to the ATI website and downloaded a later version (MMC 9.3) it loads but generates an error message on start up telling me to update my Radeon drivers. I don't have a Radeon card (it's supposed to work with any graphics card) so I obviously can't do that.
ATI's FAQ section has an entry on exactly this problem. It says they are still researching it. I sent them two E-mails over the course of 6 days. No reply to either. I checked several forums and learned that I am definitely not the only one with this problem.
So, to summarize, the software has serious problems; ATI hasn't fixed them; ATI doesn't respond to requests for help; and they are still selling the card.
I took it back to the store.
Rating: Summary: Buggy software Review: I don't normally write reviews of products I have purchased but people need to know the experiences other people have with the ATI TV Wonder Pro Remote Control edition. I purchased this product after happily using the Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP until my pup ate the remote. I had left ATI after using there ATI TV WOnder VE and being happy with their buggy drivers and software and their none existant tech support. Apparently nothing has changed.
The test system is a custom built system:
MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB DDR 400mhz ram
Windowx XP Pro (Clean Install)
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
PNY GeForce4 4600Ti AGP
eVGA Geforce MX 4000 PCI
After installing the TV tuner I installed all the software as directed. The installation went smoothly and I had the TV tuner up and running. The TV tuner does work well if you want to watch TV in full screen, video desktop, or large display size but don't try to decrease the size. The picture is scrambled with any size less than the large setting, even inside their guide plus program.
Another problem with the TV tuner is the lack of multi-monitor support. As more and more users are moving to multi-monitor use you would think ATI would jump on the bandwagon. All most all the other TV tuner makers support multi-monitor use. The ATI TV Wonder crashes the system if you try to put it on a secondary monitor using their MMC software (TV tuner software). Strangely, the TV tuner will work on a secondary monitor if you use 3rd party software.
The remote that comes with the program worked for a bit but now will not control the TV functions, this is probably a software setup issue not sure, the manual is not very helpful.
I have attempted to contact ATI tech support about these issues and received no response. This does not suprise me as these same problems existed when I used the TV Wonder VE.
If all you want is a basic TV setup and don't want to use the TV while trying to multi-task or use multi-monitors the card works fine. Otherwise, you can get a TV tuner from another manufacturer that is more responsive to their customers.
Rating: Summary: I'm very satisfied with the ATI TV WONDER PRO Review: I have a Dell 8200 1.7 ghz with 256mbs of RAM and a Sony Trinitron CRT 17" monitor. My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition with all the updates completed as required. The card was quite easy to install on my last available PCI slot and I also had no problem installing the software which consists in the various capture drivers and the ATI multimedia center installation files. I installed it using a DVD-ROM drive. I then immediately went on the ATI website where I found the most recent drivers and updated software files with easy to follow instructions. They recommend that the Windows files Dxwebsetup.exe and WMencoder.exe be installed first and then MMC-8-1-0-0-DAO-MDAC.exe, tv_wonder_pro-WDM.exe and MMC-8-9-0-0-.exe in that order. After a couple of reboots requested by the wizard along the way everything was working fine. The color and the clarity even in full screen is remarkable. You'd almost swear you're looking at a digital TV. I didn't install the remote control feature yet as I do not plan to use it. The setup menu offers a large choice of video encoding and compression formats and if you want more you can create your own additional formats. So far I've recorded stuff mainly in AVI, MPEG-1 and WMV with very satisfactory results. When you push the record button you see your clip exactly as it will look like when you replay it. What you see is what you get. I haven't used the scheduled viewing feature and I don't plan on using that feature a whole lot either. I also connected my VRC on the SVideo connection with the supplied adaptor and the stereo sound is even better. You must then select composite instead of tuner on one of the menus. All in all, I'm quite pleased with my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Great Product Review: I have been using this product for just about a year, and have no complaints whatsoever. It works great. I use Windows XP and have 3 systems hooked into it. I record excellant quality video and audio with it. The price isnt so bad, as it is compatible with mostly any capturing software out there. I have used other capturing hardware, and havent had good luck, either it not being supported, or audio being out of synch.
Rating: Summary: Not working yet! Review: I installed the ATI TV Wonder Pro with Windows XP and have an ATI 9000 Pro AGP graphics card. The tv tuner worked for a few days and then all of a sudden stopped working, with the message "The TV player failed to initialize the video." I went so far as to re-install my whole operating system and still nothing. I called ATI, they told me this was a frequent problem with all of their TV products and offered several work-arounds, none of which has helped yet. Think twice before purchasing - I am now stuck with a $100 product that doesn't do anything for me.
Rating: Summary: Works very well Review: I picked this up yesterday at CompUsa. I have a Dell 8200 2.53p4, 512 meg ram, ATI Radeon 9200 256 mg video card, and 19" digital lcd monitor, Win XP home.
Installed tuner card into computer and installed software. Right at the end of software installation there was an error said "cannot install" and it rebooted. The computer came back up and much to my surpise everything worked perfectly. Using coaxial cable has a little noise on the screen, but I turned it to 16:9 and checked some kind of "signal cleanup" box, and the picture cleared up and it looks very similar to HDTV.
I've always had excellent luck with ATI products.
The PVR feature and the remote both work well. The video looks great in both full screen and small box, and the thruview feature is awesome! Now I can do development and watch "king of the Hill" at the same time.
If I have any problems I will post a new review. So far, I'd say 5 stars except for the installation snafus.
I've always had excellent experiences with all my ATI products.
Rating: Summary: No problems with install. Would only use with ATI products. Review: I purchase the ATI TV Wonder Pro without a remote control card and after reading some of the reviews wanted to clarify somethings.
First, I am a IT Professional, have built computer systems for the past 7 years, and have been very happy with ATI video cards for many years.
I purchase this card to replace an ATI All-in-Wonder Pro card that is still working, but does not fit in the AGP2.0 slot on the newer motherboards. My system is made up of:
ECS KT600-A
AMD Sempron 2400+ processor
256MB of RAM
160GB Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9200 Video Card
First of all, I did not install the MMC software that was included with the TV Wonder card (Although I did install the DVD decoder from the CD), nor did I use the Catalyst software included with the Radeon card.
I used the updated versions of these drivers and applications that where available on the ATI website. The installation for both went smoothly.
I had no problems with the TV tuner and was able to use the VCR feature and receive excellent picture quality from the recording. Those who have problems need to make sure that when they update the drivers and software, they remove the old drivers and software first or they will run into problems. Make sure that all necessary software is installed like DirectX 9 and/or .Net framework since this will cause problems as well.
This is an excellent card for the price, however I would not mix this card with any other video card that is not running the ATI Radeon chipset.
