Summary: Works great! Easy setup for a total novice.
Review: I don't have anything to compare the 614+ to, but with my limited experience with it, I have no problems recommending it. I have no prior experience setting up this type of equipment. However, I had the router set up in 10 minutes on my notebook PC. It took only another 10-20 minutes to install & configure my second notebook PC with the 650+ wireless PC card. In less than 1/2 an hour, I was surfing away w/o cables! I live in an aptmt so don't have the luxury of testing the unit out from long distances or separate floors. However, I've had no problems in the 2 wks I've been using the unit. If you're looking for a simple way to network your home, I have no problems recommending the D-Link 614+ (or the D-Link 650+ PC card).

Summary: Excellent Router, Lousy documentation.
Review: I found router to be excellent in quality. The instructions contain just five steps, if you follow them your router will work. However, I found beyond that the instructions are lacking. I tried several times to enable encryption. Each time I found I could configure my laptop to still "connect" to the router, but even simple paths such as for the router itself, failed to resolve. I found in reading the other reviews, most people who have successfully setup encryption had to contact technical support. While I am satisified the functionality exists, why a skilled software developer such as myself who has implimented his own VPN systems should need to contact technical support for such a trivial operation as enabling encryption. Thus, I only rate this a 4 star product. Unfortunately, D-Link does not make a compatiable Mini-PCI card. Mini-PCI cards tend to work much better than PCMIA cards, because of the larger antenna. After carefully considering my options I decided to purchase the Toshiba Mini-PCI card, rather than a D-Link PCMIA card. I've yet to find a place in the four story house where my laptop fails to achieve the Mini-PCI cards' maximum rate of 11 Mbps. I see one user reported problems with multiple people reading e-mail at the same time. I have not managed to reproduce the problem. The D-Link contains a fairly standard firewall, allowing you your own personal intranet. I would expect the firewall would only present problems if you are trying to use multiple machines as servers for machines on the internet. Bill

Summary: Simply remarkable
Review: This product is "simply remarkable". I have been shopping for a wireless solution since quite some time. I even bought a SMC wireless router but faced a lot of problems in setting it up. The D-Link router worked without I having to do much. I was successfully able to secure my wireless and wired network without a hassle using 128 bit WEP and MAC address security.

Summary: Easy install and good customer service
Review: I had this DI-614+ installed in a very short time and got it to work without any problem. The only thing I will not be satisfied is the Ethernet cable which is included in the box and had a little problem to hook up this router.After I switched the one w/ my current Ethernet cable then fixed this problem. The overall feeling is still good.

Summary: Reliable and easy to set up
Review: I'd been running a home network on another company's wired router, with a broadband DSL connection. It was functional, but about once a week, I needed to reset the modem, router, and re-boot the computers to keep the system running. The old router was destroyed when we took a close lightning strike during a thunderstorm. I found the DI-614+ and the DWL-650 card on a great sale, so decided to go 802.11.b compatible wireless for only [a little] more than it would have been to go back to a wired network. Setup (including WEP) was a snap from any of the computers on the network using the html based setup utility, and the network has stayed up for weeks at a time without a reset. The only reason I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 is the somewhat chunky design. ...UPDATED on 1/30 - I just brought home an iBook w/ an Airport card. Once I figured out what Apple needed to ID the network, the router has been working flawlessly.

Summary: Works right out of the box, even for a tech novice
Review: I have had my D-Link DI-614+ set up for an hour now, and it works great. It is very easy to set up, as long as you read the directions. I read the instructions over a few times before beginning and followed them exactly, and was surfing from my backyard in lliterally 20 minutes. I put an Airport card in my ibook this afternoon, and it connected immediately. I researched and stressed over Mac-PC compatibility for a couple of weeks before making my purchases, but it was not an issue at all (I networked the iBook running OSX with a new Dell running Windows XP). The range is rediculously large - not only can I access the internet from each of the 4 corners of my .22/acre suburban tract (the house is ordinarly wood frame construction), but I walked across the street and 3 doors down with no service interruption before deciding it was too cold to test it further. If I didn't encrypt the signal, I figure I could provide internet access for 14 houses besides my own! It appears wireless has arrived for those of us like myself who only know the basics about computers.

Summary: Fast, reliable and slick.features
Review: Terrific price/performance compared to other
802.11b wireless routers. Got this with my 650+ card and both worked
great out of the box. The router is
real easy to set up (no CD needed) and the
wired LAN was ready to go in minutes. Wireless config was also fast and easy. Works
great even in a mix with 11Mbps 802.11b devices. The caveats:
Early firmware updates were sort of
glitchy. One disappointment was that
DLINK took out the ability to generate
passphrases on the router and didn't
document it anywhere. That's OK if
you don't mind rekeying these or
cutting and pasting from a file.
Fortunately these are easy to back out. Support response is not particularly
fast. One the other hand the latest updates
work well and I've been able to use
the router and adapter in combination
other older products from Linksys and
USRobotics with good results.

Summary: What an awesome wireless capable router!
Review: I was amazed at all the features this thing came with. Parental controls, MAC filtering, IP filtering, URL filtering, the usual NAT port forwarding, 256-bit WEP, blazing wireless speeds at about 8Mbps anywhere in my home, and more. I am definitely pleased with my D-Link DI-614+ and it's capabilities and over all performance. It has also been reliable enough to have made it through a couple small LAN parties I've held with a couple friends. We played all sorts of games online for hours on end and found no problems setting up the router to keep our computers safe and in working order for all games. I am also happy to report that the DWL-650+ and DI-614+ works good for online gaming on my laptop as well. I was able to play some counter strike with no increase in ping when compared to my wired PCs. I was very suprised and glad this didn't give me any problems in all of my situtations. I'd recommend this for gaming as you can see, and of course it has handled all of my normal actions like web surfing, playing java/shockwave based games, file sharing programs, and more. Another plus is that this router has great security and was rated stealth all on ports when I tested it online.

Summary: D-Link Airplus DI-614+
Review: I purchased the Dlink DI-614+ to network 2 computers to our cable modem. Installation was a little tricky but I was able to get tech help with a very short wait. I did have issues with a VPN, I was getting disconnected from the VPN about every 10 minutes. But this was resolved by downloading the latest firmware. This also was a little tricky, I didn't realize you download the firmware and just leave it on your desktop. Don't try to open it, it will load itself at about step 6. After that it has worked just great. I have it linked to a DWL-520+ wireless PCI adapter. I had problems with the adapter on the second computer, the mouse would hang up after about an hour or two of inactivity. This also was resolved by downloading the latest firmware for the DWL-520. The speed has been very good. No problems since the new firmware.

Summary: I must have been nice this year...
Review: because Santa brought me a wonderful present. I recently received a wireless network "kit" of sorts for christmas. It included this D-Link DI-614+ wireless router and a DWL-650+ wireless CardBus adapter. I was able to set this all up in about 30 minutes empowering me to be surfing the web on christmas morning on my newly found wireless freedom. The install was quite easy being that there are quick install guides to take you through everything step by step. The performance is great as well. I get an above 70% signal strength in almost everywhere in my home. It's a lower reception in the kitchen and I imagine it is because of the microwave or refrigerator. I still get a connection though so I am not too worried. I am very pleased with Santa this year and would recommend that everyone get one of these if you have a home network and a laptop. Going wireless almost seems like a necessity if you have a laptop. I mean being mobile is what a laptop is all about right? Of course I still keep my Ethernet connection by my docking station so when I need to charge up my battery I can be wired with the built in Ethernet port on my laptop.
