Summary: Absolutely Amazing!!!
Review: I have a Dell laptop and the sound that comes out of it is just horrid! So, after seeing this product on Tech TV I decided to try it out, and wow did it make a huge difference! Before this product, my sound was muffled and the highs weren't sharp and the lows were mushy. Now after simply plugging it in, I have superb, clear highs and deep, full bass. It even eliminated the hiss and buzz in the background! I can't express enough the value of this product! Buy it, you won't regret it!

Summary: GREAT PRODUCT - BUY IT
Review: I love this product. I use it to listen to my audio files on my laptop, when I travel or at home. It's terrific, was easy to set up, a snap to use and my audio sounds great. Love it. And it was very inexpensive.

Summary: Outstanding accessory for a laptop
Review: I purchased the HiFi-Link for connecting my laptop to the stereo in my family room while listening to the Rhapsody music service. I read good reviews here so I ordered one - I was not disappointed. I connected the USB cable, Windows XP installed the drivers and I was up in running in seconds.

Originally I was connecting from the headphone jack of my laptop to a stereo, and while the sound was adequate, it wasn't what I would consider 'CD Quality'. There was a very noticeable improvement after connecting up the HiFi link and listening to my first song. The sound quality is great and I had no issues with hum or noise - the device really works as advertised.

Bottom line, for the small investment you can't go wrong with the HiFi Link.

Summary: Dramatically improved my Laptop Sound Quality
Review: I purchased this external sound card because the built-in one on my laptop really sounded pretty poor - no high end and lots of distortion. The Xitel HiFi Link did the trick and improved the sound dramatically - no background "electronics" noise that you sometimes get with a built-in unit.

I used this with my hi-fi at home and the results were good, even with the extra long RCA cable supplied with the sound card.

The only negative I would say is that you have to set the volume levels of the sound application and sound control panel to the maximum level in order to get a line level signal out of this unit. Would be nice if it had a "line level" mode that would automatically give you a line level output and override the multiple volume controls you have in Windows. Maybe there is not enough juice to put out more signal, since this unit is powered by the computer USB connection.

Also, if you already have a pretty good sound card, you probably don't need this unit. Here's how you can decide - if a quality set of headphones already sounds good when plugged into your existing sound card, you might be hard pressed to tell the difference with this unit. I think most 3rd party desktops sound cards are pretty solid - this unit provides the best help to Laptops that obviously don't sound that good to start with.

Summary: Makes my Mac sing...
Review: I read the review in November's [...] and bought the HiFi-Link for my new iBook running OS X. The sound difference was amazing. I do get crisper, cleaner sound with great lows. I read Ken's review earlier on Amazon.com and all I can say is something must be wrong with his setup because all I did was plug it into my iBook and it was perfect (maybe he should call tech support). I have a great stereo and I can not tell the difference between CD's played on the stereo and my MP3's on the Mac.

Summary: Solved my noisy soundcard problem
Review: I received this product last night and installed it in about 5 minutes to my Windows 98 SE machine. The reason I bought it was to get rid of the bad hum I was getting out of my soundcard, from a Dell laptop. It installed easily, and works as advertised. I now have no hum and decent quality music through my NAD amplifier and B&W speakers. There is a *little* noise, if I [turn] up the volume, but it's easily 1/10th of the hum I was getting through the sound card. So, I rate the sound quality as decent, but not really audiophile quality. Overall, for [the money], I am pleased with the better sound I am getting.

Summary: Definitely worth the money
Review: I used the Hifi link to link my laptop with my Bose stereo, and boy does it sound good. It sounds just like a CD playing, its that good. It comes with a long cord (30 ft I think) so I had no problems lenthwise. A great product, I suggest it to anyone looking to enhance the sound of the MP3s from their computer.

Summary: True Plug and Play
Review: I was extremely impressed with this product. I own a MAC G4 and was a bit worried that the HIFi Link would not work with it. All I had to do was plug it in to my computer, and plug the other end into my speakers, change a couple of settings, and out came wonderful music to my ears. It took about 3 minutes to install. No worries!

Summary: Pretty cool!
Review: I was really getting tired of listening to the 1" speakers in my laptop. Putting headphones in was only marginally better, so I thought I'd get some cables and adapters and hook up my laptop to my stereo. Then I saw the HiFi-Link in my gold box...It was way cheaper than buying all the cables I thought I'd need. After reading all of the reviews, I purchased it and it arrived the next day. I think it took more time to take the device out of the box then it did to hook-up. The sound is awesome! A great solution for a great price--highly recommended.

Summary: Surprisingly Good
Review: I was wary of this product at first. It talks about the inferiority of the 1/8" headphone jack on my laptop while using an 1/8" headphone jack at one end of the device. It seemed like an expensive cord.

However, it has proven its worth. Sound quality is noticibly better with the USB than when i plug the 30 foot cord (included) into my headphone jack.

Very deep bass is missing, and highs are imperfect, but this is probably half due to the quality of the MP3 format. Any time you stretch 30 feet of cords around a room, you'll lose some quality, I'm just impressed by the sound I get for the money.

In short, its not a perfect system, but if you have a high quality stereo a fair distance away and a substantial MP3 collection, its one of your only (affordable) options.
