Summary: Excellent Security
Review: This little gadget was recommended by a co-worker. My fiance and I went out and bought it that day. I must say, this is the best piece of equipment. It is a must have for anyone with a home network and is using cable or DSL internet connections. There is no need to get extra IP addresses. This little box serves as a firewall, a DHCP server and a router all in one. I just tested my level of security and this machine makes us completely invisible. It's almost like we don't exist to the outside world!! If you want a home network and are using cable or dsl, this is a must have.

Summary: Linksys Cable Router
Review: Very nice unit little unit. This might be the gizmo that make little Linksys famous. The only down side is that you better hope you know EXACTLY what you're doing when you set it up. Linksys' web site doesn't provide any more instructions than the manual tha comes with it, and you absolutely positively cannot get through to their tech support. I left a message for a tech to call me back. It's been a week, and I still haven't heard anything.

Summary: Beware of playing games like battle.net
Review: I was hoping this router would help me get two computers on to battle.net into the same game. It did not. Aside from that disapointment I found it very simple and easy to use. I am taking it back thoe because it will not handle two IP's which is what I need. It turns out that a second IP is only $5 on AT&T @home.

Summary: BEFSR41 works great. I love it.
Review: I love this thing! There's many benefits to this router's firewalling capabilities! My personal network is connected to an university campus network. Because the campus network is a bit of a hacker haven, my systems used to detect about 3 to 5 hacker probes/scans a week. The probes no longer reaches my machines. Another benefit: I can now confidently use Windows file-sharing in my personal network, and leave it turned on all the time. No more worrying about people snooping my data, or storing their files on my server. And another: Someone once printed test pages to my printer (attached to a NetGear Print Server), probably thinking my print server was his. That problem won't happen ever again! You could set up an old PC as your firewall; but then you'd have to load and configure the operating system and firewalling software, and you'd have a bulky/noisy PC running all the time. This router sits quietly behind my desk, takes up little space (about the size of a VHS tape), and consumes very little power. Trust me, it's worth the price. Think of this router like a solid door to your house: It is solid, is mostly unobtrusive, is easy to use, and keeps strangers from peering in and wandering in unannounced. I can't imagine a home without a door; and I can't imagine a network without a firewall of some kind.

Summary: Worked as advertised!!!!!
Review: Plugged it in, turned it on and it worked! Other than changing the password, I left all other settings at the defaults. Black Ice has been totally quiescent since the install last week-end rather than the ten to thirty hits we were getting per day. I'm sold on it.

Summary: Took 10 minutes
Review: I'm baffled that anyone could have trouble with this. It took me literally 10 minutes to set up. You just browse to the product on the network and click some buttons. This is an awesome product!

Review: I just received my router. After opening the box and leafing through the Quick Installation and User Guides, it took no more than 20 minutes to replace my existing hub with the router. It works great and provides the security I wanted.

Summary: Fast and Easy. IT Works Great
Review: I was skeptical since I have a dynamic IP DSL pacbell connection, host my own web site and register my DNS with a dynamic DNS service. But I followed the simple instructions and was able to get my server and two clients connected in less that one hour. It's much easier and better than using Windows ICS and the PC based PPoE connection software provided by pacbell, since the connection is now established through the router and is not affected when the host PC is shutdown.

Summary: Poor quality and performance
Review: I picked up one of these for my employer, for a small office. The performance is terrible, port forwarding is buggy at best, and there are definite firmware bugs. For the home user, it's not bad...but forget about small LANs. This is an Ethernet to Ethernet solution folks, it uses your external DSL modem (can we say router?) and it can make some aspects of your network interesting. A port scan reveals that netbios ports are open, but filtered...when they were not opened at all. questionable. I'll check out Netgear some time. Netmax's "Firewall in a Box" is a much nicer solution that a novice can install onto an older PC. Much more flexible than this piece of junk Linksys.

Review: This router is comparible to the netgear router, i have had no problems or issues with this..only gaming when you host you have to forward an IP, but i do agree the tech service sucks.....
