Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware, the good the bad and the ugly Review: I'm using the N6 tuner with ordinary comcast cable service and a BenQ 6100 DLP projector. First the good news: the N6 produces an absolutely beautiful television image projected over a 10 foot wide area. The TV tuner works as promised. All the features listed for this function operate as indicated in the manual.
The bad news: the N6 pretty much screws up anything I've tried to hook up to it. It distorts the DVD image very badly, it made my laptop overheat & go off on internal overload, and forget about trying to run a VCR through it. The VCR image wiggles horizontally. Overall, I give it about an average score because of the great TV. Luckily, I can bypass the N6 and connect the DVD directly to the DLP projector. Unfortunately, I still can't watch my old VHS tapes on the DLP.I probably would have bought a less expensive item without as many features if I had known better.
Rating: Summary: Horrible video output at a not so friendly price! Review: Just got the nextvision 6 yesterday, and have, thus far, been quite impressed. Installation was easy, and I was watching a DVD w/in five minutes on an old 19in CRT monitor. Colors were rich and vivid, and action/panning was handled well, without noticable artifacts.I live in a small apartment and sold my TV thinking that I would instead purchase an LCD monitor w/ built in tuner to replace both TV and CRT monitor. After testing many monitors/LCD-TV's in stores (planar, sharp, philips, samsung, sony) I eventually decide on the samsung, because of features and price, and tested a 172MP and samsung LCDTV w/VGA input at home for a week. While both renderred striking still images, the response time of LCD screens fails utterly whenever there is any panning. In addition, neither screen provided suficient contrast. The image I am getting now is far superior for both DVDs (S video) as well as TV (rabbit ears). I cannot detect any loss of computer image quality from the VGA passthrough. The onscreen display is well laid oput and easy to operate. The remote is kind of small (a la Bose remotes), but I will be using my universal learning remote instead, so this is not a big deal. For the money, monitors with built-in tuners just do not cut it. LCD technology is not good enough for really enjoying movies if you are unable to fork out well over $$$$ for a premium set. So, as plan B, I purchased the nextvision 6 to use with my current monitor, and will upgrade to an LCD screen with a fast response time (below 20ms total) when the prices fall.

Rating: Summary: Worked right out of the box Review: Using a Motorola 6208 set-top box (set to 480p) and a Viewsonic VP191 monitor, the N6 worked right out of the box wit han image close to what I was getting previously with the DVI connection. The new firmware for the 6208 turned on HDCP which the VP191 could not interact with so I lost signal. I looked at a couple of Component to VGA converters, but settled on the N6 due to price and Viewsonic's tech support. The nice thing is with the source selector on the monitor I can switch between watching TV and playing on the computer with a button push. Just remember to go into the menu and set the proper resolution.
