Summary: Awful tech support, VPN problems
Review: Although this device worked out of the box with my laptop, it didn't take long to run into issues with other machines. The desktop machine I was trying to get it working with was running Win98 and wasn't getting an IP address from the router. After an hour or two on the phone with a somewhat rude tech-support person, he didn't know how to solve the problem and decided it was "a Microsoft issue" and gave me an 800 number for them.Eventually we decided just to reformat the machine and throw XP on, which was good for other reasons, and got the router working. At that point we learned that the router wasn't compatible with Novell VPN software, even though they claim they support it. After a 4 hour conference call with both Dlink and Novell (and the Novell guy knew more about the router than the Dlink guy) we still had no solution. The final solution: I went out and picked up a Netgear wireless router. Everything worked great, including VPN, on all boxes, in 10 minutes.

Summary: Awesome Speeds and Range!
Review: I get probably around 5-6Mbps at best through out my home. In bad spots of the house I only get about 1-2Mbps, which is still good enough to surf the web just fine. There is a new press release by D-Link stating that these products will get free firmware upgrades to enhance the speeds to about 12Mbps real world. That's almost double what I get now! I am definately looking forward to this boost in speed and would recommend everyone to buy one of these now and some D-Link adapters because they will soon be even faster.

Summary: Range is exaggerated, slows connection
Review: Purchased with airplus card for speeds up to 22mbps, I am getting 0.6 mbps on the laptop with the card, and 1.2 mbps on the desktop unit. Doesn't work the way they say it does. Also, setup was difficult, had to download new drivers and firmware.

Summary: A Very Stable and Reliable Wireless Router at a Low Price
Review: Lots of features and the 22Mbps speeds on this router is what initially drew me to it. And what do you know, high speeds and a wide range of features is exactly what it gives me. I am more than pleased with this wireless router. I was able to keep my existing 3 PC wired network and have plenty of room to expand my network wirelessly without having to run wires every where. The range on this router alone covers my entire home and then some. I get good to great signal whether I am upstairs or downstairs with the router being downstairs. The features are great because I can shut off my kids' access to the Internet after 10pm on school nights without having to manually unplug them or tell them anything. So even when I am away or out for the night my kids wont be staying up late or getting into any trouble on the Internet. Very useful. I also have this currently working with my XBox to allow game play over the Internet, which is very entertaining.

Summary: Fantastic router for my Apple/Mac computer!
Review: I am not a technological genius, yet I set up this router, and installed an airport card in my iBook, both in under 30 minutes. This router has up to 256-bit encryption if used with a proprietary D-link card; Apple supports up to 128-bit encryption, which is what I use since I have the Apple airport card. I find 128-bit hex encryption quite satisfactory. I have this router between two walls, one foot off the floor, and it still gets excellent reception. I haven't had a bit of trouble with it and highly recommend it. I didn't need the manual to figure out how to set it up. Don't buy an expensive $$$ Airport base station from Apple; all you need is this router. It has every possible customizable configuration you could think of. Now I've got my G4 PowerMac with this wireless router enabling me to surf wirelessly on my iBook while sitting outside in my swing under the oak trees. Highly recommend!

Summary: Flawless since the latest firmware
Review: I first bought this about a week or 2 ago and the router seemed to reboot itself at random times which gave me about a minute or 2 of no connection and then it would reconnect. This was fairly annoying to say the least. Then it all changed for the better. I visited a message board to see if anyone else was having the same problem as mine and I did find some people that were in the same situation as myself. There was also an announcement about how the new firmware was out and how it fixed the rebooting issue. So I downloaded the new firmware from D-Link's web site and installed that. Now everything works great and I haven't had any new or existing problems come up. I am very pleased that they are able to fix some problems and add features just by letting you download a new version of the firmware. Impressive.

Summary: Macintosh help
Review: I just spent a weekend of frustration trying to get this product to work with my iBook and thought I would share what I learned with someone who might be as clueless as me.
It worked right out of the box with the airport card but I noticed it was sluggish at best and sometimes wouldn't work at all. The main thing that fixed it was downloading the newest firmware for it from D-Link's website (plug in a cable to do it of course).
Also for some reason the manual tells you to pick your Ethernet connection to use. I have no idea why though. I found it much better to choose the Airport option. A friend also suggested I turn off the Ethernet and Modem options because when they are on things are slower because it is searching using all 3.
(I could be wrong about these things - but they worked for me).
The tech support guy I talked to didn't know anything about macs so that didn't help me. Since I downloaded the firmware things have been working great. The range is good and pages load almost as fast as when the cable modem is directly plugged in.

Summary: Great speed....but...
Review: I truly like the speed of the wireless connection, I compared it the Lynksys and saw a dramatic increase in speed using the dlink. I also like the 256 bit WEP. A couple of major issues I am very uncomfortable with is not being able to turn of the SSID without having major connectivity problems on the wireless side. The other issue is having to reboot the router every day to reset the wireless connection and be able to connect to the internet even when I can ping the router from my laptop.

Summary: The Setup Wizard makes it easier than ever
Review: I actually didn't have to use the setup wizard to get this working. I had my PCs shut off, plugged everything in to the router, plugged in the router's power, booted everything up, rebooted my cable modem and I was connected to the Internet in about 5 minutes total. It was great. After that I used the setup wizard to setup the wireless portion and that didn't take long either. So far everything has been working great and I've had no problems.

Summary: Worst techinal support I ever had
Review: I was shocked to see so many good reviews. It is always wonderful to get a product that sets up and works flawlessly, but if you are in the unfortunate minority who, despite the simple setup and apparent ease of use, has some unknown glitch, be ready for some major frustrations and alot of wasted time. I am usually pretty good at solving computer problems. Everything worked initially and then suddenly kept losing signal . I literally spent HOURS waiting and talking to the worst customer support ever. At times I was correcting them. One solution they suggested many times was to unplug router each time this happened. They also twice told me they had to send my case to the special techs who NEVER once attempted to contact me. One tech's help ended up requiring me to go to Toshiba and I nearly had to restore my entire laptop. I returned the product and got a comparable Seimens and now I am among those whose experience was nothing but great. Comparing the two, when the D-Link did work, makes me all the happier I switched. In identical circumstances the Seimens is quicker and has a better range. Good luck to all you lucky ones--may you never have to call their support line!
