Summary: PC Support Only
Review: The only thing wrong with this product, indeed anything this company makes, is that they do not provide any support for Macs. I fretted over the 70+ page instruction book and the 20 step "quick start" before calling the 24/7 tech support line, only to be told no help for me and my G4 PowerBook. However, a sales guy gave me a URL for a Mac site that did have some help, or so I assume as I have not actually gone to look. What I did, way too late at night, and with fingers crossed, was hook up the cable modem, an iMac, a cheap PC running Win98 that belongs to a buddy, and my PowerBook via Airport. Working from the Airport setup utility in OS X, instead of the Wintel box, the whole network came up in a blink. Indeed, all I had to enter was my password from a previous Airport setup in OS 9! Apple's built in code did the rest. 20 step "quick start" my patooty!!! So, if you have Airport, buy this product; if not you are on your own!

Summary: Sweetest little contraption
Review: Just installed the router to a new broadband connection. My aim was to share the broadband connection with 2 machines, a desktop and a laptop. Both systems run W2k. The process was even better than I expected. The directions are clear and concise; it took an hour with the ISP to get the one pc to communicate with the network (without the router) then it took 10 minutes to connect the router, configure the mac address of the router to match the NIC, connect both machines, ping the ISP and that was it. Both machines connected without a single hitch, both sailing at 100mbps. If you have a broadband/dsl connection, get a router - whether you plan to share the connection or not. It's cost is a very small price to pay for the firewall security built in. Highly recommended, to geeks and non-geeks alike.

Summary: you wanna share your broadband? go for it.
Review: easy to manage, relatively reliable. needs a reset now and then, but basically works great. seems like my dsl sped up since i got it. go ahead and get it, its not so expensive.

Summary: Still haven't read the manual
Review: Networked two PCs in 10 minutes, shared a printer and all files between them, and even used VNC to remotely view desktops. If this little gadget continues to perform as it is now, I'll consider it money well spent. If you need to share a DSL or cable connection, this is the only way to go.

Summary: Windoze and Mac - It's too easy
Review: Okay, I've networked the following: 1 Windows 98 machine, 2 Windows 2000, and one Mac OS (my personal favorite) in all of 10 minutes with this hardware on an optimum online cable modem broadband connection.

I read the documentation ahead of time but even without doing so, it would be very simple to set this up. Basically leaving the windows machines non descript setup by default and putting in a couple of things in the mac and alligning through the router's address in a browser.

Flawless. And it keeps on ticking with no problems.

(I apologize to those with individual broadband issues with their local IP.)

You really can't go wrong with this; give it a try and enjoy!

Summary: worst technical service encountered
Review: I'm no computer expert but I can get by most stuff on my own. With Linksys, I had problem setting it up and I thought I can call them for advice. The technical support was a sham. The guy didn't want to stay on the phone for more than 5 minutes because he had to manage his resources for other users! My call to him was placed at 7 AM eastern standard time and he even admitted that no one was in the queue..but he just didn't want to stay on the phone. Even with any changes he suggested I had to reboot the computer at least once to accept the changes, which takes around 5 minutes and he refused to wait to see if my router was working for my computer. Perhaps Linksys is a good product, but I will never know because I am going to return it to voice my displeasure with their technical support.

Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Review: Truly an out of the box network, I had this up & running in under 5 minutes (I already had the Cat 5 wired up in my house)...

I recommend to anyone who has a high speed connection dsl or cable & wants to have multiple computers sharing the connection. We have 3 here, I've only had to reset this once in 9 months (a matter of unplugging it & plugging it back in)

WOW!!

Summary: Set it and forget it
Review: I had some problems setting up the router initially, but the tech support was very helpful and had it running within 5 minutes.

If you have multiple computers and DSL or Cable modem, this will make your Internet life so much easier. The built-in firewall seems to be pretty tough, but it might be worthwhile to invest in a software firewall as well. You're PC would be virtually impenetrable afterwards.

After I finished setting it up, I literally was able to "forget" it. You probably won't ever need to tweak it anymore afterwards.

I sold mine and bought the wireless version, which I recommend even more if you can afford it (plus a wireless LAN card). Few things are more gratifying than surfing the web wirelessly.

Summary: Works like a charm, good documentation
Review: This router is EASY to set up, comes with very good documentation and works very well. No experience necessary. As long as you can read and have some basic computer skills you should have your network up in no time at all. The main competition is the Netgear router, which is actually easier to set up but I found the Netgear documentation a bit meager. IF something goes wrong with the Netgear setup you'll be at the mercy of support, where as Linksys does enough with the manual to see that you don't get stuck.
