Summary: Expensive but wotrth it.
Review: Ibought this router for my wireless setup at home. It turned out to be a fairly good product. Why four stars? The setup through my cable (@home) was a nightmare. Lot of different things to change and configure.(too many to name) I consider myself very computer literate in software/hardware, and this was a nightmare.

That being said the support at linksys was very good. Very easy to work with and friendly.

Now that my system is up and running with wireless support it was all worth the hassel. But the setup is not for the faint of heart. May be better off getting the wireless adapter with the router built in.

Summary: Great Router
Review: This little router is cheap, plug and play, and a time saver. If you are interested in providing an inexpesnsive broadband internet connection to multiple computers, then this is the way to go.

I plugged the router into the power supply, plugged the ethernet from my cable modem into the router, and it worked from that day forward. The router does provide a firewall feature to help block intrusions and security breaches. It is not the greatest firewall I have ever seen, but it does do a good job against common infiltration tactics.

If you are interested in a low cost, mid-range solution, then this is the product you want. You need not know anything about Local Area Networks or the internet to use this device. Just plug it in.

Summary: Great Product - Abyssmal Tech Support
Review: Product Rating: 5
Support Rating: 1 (just because there isn't a lower one)

Buying a linksys product is like purchasing something from Fry's Electronics... Find what you want, and pray it doesn't fail. If it does, just burn it and buy something else because dealing with support is not worth the headache.

The hardware is wonderful by the way.

Summary: A Non-Techie sets up a Network
Review: I was able to set up a home network using this product. I had no previous experience working on networks. My computers now share internet access, a printer, and files with one another.

To Network computers with this product each computer needs an ethernet card. If you already have one on your computer, the process is as easy as plugging in a phone. If you don't, you need to add one to each of your computers. The easiest way to do that is through a PCMCIA card--one of those credit card sized things that go into the side of many laptops. I bought one of these for my laptop and just slid it in.

My desktop was harder. I had to put in an internal ethernet card, which means opening up the box, inserting a card and putting it all back together. I then plugged both machines into the Linksys box and they were hooked together.

The next step was to get them to work together. I ran the windows network setup wizard on my computer and it told me exactly what to do. That was fairly easy. Previously I tried to use the software that came with this item, and it did not work out very well. I recommend just using the software that comes with windows.

Summary: Linksys products are flaky
Review: I bought a Linksys 10mbs hub years ago and worked perfectly till I got a lightning strike. I've since tried the Linksys 10/100mbs hubs and routers and spent DAYS trying to get them to work. I've tried 3COM cards, SMC cards, cabling, upgraded all of my OS's and brought down the network speed to 10mbs. Nothing can get the things reliable. They look nice but don't work.

Summary: An ok produce for home use
Review: I wouldn't suggest this for business use though. First off Linksys's customer support (is terrible). I've had this for a year now and pressing the reset button has become customary. This is real irritating especially when you have to keep on re-configuring your router (passwords, port forwading, dmz hosting, etc) From reading all these reviews, they seriously overrate this item. But then again I figure that most of this are coming from home users. If a business owner though, reliabilty is an issue with this router. (...) This is a good price for a router though, and it's good for beginners in home networking category.

Summary: Excellent product.
Review: I have been using a FreeBSD server to do the same thing for about a year, and this product has everything I could ever want for a fraction of the cost. One unexpected feature is a configurable MAC address.

Summary: Eliminates computer battles!
Review: Excellant product to allow simultaneous internet access for your home network with only 1 IP address. Synchronizing tasks with a laptop running Win95 or better is a cinch despite different OS on your systems. Linksys provides excellant and timely customer service in setup and maitenance.
