Summary: Wait for a patch, this thing still has some bugs
Review: Linksys knew that this product was in demand, so it seems that they rushed it out the door before they worked all the kinks out of it. It has a lot of problems, and there are still no firmware updates available as of mid-April.First off, if you're really expecting that "up to 100m" transmitting range, you are kidding yourself. My unit can send a clean signal up to about 25 feet, and the signal drops off quickly from there. Walls also quickly kill the connection, causing the signal to drop in half when entering a different room. Not surpisingly, I can't walk more than 5 feet outside my apartment without completely losing a connection on my laptop. Here's a list of bugs that I found with the product so far: Even with "keep alive" enabled, I keep losing my DSL login after 10 minutes of inactivity. It takes about 30 seconds to reestablish a connection after it fails. Meanwhile, the web browser usually gives up and times out. Expect to get a bunch of "Host not found/DNS error" messages after walking away from the computer for awhile and coming back. Some of the online help messages seem to be missing from the router itself. Getting a 404 error while surfing the web is one thing, getting one while configuring the router is another. I've also seem odd pauses and lost connections after making a simple change to the configuration settings, like changing the router password. The drivers for the Linksys wireless network card aren't much better. The setup utility occassionally crashes under Windows 2000 when trying to change wireless channel settings. Tech support is usually friendly, but not very helpful. They'll have you try obvious things that you've probably already tried it you have read the manual, and then say that it is your computer's fault if it still doesn't work. UPDATE: Linksys released updated firmware a month later, which fixed most of the router's stability problems. The wireless range is still medicore, however, and the the unit still occassionally crashes every few weeks.

Summary: Defective Product
Review: I bought this to replace a Linksys router/firewall/switch that I have used for about 9 months - a device which worked great. However, this unit has been unusable. I have spent several futile hours trying to get the wireless working with my Wife's Compaq Wireless card. I am a Network Engineer and have setup 802.11b wireless equipment before. This unit simply does not work as advertised. Of course, Linksys tech support blamed the problem on the Compaq card. It also locks up for no apparent reason. I will be returning it. What a shame. If it did what is was supposed to do, it would a great product.

Summary: Great Price for Performance equals VALUE!!!
Review: I have been using a Linksys Router (BEFSR41) for several months. It has operated flawlessly! I was intrigued by Linksys introduction of a new Router with Wireless capabilities built in. I work from home and was looking for a wireless solution to replace the extra long LAN cable running all over the house. After review several other comparable products I choose Linksys because of the Price/Performance. Setting up this product required only some simple configurations. I also purchased a Linksys Wireless Interface (WPC11) for my laptop. This combination took less than an hour to install and setup. Both products worked together the first time out of the box and have been performing great! When connected to the office, I can not tell the difference from a wired connection. In my opinion, the Linksys Wireless Router and Interface provided an easy to install and reliable setup at a Great Value!!!

Summary: highly disappointed
Review: The router worked real well for about a day and then the wireless connection went south. Also, I noticed some of the web pages are missing from the configuration page and periodically I get erroneous error messages when updating the configuration. And if this was enough, I also notice some latency when accessing my LAN remotely via telnet (forwarding port 23 to my Unix server). Needless the say I'm highly disappointed with this product more effort should have been put into quality of service before releasing this product on the market...

Summary: The Access Point won't be the cause of most problems
Review: The problem with ping failures to the Wireless Access Point after some time has nothing to do with the Linksys unit. I have a D-LINK DWL-500 card on my desktop at home, the Linksys BEFW11S4 as the access point and a laptop with the Cisco Aironet 340 card. At first, I installed the Access Point and configured it using a cable. Then, got the desktop wireless card working. After that, I went to the laptop and apparently got it working also in infrastructure mode. So, I had everything working fine and could ping from laptop to desktop, and vice-versa, and from any computer to the access point. However, after around 20 minutes the laptop stopped pinging the base unit, and soon after that the desktop would also lose connection. Rebooting the Access Point would solve the problem. Since I got the laptop and desktop previously working on peer-to-peer mode, the obvious suspect was the Linksys access point. However, trying to isolate the problem I turned off the laptop and got the desktop working flawless with the access point for 24 hours. Then, turned off the desktop and the problem would be present after 20 minutes using the laptop. So, clearly there was the problem: one of the MANY configuration options of the Cisco card. After proper configurations, I already have more than one week of flawless operation of my totally wireless home network.

Summary: Fast,Cheap & Eazy
Review: I bought this to surf the internet & watch tv at the same time. It works great I only have a small apartment so no problem with signal loss (Even on the balcony). Also I have a 2.4ghz phone which I thought might cause a problem but so far so good!

Summary: even their tech support could not make it work
Review: I spent a long time trying to make this box work. I spent about an hour with the tech support and he could not make it work with PPPoE. This box definately does not work with Mindspring in the Berkeley, CA area. I am a pretty tech savvy guy, and I could not make it work, so unless you know for sure this will work for you, I would try Netgear. I use the linksys wireless pcmcia card, however, with no problems.

Summary: Easy Setup, Fast Routing
Review: I got it up and running in 10 minutes on first try. I am using a Orinoco Silver PC card with it, with WEP off. Its been on for like 4 hours now, and unlike other reviewers, i havent had any routing lock ups etc. The components in the network are 1) laptop (DELL, using WIN ME) 2) desktop (SONY VAIO using WIN 98SE) and 3) @HOME cable modem. Overall, as of now, i am very much satisfied with it.

Summary: Works Great
Review: We just purchased the Linksys Access Point and it works great. I took me only about 15-20 minutes to get everything up and running. I configured the access point and installed a PC Card into a laptop. It takes little to no configuration depending on what you will be using it for. My only complaint is that I am not getting the distance out of it that I had hoped. We have two builings next to each other and it will not reach the end of the other building. Inside the office, however, it works great. I would definitely recommend it for a small office or home use.

Summary: Do you really need wireless in the home ?
Review: It may be cheaper to CAT5 wire the home before you experiment with wireless. I have had several frustrating hours on the phone with Linksys support - all have tried to help but end up with suggesting I return the unit, which I guess I will do one more time as wireless home networking is such a good idea ! Problems seem to be in getting wireless-equipped notebooks talking to the hub - hard wired connections to the hub work fine. It just didn't work even after endless configuration checks of all units. If someone has this unit working with a WPC11 card equipped device, I wish they'd share how they did it.
