Summary: Highly Recommend!
Review: I purchased 2 WPC54G PC cards along with the WRT54G Wireless 54g Router, upgrading from Linksys' 80211.b router and card. The speed increase is great. Configuring the router was a bit confusing, but it was worth it. Small detail but appreciated: card comes in a clear plastic case for protection. My old WPC11 card didn't come with a case. This is helpful if you are going to throw the card in your notebook carrying case or a drawer in your kitchen.

Summary: Here is how to make it work for your windows XP!
Review: Good product when you can get it to work. For windows XP this could be a little tricky. The software that comes with it is already outdated and would make your windows crash. You will need to download the newer driver file from Linksys website and install it before you get the PC card attached. This should install both the driver file and wireless configuration utility program. Then, visit Linksys support/knoweldge base website and search for article ID KB10934338. This has more detailed instructions than the manual sent with the product. Attach the PC card to your notebook and follow the prompts. Then it should work just fine!

Summary: Works fine for me
Review: Received the WPC54G...15 minutes later I had it up and running and connecting to my company's access points with my Dell Latitude 600. Took it home and connected fine to my 54G router. All I did was follow the directions and I was up and running. Very happy with this product so far.

Summary: hangs xp on some laptops
Review: I have this card and the WRT54g router and this card works fine in some laptops but hangs xp on install of drivers on others. It works on IBM t models, and sotec 3120x, but from other forums I found HP/compaqs (and from this site dells) are having trouble with the G adapters. When it works, it's great, I have been able to stay connected for 6 or more hours,no drop connections and great speed and distance.

Summary: Easy to Install
Review: It took me precisely 3 minutes to install the card, including the Windows 2000 restart sequence! It worked perfectly on boot up with the default values. I got much stronger signals than the 802.11b card (Linksys) I used previously. I still use this card on my old 802.11b network in mixed mode although I will be upgrading the network to 802.11g when I have time to do so (I already bought the router for it). I would recommend this card to anyone.

Summary: Won't Work with Compaq Laptop and Windows XP
Review: I wrote aqnother review but I didn't see it up. After I finished I saw other reviews with this same problem. The laptop will not accpt the PC card for the wireless G network. From what I have seen it is incompatible with Windows XP and Linsys has sent this out unprepared.

Summary: Wireless G PC card and Compaq Laptop not compatible!
Review: I just tried the Linksys WPC54G and the Access Point on my Compaq 900 series laptop running Windows XP. The PCMCIA card causes the computer to run like a 386 machine when inserted while its on. If inserted when its off the computer is unable to load Windows and resets itself over and over. Linksys could not solve the problem nor could Compaq and Fry's where it was purchased so it was returned. Beware if you buy this for your Compaq laptop, make sure its returnable! Yes, I have tried another brand D-Link and it ran without difficulty, but its range and speed were poor so I wanted the speed of G but I'll have to wait for a fix or another brand.

Summary: Give it an A - For ABSOLUTE JUNK!
Review: Installed the wireless G router (Dell GX750 desktop/Win95) & matching notebook card (new Dell lattitude C610 laptop/WinXP). 1st install went easy on both systems and everything was up and running in about 30 min....but this only lasted for about 10 minutes! First the notebook stopped working. Then the desktop locked up! Tried uninstall & reinstall 4 times on both machines. Spent almost 6 hours on the helpline talking to India (4 calls & lots of wait even at 4 am EST on Saturday!) Notebook install says I need a file called LSBCMNDS.SYS but its NOT on any CD that came with the hardware. Tried to download from Linksys.com & they didn't have it in the driver file either! After downloading and unzipping their useless driver file my desktop system locks up everytime I try to access Linksys.com! Maybe they just don't want to hear about it anymore. Save your money, this combo is DEFINITELY NOT ready for primetime.

Summary: INSTALLATION NIGHTMARE
Review: Router installed in a snap. Not the WPC54G card. After installing the driver on my Presario 17xl370 notebook with W2K, the card was shown as Inactive. Calling Linksys support was a complete waste of time. The only thing they are good at is telling you to re-install the driver and putting you on hold for ever! Re-installing the driver didn't help, and I tried, OK about 5 times. Before returning the card back to Amazon, I decided to re-install the whole W2K system. At one point, I was close to throwing everything out through a closed window. Anyway, my effort paid off and I made the card work.
I am happy with it now, the speed and range is great. I wouldn't however recommend the card to anybody before Linksys does something with the driver. If you can wait, don't buy it now.

Summary: Well Worth the Upgrade
Review: Setup is very easy. There are two network options, Ad-hoc and Infrastructure. The manual suggests that Ad-hoc is for peer-to-peer networking and Infrastructure for server networks but in fact I found that both options connected to an existing hub network.

Client configuration is a typical Wizard asking for Access Point Name, SSID, and channel number with the addition of a hexadecimal key if you choose the Infrastructure option. When you have filled in the details demanded by the Wizard, you reboot your computer and place the card in the laptop's PCI slot. Windows identifies the card and may ask for your Operating System Disk to complete the installation. Once the system setup is finished you are ready to go. An icon will be found on the task bar to access the configuration program if required. If you uninstall the product you may find that a locked file remains after running the Uninstall Wizard. If this occurs you will not be able to re-install the client and driver until you reboot and remove the remnants of the client program using Control Panel.

Overall the product works well and connected without any problems to both an 802.11b and 802.11g networks. Type G obviously offers extra speed and in every day working is similar to using a 100 MB wired network.
