Rating: Summary: simple and powerful Review: out of the box, this thing was up and running in about five minutes, and works like a charm. if you own more than one pc, and if you have a broadband connection, then buying this thing is a no-brainer.i used to have an old pentium-based toshiba laptop running linux with two pcmcia ethernet cards as my own homegrown firewall/nat/router. when it died, i replaced it with this linksys befsr41. i can't believe i had used such a complicated high-maintenance setup for so long! d'oh! :-)
Rating: Summary: Easy, fast, awesome Review: I chose this router on the recommendation of several friends, and have not been disappointed. This is possibly the easiest-installing piece of networking hardware I have encountered. The enclosed CD steps you through hooking up the cables, and configures both the router and your computers to work. It literally took me under ten minutes to go from opening the box to a working network connection. If you're looking to share a cable connection among computers, this is just the thing to get.
Rating: Summary: everyone needs a network... Review: and this is what you might need. if you have two computers or more, and want ot get them all to the net, this is the perfect device for you. its real easy to install, took me less than 5 minutes to complete. newbies to computers might want to read the manual even then it souldnt take them more than 20 minutes at most. it built in firewall is perfect since hacking is so common these days. if you have broadband its a plus to have this little thing. its (inexpensive) and for its value, its a great decice to have. lynksys makes the best routers too. even if you dont have an internet connection its perfect for filesharing and letting all computers comminicate, are printers and all that.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Product Review: I'm an IT guy and am very wary about all products that I come across. I've been setting up networks for 4 years but never seemed to have the time to set one up at my home. I have 2 kids that needed to share my pacbell broadband connection. After shopping around I realized that this product was the only router/SWITCH. Great idea. Set up took me about 20 minutes connecting the wan link to my ppoe dsl modem and then configuring the router, I then connected my main computer to an avaliable port and was up and running. This thing is blazing. I have not noticed any downgrade in my browsing speeds and because it's a switch (as opposed to a hub) im not noticing any dropped packets. I connected a wireless belkin acess point to another port on the router and installed belkin wireless adapters in my kids computers. This router is the bomb. i get full 11mpbs for my kids who see some degredation in their internet speed compared to mine but they don't notice. I would highly recomend this product to anyone who wants to set up a wireless or wired home network. A++ Product.
Rating: Summary: Donations at their best! Review: I recieved this product as a donation ... and it works flawlessly. I am running the newest filmware update (who wouldn't on a new product?) and I've not had any issues. I have a large home network and I was looking to use something other than my various unix boxes for internet routing. I just simply plugged my uplink from my hub to the router then the WAN connection from the router to my broadband connection and it worked immediately. I would highly reccommend this product to anyone who's looking for an easy to use solution for networking. The only downside is that it only allows 9 port forwards, I hope that theil soon allow more.
Rating: Summary: Probubly the best router. Review: When I took it out of the box, I was amazed. It was so small and cute. I was petting it for the first 5 mins, it was so cute. It is a little bigger than my palm. When I installed it I had no problems. It was quick and easy. Got it working in 3mins not counting reboots. Still works well. Now I don't have to dial my DSL connection, it is finally "always on." I think my computer is in love.
Rating: Summary: Linksys 4-Port Router with Macs Review: We had Broadband Internet installed 3 months ago and I chose the Linksys 4-Port Cable DSL/Router to network a Mac G4 with my iMac to share the cable connection. Instructions included were all for Wintel PC systems but I wired them up with ethernet cables and called Linksys customer service. A friendly customer service rep answered on the 3rd ring and walked me through the set up in less than 5 minutes. Happy surfing ever since at a fraction of the cost of some other brands. It's like my Mac .... it just works!
Rating: Summary: Beware Review: I have been through five, FIVE of these Linksys pieces of junk. Beware of those positive reviews. They work when they work, but wait until they're down. You have to return them to the company and wait for a replacment. Customer service was clunky. I will never buy another Linksys product. NEVER!
Rating: Summary: Works great... but noisy Review: Mine worked flawlessly out of the box, was super easy to setup, and looks great. Unfortunately its power supply makes a high-pitched drone when on. Fine if hidden under a desk, but if you put it in a visible place the whine drives you nuts. So excellent product, just don't use it where you plan on sleeping.....
Rating: Summary: A reliable cable/DSL router Review: Just having bad experience with DLink 604 (unstable XWIndows environment, dropped connections), I bought Linksys BEFR41 model. The configuration of the router and the required changes to my network took about 15 minutes, XWindows run great (more than 24 hrs so far, no lost sessions). I strongly recommend it to people who need a stable router for professional work.
