Summary: XP Users: Don't do it.
Review: If you're using XP Pro, drop the extra [$$] on the PCI card instead (WMP11.)

XP didn't recognize the WUSB11. Linksys tech support and google-searching provided no remedy. Installing and setting up the PCI card took about 10 minutes from the time I opened the computer to submitting this review.

Summary: This wireless LAN component is a pleasure...
Review: I've been using this unit for about a month, switching from WIN98 and WinME machines with barely a hiccup. Reading the instructions; that is installing the software, rebooting and as the machine reboots, plug in the USB connector... is a good thing! The little grean window that indicated a connection comes up,and with the USB its always been at 100% connection. More than I can say for the LINKSYS PCMCIA card in my laptop, used at the same distances. I'll probably use the new one I ordered for when I bring the laptop on the deck in the spring. Hope this helps, but for a non computer guy, this was a pleasure.

Summary: good wireless
Review: I bought this WUSB11 v 2.6 in Jan 2003 for my home network, which is a mixed bag of Airlink 614+, Airlink PC cards, Airlink PCI 520, and Linksys PCI, Linksys PC cards, and Linksys USB. Overall Linksys seems to be of better quality, judging from the outside appearance, sturdiness, look, coverbox, etc. But the heart of wireless devices is in its functionality - speed, range, encryption ability, and ease of setup. In this context, Linksys is better functionally. While the speed, encryption, and ease of setup are are similar between Linksys and Airlink, Linksys has better range. In my direct comparison between the Airlink 520 and Linksys WUSB11, WUSB11 is better. Despite what Airlink says about their range, my connection from the Airlink router 614, located on the East side first floor of my house, to the Airlink PCI 520, located on the second floor on the west side of my house, is at best in the "good" range and tends to be in the "poor" range. This is a 900 sq ft home floor plan, built in the 1920's. When I experimented and swapped this Airlink PCI 520 with the Linksys WUSB11, the connection was clearly better. There you have it. Linksys, however, is more expensive and sometimes difficult to set up (I still am working on installing a Linksys PCI card on my spare laptop with Win98...it keeps asking me for certain dll files which I don't have...XP and 2000 are better) I gave up on calling their tech support.

Summary: Mixed Performance - Needs More Range
Review: I installed a home wireless network using LinkSys products to connect 3 PCs. My Roadrunner cable modem is connected to the LinkSys BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point/Router. This is connected by Ethernet cable to my Dell PC. Flawless, high-speed, error-free performance.

The problem is with the two PCs linked via a wireless connection using WUSB11 wireless adaptors. One works pretty consistently, but with a fair to poor signal that often slows speeds from 11Mbs to 1 or 2 MBs. The other works sporadically, frequently losing the connection and requiring unplugging and replugging the USB cable and fiddling with antenna orientation. Recently this unit has stopped working at all.

We have a pretty large house. The WAP/Router is downstairs, the two wireless adapters are upstairs and at the opposite end of the house. Clearly range is a problem - this wireless network is at the outer limits. Wish LinkSys would make a wireless adaptor with more range, or come up with a signal booster.

Review: It took me no more than three minutes to install software and comunicate with the wireless Router. We have great signal strength and love this product.

Review: I bought this to work with the BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point & DSL Router. I just plug it in and installed the software and it was ready to go.

Summary: In a word...junk
Review: ...

I'm sure this review will get lots of negative feedback, but I don't care. Someone has to let people know what a piece of garbage this product and the WUSB11 are.

I bought this sometime in Febuary and there hasn't been a day where I haven't had to do something extra to get it to work. These things may include unplugging and plugging back in the WAP11, my router, the internet cable connection, or [messing] with the settings, or giving up in frustration and reading a book. I've spent, no joke, at least 21 hours with the tech support line, and the vast amount of that time is waiting on hold with a repeating voice telling me that they're having unusually high traffic and that I should be patient. Well, it's simply no wonder they have such high volume when they produce this kind of junk. I'm at the end of my patience. The first time I called, I got disconneted, maybe by the tech support guy because he couldn't figure out my problem. Then the second time I called, the device worked for about a week before it went down again. The third time I called back, we went through completly different steps to get it to work again, and it worked for about another week, almost hassle free. The fourth time I called back, I was told my problem was a known issue, whatever ... that is since they didn't tell me what the problem was, and they told me to send my product (the WUSB11) back for a replacement, on my dime, nonetheless. I get their replacement, ..., it worked for about a week before it started doing the same kind of crap the old one did. Things like seeing the network connection, but not connecting, working for 10 minutes at a time, then going down for the day, moving the WAP11 or WUSB11 across the room and going out for the day.

Oh, and if you like to play video games over the internt, things like Unreal Tournament or Return to Castle Wolfenstein, prepare to have the game freeze every minute for 3 seconds. Now, that may not sound so bad, but its [really bad] when it freezes and you wake up dead. I suppose this is another known issue that they have no solution for.

Now, you may be saying to yourself, hey, this guy is an idiot who knows nothing about technology and computers. If it doesn't work then it's probably his own fault or ignorance. But, then I'd tell you how I have a degree in computer science and am a professional programmer and feel very comfortable around things such as this. This thing simply doesn't work. I'm supposing that for the people it does work for, they must be in the same room as the WAP11, but in that case you don't really need a wireless connection.

So, heed my words, don't buy this if you don't like to live every day in fear that it'll not work today. ...

And if you're wondering why I gave it 2 stars it's because nobody takes seriously one star reviews. On a scale of 1-10, this product should get a negative infinity.

I'm not joking, this thing is that bad.

Summary: Great Product
Review: This is a great wireless adaptor! I initially had problems with it when i first got it, but i found out the problems were actually all stemming from my windows 98 OS. After a bit of trouble shooting though, i found out how amazing it its. Great stuff!

Summary: Flawless integration with linksys wireless LANs
Review: This product is very simple to install since it is USB. Once installed, the product works very nicely and seems to get very good reception. Great for people who don't want to install a wireless card in their computer, want to be able to easily transport the wirless adapter or use it on multiple computers, or who want to use if on a laptop.

Summary: Easy as 1-2-3!
Review: This thing is a godsend. Boys and girls, do not fret, just get it. I live in NYC and I have a friend who lives 3 floors above my apartment. Needless to say, the connection is flawless almost 24/7. I even pickup signals from places 1-2 blocks away at an average signal(Don't forget to use Encryption unless you don't mind people "stealing" your bandwidth). If you live in an apartment building and want to share a connection with a friend, or if you have an in-home network, JUST DO IT! You won't regret it, and as for XP problems, none yet. This thing is tiny, efficient and effective. AWESOME!
