Summary: Easy setup combined with great signal strength
Review: First of all let me start by saying I have never written a review at this website. But after buying this router I felt compelled to sing it's praises.After receiving the box from the UPS it took all of 5 minutes to setup this device. 4 of those minutes were spent taking the device out of the box and reading the instructions. As far as I am concerned, setup is fool proof. Secondly, the signal strength is perfect. The router is in my basement. I'm writing this review from the second floor. The signal strength is well over 80%. My previously purchased Linksys never gave me more than 40% when I was on the same floor!! I'm using a Linksys PC-card adaptor by the way. This device is perfect!!!

Summary: The router works great except wireless part!
Review: ... The router looks very stylish and is well designed. I have no problem setting up my cable connection on this router after some messing around. The wired sharing parts works great, however I couldn't get my IBM Wireless Lan Card to work this router. No matter how I changed the setting, the wireless connection wouldn't work. Others have these problems too in some of previous review. So I decided to get another SMC Baaracade wireless router from Compusa since it's on sale. After all the same setup, I turn on my laptop, my msn messenger immediatly signed on with 11meg connection. So if you can get wireless part to work, this is sure a nice router.

Summary: Very satisfied except for an issue with running ftp server
Review: Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. It has been working uninterrupted for a week now. It doesn't get very warm either. Oh, yes, I like the style and color of the new version of the product I received too. The setup wasn't as easy as I had expected. I noticed two problems: one is that the quick start guide pretty much assumes you are doing the setup on a Windows 9x machine by instructing you to run "winipcfg" in configuring an IP address. Users that do setup from a Windows 2000 machine, be aware. The equivalent command is "ipconfig". The other problem is in "MAC Address Control" configuration. I wanted to assign a specific IP address to my desktop computer for port forwarding so that I can run that computer as a server. I filled in MAC address to IP address mapping in the table, but it didn't work. I later realized that I forgot to tick the "MAC address control enabled" box in the window. With due fairness, the manual does mention that we need to tick this box in order to use any feature in that window. But the UI can be more user-friendly. Why not grey out the other input fields in the window if this mater box isn't enabled? It's too easy to overlook. It took me about 45 minutes from opening the box to getting my laptop connected to the Internet wirelessly, with some time wasted on fixing the second problem mentioned above. It took me less than 10 minutes to get the printer server working with my Epson 880, though. The only shortcoming I've noticed in operation so far is with its ability to run an ftp server on my computer behind the box. My ftp server can't service ftp client from outside that uses passive mode due to the limitation of the NAT functionality on this box. Other brands may have this same problem too. Since not many people need to run their own ftp servers, I won't be surprised if this feature is more widely ignored. I rated this product 4 instead of 5 because this feature is important to me :-(

Review: The D-link 713-p came in defective and Dlink has had a very big problem with this unit.Think twice about buying this you've got a 50/50 chance of getting it to work.

Summary: Couldn't be easier!!!
Review: After reading the latest reviews, I was a little apprehensive about setting this up. It was the most painless installation I have ever done - I'm just a regular computer user.
I turned off my computer and cable modem(Comcast), hooked up the router to the cable modem and my computer to the router, turned on my computer and followed the IP instructions in the documentation (basically just did a release/renew all).Voila it worked!
Now for the cool part. I bought the DWL 120 usb adapter to share between my laptop and another desktop upstairs. Installed the files from the CD, plugged in the adaptor, restarted and I am now typing this from my laptop in another room. It was way too easy! I also did the install on the desktop upstairs and the reception is very good. Haven't tried any other features such as networking a printer or even sharing files,but I am now surfing from every room in my house.

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: Product seems to be OK but if you run into any trouble forget about it. D-link tech support is clueless. They can't speak English, and they have no knowledge of their own products much less basic networking. I bought a D-Link wireless USB NIC along with this product. Tech support could not even tell me what one of the two products was at fault. I'm returning both items and I'm getting a Linksys router and NIC. You get what you pay for, and I recommend you pay a little extra for another wireless brand.

Summary: Works As Promised
Review: After downloading the XP drivers for the printer server, the printer worked in both wired and wireless (DWL-120 USB) PCs, XP- and ME-based. The DMZ enabled feature did allow netmeeting and video-conferencing to go through. Speed is great and range is adequate for a 100' wide house. The tech reps were responsive and helpful. At 8:00 pm EST they were still there, contrary to some other reviews. Excellent product.

Summary: Printer Port is great
Review: Just got this router, and was up and running in less than 6 minutes. In this time, I connected 3 machines, one running Win2000 Pro, one running Win Me and one running XP Pro (with the wireless card). Also installed the printer port on all the 3 machines (there was no option to install for XP but I used the NT/2000 option and it worked out of the box). I was able to get rid of a number of printer cables and a switch box. The reasons for not giving 5 stars: cursory documentation. Unclear explanation of how to create the encryption keys for WEP.

Summary: Sleek Unit - Fast Wireless
Review: The unit is very easy to install via the web browser, accessing the router's own setup software (there is nothing to install for the router, except for the printer server!) My configuration is for 1 wired XP pc, and 3 wireless DWL-120 USB adapter-connected ME pc's. The wired setup was a breeze with internet connection 10 minutes into my install at a fast 1.6 Mbp/sec communication speed. However, the quick install guide does not have a section for XP machines (a shortcoming). The DWL-120 install was also very easy -- simply load the driver and then connect the USB plug. I got 50%-90% signal strength from 70' away. The USB communication speed was decidedly lower (220Kbp/sec). I wonder if this could be improved with a PCI card (DWL-500), but I prefer the portability of USB. The manuals were fine for ME-based pc's in both router and adapter. Now for the shortcoming -- the printer driver provided on the CDROM does not work for XP pc's. You have to go to the Dlink website to download that driver and read the FAQ for steps to install those drivers. My NEC-870 laser printer is still trying to work with the XP pc (work in progress). The ME-based pc, however loaded up the DI-713 drivers fine and printed to my laser sucessfully. The firewall also disabled my voice chat and netmeeting AV functionalities. This is a heavy price to pay for shared broadband pipeline. The tech rep told me to enable the DMV feature in the router setup advanced settings to bring down the firewall (I would still be protected by Norton's Internet Security fire wall, I hope). That gave me limited voice but no video (work in progress). Overall, I give it a 4, not 5 due to the above shortcomings. They should have XP drivers on the CDROMs by now, it need not be that tedious. That done, the DI-713/DWL-120 combo would be a fantastic setup.

Summary: Defective!
Review: I had been warned by fellow IT workers to stear clear of D-Link, but I really couldn't beat the deal that Amazon was offering for the unit. So I decided to give it a try, my bad! The unit was defective out of the box. It would drop the wired signal in one second intervals on all of the ports. I was finally able to get it to stay steady at 10T Full duplex, but it wouldn't work at any 100 speed. I tried multiple cables and setups, no luck. The wireless also wouldn't connect at all! I called their Tech Support and after talking with them and troubleshooting it even more ... no luck! They said it was defective, I am returning it to Amazon... NO MORE D-LINK FOR ME!
