Summary: This Router Works Great!
Review: The quickstart pamphlet that comes with the Linksys router is absolutely clear. The manual is also very thorough. I have Windows XP and had to look around for the windows because the manual did not cover Windows XP.
There is no need to install *any* software. Yes, I said *any* software. That means no drivers or special log-on software. Everything that needs to be setup is based through browser software. The quickstart pamphlet gives a private IP address (...) that one goes to setup his/her settings. Everything is self-explanatory. But, just in case, there are definitions for every setting in the manual.
The only real problem that I had was how I had to log on. Ameritech, my Internet Service Provider, makes me log on through a software title called Enternet 300. I had to uninstall this software for the router to work. This software had some PPPOE settings that caused the router from working. I didn't know to uninstall Enternet 300 until I searched on Linksys's web site under "support". I believe that was the only thing that was not in the manual at the time. This is the only reason why I chose to give this product a four-star instead of a five-star.
Another good feature about this router is the hub feature. Once all of the computers are connected to the Internet and operational, it is very easy to set up a network of computers. This product is not only a router, it is a hub also (with a 10/100 switch.)
I recommend this product to everyone and that if you have a little bit of money - this product is a bang for the buck(thanks to Amazon.com) - go ahead and buy it. YOU WON'T BE DISSATISFIED!

Summary: Awesome!
Review: This little thing is wonderful! That one person wasn't kidding when he said it took longer to take it out of the box than it did to set it up. Plug your computers into it, attach it to your cable/dsl modem, plug it into the wall, then reset your modem. That's really all there is!

There is also a web-based setup which makes it extremely easy to set it up if you have to. It also includes an advanced setup with a plethora of options, including ip filtering, port filtering, etc. But of course you don't have to know anything about these to get it working.

I was offline for about a total of forty seconds. : - )

Definitely worth the price! ...

Summary: No thinking necessary
Review: I have Optimum Online cable modem service... Sharing the connection through software was tedious and killing bandwidth. This router simplified my problems, plus the "DMZ" feature allows me to expose a host to the outside world. I really like the 100BaseT switch as well, 10Mbps is too slow now. If you can afford a wireless solution go for it, otherwise for those of us with economic consideration this router's a good choice.

Summary: Fantastic Product!!!!
Review: (...) I have never set up a network in all my life. Today I did: Three completely different Computers: Desktop AMD 1.4GHz - Windows XP, Desktop Pentium II 200 MHZ - Windows 98, Laptop Pentium III 650 MHz - Windows 98, Cable modem....Piece of cake. The Linksys does everything practically on its own.
This thing works like a charm. Documentation is great, Speed is great....my home network rocks! Highly recommend this router!!!!!

Summary: Can we talk about slowing the DSL down?
Review: This product sucks. We have a superfast DSL WAN that works awesome. However, when the Linksys router gets plugged in (routing three computers) our BW drops from 272.8 kbps to a range of 22.5 - 40.0. We checked it on (an internet site's) BW tester.
Even if all three of us were up and running - we still can't multiple 40 x3 and get 272.2. We lost 150kbps using it!

Review: If you're here, you know what this is, and what it should do.

It does it. So there you have it.

I was going to use this thing as a stopgap, and eventually set my linux box up as a dhcp server, but this thing's so simple, and since it allows you to route requests on a by-port or global basis to particular 192.168 addresses, I haven't bothered. It's great, cheap, and while i think that i might have gotten the wireless version had i had a bit more loot, it's been very good to me.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This has to be the easiest piece of hardware I ever set up. Out of the box, plug it in, plug your cables in and you're running. Less than 10 minutes and I was sharing my internet connection on two computers. Wouldn't have even taken that long if I didn't go through the motions of configuration to make sure everything was set up correctly.

For people who know what they are doing, geekwise, it makes life easy. For people who know nothing or little, it's even simpler.

Summary: Simple to set up, crossing my fingers....
Review: I have Comcast@Home cable internet service and this was easy to set up. I have a main PC upstairs, and a Sony Laptop that my husband uses. All I had to do was get another IP number from Comcast as well as the PPPoe numbers, etc. and input it into the laptop and I was up and running, and both can be on line at the same time now. It was so simple I didn't even realize I was up and running! Hooking up the cables was a breeze, and I am not, to say the least, experienced AT ALL in networking! Based on a lot of the other reviews, I'm hoping nothing goes wrong. I just set this up today and couldn't be happier! Price was great too and I made sure I had two Cat5 cables before I even opened the box. One is 50' and the other is 100' so that we can go everywhere with the laptop now. Probably overkill, but I wanted to make sure. It would have been better to have gotten the 100' and then just a small 3' to connect the PC to the router with. Amazon's price for the snagless ones are cheaper than anywhere else. Go for it, if this busy housewife/mother could do this, anyone can!
