Summary: Keeps Hackers Out
Review: Installed the D-Link DI-604 with 2 computers, one running Windows 98 and the other one running Windows XP Pro. The installation took about 20 minutes. The firewall works well. I tested the firewall by using Shields Up Test ...I recieved the newer DI-604 case than is shown in amazon.com picture. I did update the firmware by downloading the binary file from D-Link's website. The web based interface for the configuration is nice and does it's job well. And I do like the ability to turn off or control the times of use for a network connection hooked up to the DI-604. One thing I do wish it did have was a log showing all traffic or website pages that were surfed to. The unit is a bit on the light weight size and it is physically kind of small. The DI-604's WAN network connection to my Cable modem is only a 10MBit connection, but it's more than enough considering the maximum the Cable modem can deliver is 1.5Mbit. The other 4 LAN connections are 10/100MB connections and work fine at 100MB. Overall, quite a nice package with good performance for the price.

Summary: Great Little Router at a Great Price
Review: I picked this router up at Best Buy on the "Open Box" table. After rebates I paid eleven bucks for it. I picked it up as a backup for my Netgear RP614. I did however plug it up and run it for a week to make sure it worked. It's a solid little router. I have 7 pc's hooked up to it and an Xbox all work fine with it. If I had to choose between the Netgear RP614 or the D-Link DI-604 I would base my decision on price since both routers are about equal.

Summary: one port broken
Review: Just bought one from [local store] for [$$] after rebates. The web setup is easy. I hooked it up with a Win98 PC and a WinXP notebook. Both works. The DHCP took a minute to obtain the ip address from the router. So, be patient the first time you hook it up. Port 4 worked for an hour and failed. I think it's the connector problem. I think there is a quality issue.

Summary: Easy Setup and works well with an exception (VPN)
Review: Been using this router at home for over 6 mos with no issues.

Using it to network three systems (xp/home, 98, 98se) and three different printers.

Recently got cable modem and tried accessing my VPN instead of dialing in!

Unfortunately, after a couple of days of troubleshooting, found out that D-Link DI-604 in most situations does NOT work with Nortel Extranet VPN...

...

The IT department at work also confirms this issue with the D-Link routers and looks like I will be buying another router... wireless maybe?!

Summary: a little box that make sharing easy again.
Review: I am no networking pro, but I do know my way around a computer enough to know that sharing files and being on a home LAN has a lot of advantages. Setting this all up was fairly easy thanks to the quick install guide and online documentation/FAQ at D-link's site. Before I went out and bought one of these I did a little research and saw what I had to do to get my PCs ready to share files and the Internet connection, plus I downloaded the latest firmware for this little router.

I didn't know this little box would be so small and so easy to use. It seems like they did a lot of work to make this as easy as they could for people like me. I am very glad that I was able to get this all done in one day let alone in only and hour. I just followed the instructions and had everything ready and it was pretty much step by step until everything was all set up.

We are now able to play games online with each other, or just within our little LAN, share files, stream MP3s from another computer on the network, and more.

Summary: easy setup and works well.
Review: My setup. I have 2 pcs using this router. My main purpose is sharing internet access but I also do some file sharing. Soon O will be signing up for xbox live so I will have my xbox connected throught router as well. The setup on this router was easy. I had a few questions (not problems) which I emailed d-link tech support about and they responded through email within a few hours. I had one issue where about 2 times in 1 day my connection dropped. I update the firmware to the latest version and have not had that problem since. The dlink di-604 is a good basic router and will certainly work for most users just wanting to setup a simple network to share internet access.

Summary: Simple setup. Works fine.
Review: Setup for this router was very simple. I was up and running in 10 minutes. I took the router out of the box, read the instructions, connected router and all cables, and ran the setup software and was up and running. I am using this router to share cable internet access with 2 computers and my Xbox. As long as it does that, which it does, then I am happy.

Summary: simple setup, it really couldn't be much easier
Review: this was very easy to get setup, i don't see where all the problems come from. maybe people just have funky internet connections to begin with. all i had to do was replace my 10Mbps hub with this router and turn off my ICS and use the setup wizard and everything worked. i had to do some rebooting of machines of course, but it wasn't long 'till i was up and running.

Summary: A waste of your money and time
Review: My D-Link DI-604 stopped working all of a sudden after
about 5 weeks or operation.
D-Link technical support has refused to replace it,
and wasting 2 hours of my time on the phone.
I have gotten rid of it now.

I would not recommend it to anyone.
Cheap maybe..

Summary: awesome
Review: From the time the techs set up my cable modem, to the time I was on the internet with 6 pcs, 5-10min. Plug and play folks. And over 700 K downloads. Of course all my pcs were networked prior to going cable, however it was a synch.
