Rating: Summary: A solid hub for SOHO use Review: I recently upgraded to this hub to service my home after being at 10mbps for quite some time. The Linksys hub is a good value for the money.Compared to the Netgear 24port hub, the Linksys switch fabric is rated at 2.7gbps. The Netgear is only rated at 1.2gbps. What this means is that the Linksys will be better equipped to handle all the devices talking at once at full speed, whereas the Netgear hub would be congested with roughly half of its devices communicating at any one time. The preamble regeneration provided by the Linksys is an important feature if you still have 10mbps devices at it decreases synch up time. You'll certainly notice a difference going to 100mbps from 10. A nice side benefit I realized was with the utilization of my cable modem. By having my cable modem router and my machines each on their own switch port, I gained almost a 25% increase in throughput! The Linksys hub is easy to install and setup, and includes a fiber expansion port if down the road you have a need to connect two hubs together via fiber optic cable. This unit is unmanaged, and doesn't include such advanced options such as spanning tree, but overall for home or small office use the unit will perform very well and require little maintenance. It includes rack mounts and is slim enough to mount on a small shelf.
