Summary: The Real Facts
Review: Ok Guys, heres the deal. I bought this product becouse I wanted to network my home computers to play Ages 2. One computer was a Dell, and the card installed just fine on the pre-built computer. No problems with the software or hardware. However, the other computer was custom built. With custom built computers, the card gives lots of problems. But they can be overcome. Just be ready to fiddle with the IRQ settings and be able to change some cards around in the PCI slots. I called tech support to help me get the network up after the cards installed cuz Netgear does not give you a manual. Tech was really helpful and I got the network up pretty fast. The cards have given me no other problems and work really great. For the price they go for, it's really a great deal compared to the Intel phone networks.

Summary: fragile little board
Review: One little power glitch, and the board is fried. Look for some other networking solution. I have 3 98se machines and an ME machine I attempted to hook together. I've gone through 10! of these boards trying to keep them online. If your digital clocks have ever flashed at you, don't buy this product. You'll be going through these boards like [crazy]. I've been using PC's since 1984, and I've never seen boards fry like this.

Summary: ICS function will not work
Review: The cards networked just fine, but internet connection sharing will not work. Netgear techsupport iss free, but useless. They told me to call microsoft. Documentation is very skimpy and the online info is not much better. I am going to try Wingate and if ICS still won't work, yank the cards!

Summary: Freezes my computer
Review: The drivers they provide for win2k are quite crash frequent. Just browsing the internet your computer will often crash. I have noticed less frequent lock ups using win 98 but they still hapen.

Summary: Could not get it to work
Review: The good news is (at least nights and weekends) I could get a live person for tech support without much waiting. The bad news is that I talked to 4 different people on 4 different calls and never got the thing to work at all.

I wasted many hours on this, and from the very first call they admitted the included software isn't very good and recommended I download something else.

(I was trying to connect a PC running Windows '95 with one running Windows ME.)

Summary: Good card, adequate software
Review: The hardware is great, the provided software could be better (except for the driver, which is fine). While browsing and email work fine, I like to be able to ping from DOS, and this port is blocked for some reason. If you have Windows 98 Second Edition, I would only install the driver, then set up file and print sharing manually and use ICS (which comes with Windows 95 Second Edition) to share your Internet connection. But I LOVE the cards themselves! Get a Linksys BEFSR41 Router and a Linksys HomeLink Broadband Bridge, and you won't need to use a PC at all in order to share your Internet connection!

Review: The net is starting to turn towards high bandwidth connections and this product lets you share those connections with older PC's at a low cost.

Summary: Netgear Equals Superb Service
Review: This holiday season I was a good santa and purchased numerous wireless networking products for my various family members. Sure it was partially a selfish act as I wanted to be able to easily connect when I went to visit, but for the most part it was just an act of giving. I purchased mainly G products and they varied from routers to USB adapters to PC Card adapters. I did also purchase a couple of B products for those in the family that already had some wireless networking products (yes, I know they are backwards compatible but I didn't want to take any chances).

Only two members of the family had installation problems (considering my family is very non-technical I was quite impressed) and those two people both had yet to upgrade to Windows XP SP2. The rest of the family members were up and running within minutes.

As for the couple of family members that did have problems, well they called me first (of course) and I told them to just run back through the installation procedure again. This solved the problem for Uncle Dennis but Grandma Joyce still couldn't get it to work properly. I reluctantly told her to call Netgear's technical support (hey the reviews on Amazon haven't been too pretty for their tech support). I however was quite pleased when an hour later I got an email from Grandma Joyce thanking me for the great gift. I called her back and she told me that after fiddling with the settings with the Netgear people she was up and running within 30 minutes.

Overall, I consider this the ultimate test of product quality and support and I would give Netgear two thumbs up.

I hope this review was helpful to you in putting your mind at ease regarding ease of setup and trust of technical support if needed.
