Summary: In defense of the BEFSR41
Review: I bought my router about 6 months ago. I installed it in minutes and it's worked flawlessly since then. I have my house wired with four RJ45 ports strategically located in different rooms, all connected to the ports of the Linksys. Two are in use and the other two can be used by my laptop. I have a couple more computers that are connected directly to the Linksys in my server room. The worst thing that's happened is that I had to reset it once when the power to my house went out. My only complaint is that it cannot handle an inbound VPN (I'd like to set up an FTP or web server on one of my machines just to store personal information that I could access from different locations). But that's a relatively small issue. If you ask me, the BEFSR41 is good, cheap and fast.

Summary: Easy Setup great router
Review: This router is excellent. I've had a Lnksys for 5 months now and I haven't even thought twice about it since I set it up. I use it with RoadRunner and I've had no problems with it. Great for a first time home networker or an expert.

Summary: Painless Firewall
Review: I dumped my hub and installed this router/switch. It's fast
and does the work of two slow software drivers for Windows - PPPoE and a software firewall (which are flakey at best).
I had to call LinkSys to find out to desintall PPPoE,DHCP,
but was up and running right away and haven't had a problem
since install (3 months) !!! I've had very good luck with LinkSys hardware in general.

Summary: Dropped Connection / Required Reboot
Review: It worked great out of the box until.... After a while the router started dropping the connection to my DSL provider and failing to restart. The only way to bring it back on-line was to unplug the power and restart it. Sometimes it didn't stay up for more than a minute. Tech support did not respond to my e-mail at first, and then were useless. The warrantee is 1 year - BEWARE.

Summary: Works Great, once you get it set up.
Review: This unit works well. It took me quite a while to set it up on a Macintosh, and included a lot of guessing, since the instructions are not at all Mac friendly. Once up and running, however, it works like a charm. Mac instructions would have been helpful. In a nation that's obsessed with diversity, there seems scant attention paid to diversity in computing.

Summary: Easy to setup and bargain for the price
Review: I've had the Linksys router for about four months now and I'm still ecstatic with its performance. I consider myself a moderate computer user and set-up was a breeze. I was up and running in about 15 minutes (if you don't include the time it took to go outside and buy a Cat5 ethernet cable, because this router doesn't include one), and I thought the documentation was satisfactory. I've hooked this router up so that two of my home computers can share a cable modem connection, and I was more than pleased with the connection rates. I didn't lose any of the upload/download bandwidth, and I can download from both computers simultaneously at the maximum download rate. Definitely a plus. Many other reviewers are complaining of frequent lock-ups with the router, but I haven't had such an experience. One of my Win2000 computers has started to freeze considerably at boot-up after connecting with the router, but the other one still works fine so I can't say for sure if the router is the culprit. The added firewall feature is the greatest perk, I think. I've been using ZoneAlarm Pro before and after installing this router and ever since, I have not received a single hacker alert (I was getting frequent alerts before). I still keep ZoneAlarm on, but I think the router is holding up its end very nicely. As a final note, a couple of caveats. One, no ethernet cables are included, which was disappointing. You'll have to go out and buy your own. Secondly, the router itself doesn't look as great as the picture on the box. One you see it for yourself, you'll know what I mean. It's extremely light and seemingly made of cheap plastic. Not that it's flimsy, but I definitely wouldn't want to drop it even once. But the price is a steal. Compared to buying a second IP address and getting a retail fireall software package, this router definitely is the better deal.

Summary: Plug and Play simplicity
Review: I'm a network administrator and was looking for a product that I could recommend to my end-users who are adding broadband to their homes so that they can utilize our corporate VPN. This product is the ticket. Plug and Play simplicty. Thing works perfectly out of the box and with a very simple configuration allows VPN traffic to flow. Only let-down is that it only allows one VPN tunnel through the firewall at a time. But in most cases that's not a big problem. I love this thing and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Summary: For those that knows how to follow INSTRUCTIONS.
Review: The hardware is very easy to setup, the upgrade of the firmware is just as easy. The installation was a walk, and very easy. If the steps are done in a logical order, the result will be a positive one. I think the manufacturer did a good job with this product. I don't understand how some individuals rated bellow 5. I?m using this hardware with hubs, switches, printer server, from different manufacturers and I found it to be easy in operation and installations.

Summary: Terrible product.
Review: I have had this thing since it first appeared on the market and have applied all of its firmware upgrades. It is horrible. When playing multiplayer games it often locks up, requiring it to be unplugged before any networking can take place again, it corrupts data within the LAN...the list goes on. LinkSys tech support is also atrocious, placing me on hold for over an hour several times and refusing to respond to e-mails. DO NOT BUY THIS
