Summary: BUY BEWARE
Review: To all you folks who are raving about this product... wait a year. I loved it too until it died two weeks ago. I've called tech support four times (be prepared to spend your life on hold) and been told four times it would be replaced. So far no callbacks, no return emails and no new router. The tech support for this product is the worst I have ever experienced with any product. It's great if it works but beware if it doesn't. Factor this into your buying decision.

Summary: I wouldn't think twice again...
Review: ...I can't find one negative thing to say about this router. Setup was a snap, it has run ever since without a hitch. I wired in 3 computers, which thanks to the router now has a built in hard firewall. The most difficult part was the wiring, which I hadn't done before. I now have 3 computers on opposite ends of the house sharing at 10mps a high speed internet connection (I can run a video clip on all three computers at the same time, as well as a 100 mps home network (I can share or use all the cd roms, floppy drives, and hard drives from any one computer.) Now I see the price is down to below 100 bucks with free shipping? BUY IT!

Summary: It works! What is everybody talking about?
Review: I got the router setup last week because I got a new computer for myself and wanted to have cable internet on it. I read MANY amazon.com reviews...some bad...some good...it was very hard to make a decision. I finally decided to have somebody set it up for me. He set it up and so far it as worked without ANY problems except I think it has reduced my speed and the loading of the files on the other computer are slow. My brother hates it because it is hard to turn on the DMZ host option because you have to enable DNS and I don't know the information to enable it. Port forwarding doesn't work with all programs too. This is only because the firewall works very well. If you are looking for something to secure your network, you should get this product. It is easy to access the setup for the router but of course, DMZ hosting and port forwarding are under advanced so you should be advanced if you want to expose one of your computers to the internet without the firewall. I've had no problems other than that whatsoever. I don't know what this thing about "hanging" is about. My connection never "hangs." I'm only 14 but I know what I'm talking about - if this product has almost 500 reviews (with a 4 star average) why haven't you bought it yet?

It is great!

Summary: Simple home broadband access device that works!
Review: I'm not currently using this device, but only because I've "upgraded" to the BEFSR81, when the BEFSR41 power adapter pooped out (I'll get it replaced, but I couldn't stand to be down even one day). Great product. As others have mentioned, this device has "hung" occasionally, but I'm not sure whether that's the device or ISP's fault. Simple to configure (easier than the BeadleNet SOHO alternative). 255 NAT'ed DHCP clients. Works great. Good work, Linksys!

Summary: Excellent product!
Review: This is an excellent product. I have a DSL with a static IP, and was regularly bombarded by hackers and CodeRed2 type viruses. Prior to purchasing this router I was using ZoneAlarm software firewall from Zone Labs (a superb software firewall distributed free for personal use). ZoneAlarm was blocking hundreds of attacks every day. After I installed LinkSys 4-port router, ZoneAlarm didn't register even a single attack during past several days (just to prove that the hardware firewall works). Configuring the LinkSys router and my private network was extremely simple - just followed the step-by-step simple instructions provided in the user's manual. My previously configured VPN connecting my home PC to my workplace worked without any additional configuration. Prior to installing the router I was experiencing sporadic NetBIOS related problems terminating my connectivity to the Internet. My DSL provider was unable to solve the issue. After installing this router, the problem went away.

Summary: My home is now wired
Review: The best product I have invested in for my home computer to date! I have finally wired my home (3 rooms) and my kids are no longer fighting over the PC now that we have 3 workstations connected. I highly recommend this product for families.

Summary: Good device, but check your ISP first
Review: This hub/router was a snap to setup and get working, both with my WinME box and via Linux (Debian 2.2). I had the boxes DHCP'd and talking to each other in a snap. That's the good news.

The bad news, which is NOT Linksys' fault, but rather my own, is that my ISP's DSL supports PPPoA, rather than the PPPoE which the Linksys router supports. So nowadays, both my boxes access my DSL connection via my Linux box, courtesy of Linux's IP-Masq. Which means I could have gotten by with a simple hub and not needed the router/firewall side of this Linksys. Oh well, live and learn: get your ISP's recommend for a router/firewall.
