Summary: Great product! Worth much more than it's price
Review: I've had the Linksys 4-port router for 6 months now and haven't had a hitch with it yet. Easy to setup, even for novices - and when you need details or help the tech support is friendly and extremely helpful (but you may have to wait a bit).

Summary: This is the way to go
Review: Why pay an extra 5 or 10 dollars to get extra IP's or additional names for your computers when this router will do it all. combines with an access point it gets even better with wireless access. You can use it as a simple gateway or as a router with simple onscreen configurations. Ports can also have different networks in router mode! I have been using this for about a year now and it works great.

Summary: Easy set up and administration
Review: Yes, it does have great looks. However, what I found more attractive was how easy it was to setup right out of the box. Even though I was connecting a single boot Windows XP and a dual-boot Win 2000/Red Hat 7.2 machine, setup was no problem.

Administering the unit is as easy as opening up a browser and typing in the unit's IP address. What you'll like in this feature is that while it allows expert users to configure advanced settings, newbies will not have any problem setting up the router for regular day-to-day operations including not only surfing but sharing files, printers etc. I'm actually thinking of extending this with the Wireless version of this router. That way, I can have wireless internet access on a laptop throughout my house!

Since we are going into the age of multiple computers in every house with a broadband connection, this is a must have.

Summary: Out of the box winner
Review: I dropped this in the home office for splitting cable modem 100Mbps Ethernet between Mac and PC (win98, win2k, winXP). Without a hitch after the short setup procedure, I had the house networked and humming. Great speed and nearly idiot-proof installation. The only worry is that it does get a bit warm, especially if you stack another router or hub on top. The only other minor complaint is that the AC adapter plug is rather easy to yank out - especially if you are moving cables frequently. Other than that, it's worth every little, insignificant cent versus unplugging, reacquiring, etc. to the Internet.

Summary: Don't buy this router with Qwest DSL
Review: Although I think this product was pretty good, I found out the hard way that it doesn't work well with the Cisco 678 DSL modem provided by Qwest DSL. Since the Cisco 678 is actually a router, it doesn't like having another router on the LAN. I tried using the PPPoE option on the Linksys to connect to Qwest and not use the Cisco at all, but that didn't work. A simple solution is to get the Linksys 5-port hub or switch and connect that to the Cisco router. This is a simple plug-n-play solution that works great.

Summary: Not a bad router...
Review: Installation was basically quick and relatively painless. I do have an existing LAN that I needed to integrate with the unit and that has posed some difficulties, but then again, this product I don't believe is really marketed to that end and may be appropriate for just hooking up a couple of stations to share a connection and not for network integration.

One thing that I CAUTION everyone in is the products supposed ablity to be "flash" upgraded. DO NOT FLASH THIS PRODUCT! ! ! ! ! I have gone through 2 of these units, following the makers explicit instructions and both times the flash upgrade has rendered the product unusable and they had to be sent back for replacement...

Summary: Great Hardware... Mediocre Manual
Review: Nice gear. The manual, however, could use additional detail, considering that this is a complex product with connectivity considerations aplenty.

Summary: Beware of problems with Outlook email!
Review: I purchased this product after reading a lot of Amazon review and thought this was going to be easy to set up and troubleshoot. Well to Linksys's credit I had no problems hooking the router to my DSL model and my 2 computers (1 desktop and 1 laptop). Even my internet connection works great and setting up everything took very little time. But I've been having nothing but PROBLEMS with email!. There is a whole lot of trouble getting and sending mail. Calling Linksys and getting someone to help you is literally impossible. Even after they call you back after 4 days (yes, 4 days) their tech support agents are quite incompetent.

Most DSL providers do not support a DSL router, so you are stuck. I am still trying to fix my email and its over a month since I bought this product. I would suggest that you check out other products (esp. how good their tech. support is) before purchasing Linksys.

Summary: Easy setup-2 laptops and a desktop-3 different OS
Review: I set this up on three PCs, a WinME laptop, a WinNT 4 laptop, and a Win95 desktop in about 20 minutes. Of course, I actually read the instructions before starting, so add in an extra 10 minutes. Everything went as described and now I can share the printer on the kid's desktop in the basement with the 2 laptops upstairs. Very slick!

Summary: Easy to Setup but highly unstable
Review: Yes, it is easy to setup and you can have multiple machines sharing the same DSL or cable IP within 20 minutes. This would probably be a great router or gateway for the beginner. However, the troubleshooting and resolution of router failure is quite difficult. Expect to have intermittent problems with this router. It will suddenly lock up (although stating it's still connected to your modem) and the only resolution is to reboot the router. Furthermore, there aren't any logs that will help you determine why it failed. Although the whole router interface is web based, which I really like, I'm disappointed at the lack of features and especially the lack of logging on the incoming data.

So far, I'm on my second router. I just came home one day and "poof" it was dead. After talking to tech support for some time, I didn't get the impression that Linksys has the upmost confidance in their product. However, Linksys didn't hesitate to replace it.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a router that is easy to setup and will get your computers on the internet quickly, this is the product for you. But if you're looking for more and you're looking for stability, I would probably go with Netgear.
