Rating: Summary: A Pinnacle product that actually WORKS, amazing! Review: .... Now that DV is here, Pinnacle released a wave of DV capture cards. This is their cheapest one. Unlike pervious Pinnacle products installation was easy this time, it seems that they've rewritten their installer app. It won't go around searching the A: drive for some file that is on the CD itself. You'll need your Windows 98/ME install CD with you (if you own a Dell, you might not have one). You have to us Pinnacle's program for capture and output, but this time its a bit more stable. Capturing is easy, but output isn't. Studio may suddenly stop during output, and you may lose all of your information (and a TON of hard drive space from the fragmented files). The editing isn't that bad this time, its right up there with the other Crap video editors (Ulead Video Studio, Videowave). ....If you EVER buy a pinnacle product, make it this one. Then again I don't suggest buying a pinnacle product. Of the 3 i've used, only 1 has worked. 1 of 3 is not good. There are alternatives to Pinnacle! ....
Rating: Summary: It's no good for PAL DV Cameras Review: Before buying this DV card, I looked carefully to see if this card is only for NTSC systems. Surprisingly, this info is not available anywhere and after hooking up my PAL DV camera, I ralized it's not working ... total waste of money as I am outside the US and returning would cost as much as what I spent on the card.
Rating: Summary: StudioDV does not work with Windows 2000 - ignore the box Review: Despite the labelling on the outside of the box, StudioDV does not work with Windows 2000. I wound up reformatting and reinstalling W2K to recover. If you're a Windows 2000 user, check out IntroDV instead - it works great with Windows 2000.
Rating: Summary: Can be a nightmare to setup Review: First I had to add a second hard drive ( this is normal ) but I had to upgrade my bios since it did not recognize big drives. Then, setting up the card propelled me back in the 80's: interupt conflicts with the Video cards, shutting down the machine several times, moving the cards to different slots,etc... Still did not get it to work. By the time their tech support concluded that maybe I got a bad card, I past the 90 day waranty period and I am [upset].
Rating: Summary: Works like a charm with sony minidv trv27 Review: Had no problems installing and then editing movies with trv-27. Also burning VCDs is quick. The software they ship helps you cut a home movie real fast. I would recommed this. I gave it 4 stars since I expected the software to have some more features.
Rating: Summary: Killer price and good preferment. Review: Hi, I am a media technician in local high school in Silicon Valley. We have different kind of video editing base from linear to non-linear. On non-linear we have three different level video editing system. We got I-Movies, ReelTime, Studio DC+, and Studio DV. Each one of them help students the different need on their video project. As a media technician, I have to understand their need in order to help them complete the project. As a beginer, I tend to teach them on Studio DV because the students are easlier to understand what is the video edit about. I don't mean the other product no a good choice, but Studio DV give student all the need for their project. From capturing, editing, and make movies, the students tend to understand very fast. Also, I did ask the student how they rate this product. This is what they told me. 1. Friendly user interface 2. Allow them to see the visual on the timeline 3. Allow them to do as many trim until it looks the way they want. 4. Good title creater and overlay. 5. Good number of transition to add bettween the video and title. 6. Good sound effect and music selection if you don't have your own sound effect and music. 7. Allow them to choice different video format and help them to share their idea and story to the internet by using realplayer. 8. It is a good beginer video editing hardware and software. In conclusion as a media technician to teach a students or teachers who have no experience what is video editing, it very hard with limited time they have. However, the Studio DV allows me to show them many different ways to get their video project look outstand which is a good thing for both side. I will say the Studio DV is very good for all level user. Remember what you pay is what you get. Beside [it i inexpensive] to get the hardware and the software with this performent. I don't see it yet from the market. I hope this can help all the newcomer video editing.
Rating: Summary: Great Software Review: I bought this sw/hw combo about a month ago and just finished my third project. I think this is fantastic software for the price. My first project was a 55 min movie with over 250 scenes, with a transition between nearly every scene, lots of titles, scanned graphics, etc. The resulting movie was nearly perfect, a little jitter and a couple of artifacts in transitions, probably mostly due to disk drive performance. The software is very easy to use with almost every feature that I could want. The software did crash occasionally but, with the automatic auto-save, I never lost more than 30 seconds or so of work. Amazing software for the price!
Rating: Summary: Pinnacle support sucks Review: I do not own this particular product, but have had the missfortune to deal with Pinnacle support because of one of their other products running havoc with other programs in my computer. Programs that they admit should have nothing to do with the Pinnacle product in question and that do not interfere with my Pinnacle product. In my opinion Pinnacle support is a lazy bunch of people doing whatever they can to avoid working for their money. They will return your emails promptly but only to let you know they won't help you.
Rating: Summary: Didn't work for me Review: I feel like I was sold hopeware and not software. Even with the free upgrades over the years it doesn't work. I do consider myself an intermediate to advance computer user. In short buyer beware.
Rating: Summary: Good product for the price but watch out for some deficiency Review: I got this product and use it for more than a month now. I follow the instruction in the manual for installation and software setup to the letter. It works right after. There are some defeciencies users should be aware about: 1) video capture at full quality will stop every 18min or so. The limit is due to Windows but this software should be able to capture long video into multiple AVI files. It does not do that. that's bad, so you have to go back and hit capture every 20mins. 2) capture in preview quality does not have this problem BUT, your system should be powerful for the task because of the compression I guess. Mine is only 266Mhz, so I am forced to capture at full quality. 3) output to AVI files (full quality) again stops every 18mins or so. 4) output to MPEG file produces bad quality MPEG video. These shortcomings do not really affect the quality or limit the lenght of the video output back to tape. But they are very annoying. 5) Forget about calling tech support, I can never reach them. E-mail is OK though. I learned to overcome these shortcoming different ways. Just wonder why Pinnacle do not try to solve them with software upgrades. Anyway, I still recommend this product for Digital Camcorder owners who want to create/edit home videos.
