Summary: Great performance & Fast easy setup
Review: This was a great choice. The setup was so easy that I was up and running in about 10 mins. Of course, wiring the house took quite a while in addition to the 10 mins.

The printer works better now that it's connected to the routers printer port and best of all, all 3 of my PC's have acces to it. The printer port setup was simple...it took all of 60 seconds.
The built-in firewall is so good that my Zone Alarm software never gets to log in any attacks now that it's behind the SMC firewall.
I highly reccommend this for amatuer and pro.

Wireless systems are just not as solid and trouble free. In my opinion, it's worth the time and effort to wire-up. The cost is small, about [money] in materials.

Summary: Frustrating - but great when not dropped
Review: When this thing works it is wonderful. Great for networking and as a print server. Real easy to configure.

Unfortunately it drops my cable internet connection ALL THE TIME. Probably averages 1-2 times a day, I have to crawl under the desk unplug it and then plug it back in. It would not be so bad but some days it will do it several times in a row, or it will not reset as I unplug it repeatedly. This is a HUGE waste of time and super frustrating.

... I tried to save some money but the reliability ...

Summary: Great product and great support
Review: I had problems hooking it up in that my PC would not acquire the new IP information. Called customer support and in 15 min. was speaking to a nice girl in India who walked me through putting in the IP address, then it took off. I had problems with email, but that was the set up in outlook express and not the router. Have had it going for a week and it is working gread. Hooked up the second PC, with no problems. I was a little concerned due to some comments about bad customer support, but that was not my experience. Great product and great customer support.

Summary: Works good, has low price
Review: I use this router to connect via and external 56K modem. I can't get any other service where I live. As far as I know this is one of a very few cheap routers that allows you to do this. And it works.

I had a bit of a problem with some web pages not being availible, but SMC customer service advised me to upgrade the firmware (it was a snap) and every thing was fine.

When you buy this unit from Amazon.com you get a early version of the firmware so be prepared to upgrade it. It really isn't difficult, but you might want to download the upgrade BEFORE you trash your existing connection.

Summary: Great Router. Easy Install
Review: Great Router. Easy Install, mine came with a print server which is very useful!

I loved the simplicity of the control program. Just type the local IP address into the address bar of internet explorer and voila you can update the net work. I was surprised that for twenty bucks i could set up an entire home network from scratch in under 15 minutes. Great product. A definite BUY recommendation from me!!!

I just have 3 computers on it now, but apparently it is scalable to 250 some computers with tandem switches. All computers can print to the same printer attached to the print server. Worth five times the price I bought it for!

Summary: NO customer service
Review: I purchased this router because of the price, printer port and it's ability to packet filter. The unit stopped routing after two days. SMC's customer support is non-existent. You have to email them and they take five days to respond. And when they do respond, they paste things from the manual in the letter. Good thing I bought it from Amazon...they are replacing the unit.
Don't buy this if you can't fix it yourself.

Summary: Worked great ... for a while
Review: I purchased the SMC 7004ABR router in December and used it for 6 or 7 months until it decided it no longer wanted to hold the connection. The email to customer service resulted in long delays in replies, and responses that did not make sense. Its a shame since it is a good product when it works and the print server feature is nice. Hoping to get it to work, otherwise Linksys here I come.

Summary: I can't configured the SMC 7004ABR router.
Review: HI, i have the manuel for the MSC7004ABR router to be installed with Rogers hi speed internet, but can't seems to get it working.
I spend almost five hours trying to get the router to work but no luck. I will like in details how to configured this router with windows 2000 professional.
Note:I wouldn't be able to rate this product quite yet because i have no experience working with it.

Thank you.

Summary: Gone but not forgotten
Review: SMC won the battle, but lost the war. I bought this unit and used it happily for several months. Then, cable modem service provider interrupted service, and suddenly the SMC Barricade was never the same. I reset the unit; I tried the alternate modem connection option (and fried the external modem in the process). I went to the SMC site for help and found only a form for posting to tech support. Tech support did not respond for over a week. Meanwhile, neither did Amazon.com. I feel burned. So, I went to my local [store], picked up a Linksys product (live support 24x7). Fewer bells/whistles, but hopefully more reliable. I like the Barricade while it worked. But I won't go there again. P.S. - the Linksys seems faster (Model: BEFSR41 ver. 2 - Great instructions.)
