Summary: Works great, watch out for flash upgrades!
Review: This product works beautifully. However...watch out for flash upgrades - I made my router completely inoperable this way. I also had difficulty with home networking between machines linked to the router (using it as DHCP server)...but I suspect a windows problem and nothing wrong with the router.

Summary: Look no further for a router
Review: The only thing I don't like about this product is the new low price. I paid almost twice the 80 dollar price about a year ago. Set up was relatively easy but read the directions first. Take your time, don't get ahead of yourself. I called tech support once. They were adequate but not a benchmark. Once set up this product is wonderfully transparent and has good firmware support. The firmware now supports a direct interface with Zone Alarm Pro for added security. I have two pc's connected all the time and occasionally connect a third for trouble shooting. An iMac I connected recently was able to find it's way out after connecting it to the hub - no set up issues at all. This product is a must have for anyone who wants to network.

Summary: Excellent, simple solution to DSL sharing
Review: I've been sharing a DSL connection between 2 computers for over two years using WinProxy, and I've never been completely satisfied with that. However, I didn't think I had any choice, because Earthlink uses PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet), and the early home routers didn't support that.

The Linksys BEFSR41 does support it, and does it transparently. Now I don't need to use Earthlink's WinPoEt to log in, the router does it for me. I just turn either computer on, and I've got internet access.

I found setup to be a breeze. I connected the router, pulled up with Router's webpage style controls using Internet Explorer, told it I was using PPPoE, my earthlink user name and password, and I was done. That, and I had to undo all the proxy settings I set up for WinProxy, but if you aren't using a software solution right now, that's not something you'll need to worry about.

Incidently, the router also functions as a network hub. If you have 4 or fewer computers, you don't need a separate hub.

Summary: Excellent Product, Excellent Price
Review: To keep it short: setup took a little time and a little fussing about, but once I got it (without having to call Tech. Support, I'll add) it worked great; a couple of times I lost internet connectivity and had to restart the switch--however, that may have been the cable internet provider's deal, not mine. Other than the fussy installation, and one restart, this has worked flawlessly between a cable modem and two computers with a shared connection (WIN). Highly recommended for the price.

Summary: Pretty darn good!
Review: The Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast 4-Port Cable/DSL Router is a great product. It is easy to set up. It comes with great instuctions. It is reliable. I've discovered that you really don't have to mess with it. Most of the problems that do occur have to do with the cable company. This gadget will network your home computers so you can do more than share your cable/DSL internet connection. You can share printers. You can share files. It's just a great product! If you have more than one computer at home, this is a MUST HAVE! Good job Linksys!

Summary: Very Good product!!!
Review: Thanks to this my 3 PC's share the same Fast DSL access and I also can access any computer on my network from any other computer. I had a little problem setting it up with my ISP but Linksys's technical support was more than helpful on getting everything working. I have not have ANY (not ONE) problem with this router since. I even had to wipe out my hard drives because one of my computer frequently crashes (another problem) and everytime I reload the OS and peripherals on it the router automatcially reconizes it and it is immediately able to connect to the internet, without any more configuration changes to the router. I love the router's setup screen it is very informative and user friendly. I just type the router's ip address in IE or netscape and the setup screen comes up. It even allows you to password protect this setup screen to prevent unauthorized access.

In addition to this I am able to share my printer over the network and I just recently got a laptop computer from my employer to use at work and home. The first time I took the computer home, all I basically had to do was hook up the laptop to the Router make some configuration changes on my laptop (not the router) and voila, my laptop computer was sharing the DSL internet access. It also shares printer and can also access my home computer's hard drives which makes my work alot easier.... I hope they keep up the good work. I may be upgrading to linksys wireless DSL router in the future, but for now this serves my needs effectively.

Summary: Great all around router
Review: Its really a great router and you can't beat the price. I might have gotten the AP Wireless router which combines 4 ports with wireless conectivity had it been a little cheaper. i think its come down in price since then though. this router is great, for those who are having problems with certain things, video interviews, ftp, or whatever, make sure the machine you want to run those things on is DMZed, which just means it will have no firewall protection so you'll have to use software firewalls like ZoneAlarm, instead of the built in hardware one. i just wish they supported DMZing more than one port, but i haven't checked the firmware updates in a while and they might have already taken care of that. its really a great router from a great company. i highly recomend it.

Summary: easiest install ever
Review: I work in the IS world, but I've always had trouble with hardware. If it can fail or break or not work, it will happen to me. Installing this router was absolutely the easiest install I've ever done. It took me less than 10 minutes from the time I unboxed it until I had both PCs up and running on my ISP using the quick start instructions (one is NT, the other Win 2000). I highly recommend this product. It's worth it's weight in gold.

Summary: MSN Messenger problems
Review: Don't buy this router if you use MSN Messenger. The router will not allow voice/video conversations. Linksys support has been responsive assures me the router supports Messenger, but their instructions are extremely complex and so far (two weeks) I havn't been able to implement them. It's a pain unplugging the router and reconfiguring the network connections every time you need to make a call.

Summary: Bad quality for long run use. Tech support phone is busy...
Review: There was no problem in its installation, and I was enjoying the net surfing for 4 months. Suddenly it drops the connection to DSL modem (SBC pac-bell is a provider), and I have to give it a cool down. It works next two days, but it drops again..., Their support line is always busy. I will buy another router from Netgear.
