Summary: Linksys Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router
Review: We had the router set up with two wired desktop computers and one wireless laptop. For some reason the router would only allow either both wired machines, or one wired one wireless, connect to the internet at any given time. Linksys tech support figured it was a bad router, but upon replacement the new one did the same thing. Very strange indeed. One unhappy customer.

Summary: Awesome Wireless Router/Access Point
Review: This router/AP is the best value out there. I installed and configured it in 3 minutes on my win2000 desktop using the CD that basically configured the router for me based on my cable/modem and connection to Cox cable. I spent another 2 minutes configuring my laptop using the Linksys WPC11. Then I took the laptop to the basement (other end of the house, several 40 years old plaster walls away) and used the wireless configuration utility of WPC11 to show an "excellent" link quality and signal strength! Then I started moving around the yard (0.75 acre lot) and walked all the way to the mailbox and still was surfing at high speed! :) It showed 100% link strength all over the 1st floor of the house(rambler). No problems, installed 2 computers in 5 minutes, it costs only ...and WPC11 ... Plus it looks great and has a small footprint. It was my first networking experience and Linksys hooked me as a loyal customer for life. Later on I decided to share my printer between the desktop and the laptop and the Linksys web site had a link explaining exactly what to do for both my win2000 desktop and my win98 laptop. Impressive!! Took 5 minutes to setup file and printer sharing. Also I added WEP 128 bit encryption for security in 1 minute. This review is for version 2 of the Wireless router/Access point and version 3 of the WPC11 card. I was so impressed I decided to write this first review of my life to share my wonderful experience :):):) Thank you Linksys!

Review: I've had the Linksys Wireless PC Card for 3 weeks or so now on a Sony laptop with Windows XP. Installs in 3 seconds and has worked without fail. The two other computers in the house use the USB versions, and they, too, are working beautifuly. What a relief not to bother with the wires any more and have real speed. Perhaps most important, I have the Linksys router and access point unit relieve my desktop from functioning as a server for the other computers on my home network. Now everybody can use the internet whether my desktop is on or off.

Summary: Worked out of the box...even with employers vpn
Review: I hooked up the router to my dsl line, ignoring the 'Stop run me first' cd and booted my dual boot pc with 2000 prof and the linksys router worked via a cat 5 cable!
This is what I expected, my dsl is dhcp and I expected that to be the linksys default.
I then logged into the linksys router and may in the future change the default SSID(I believe if I change this name then someone(a neighbor perhaps) would have to guess this name to attach to my wirless lan).
Then I took the notebook and removed the xircom card and put in the linksys WPC11 card. Again, I ignored the instructions and let 2000 configure it, 2000 said it didn't like the firmware and wanted to change it, so I let it. It downgraded the firmware but when it rebooted it connected with 100% quality and signal strength(I like the monitoring utility). Then I moved the notebook around the house and the signal strength dropped but stayed in the 'excellence' range.
Next, I rebooted in nt and installed the driver from the cd, all was fine. Now, I tried to connect to my companies VPN Bay network. I though I would have to configure something for this to work but then that worked(so it must encapsulate the vpn ip address).
I bought the linksys router and cards from amazon figuring they would have the lastest and not old equipment and the free shipping took only 2 days via UPS!!! No tax and a rebate, ok!
I'm going to investigate the security but maybe someone can reply with advice. As I just got a compaq server and would like to leave it connected.
Also, is there a limit on number of wireless devices connected?
As for the cons in the outline above, 11Mbps is way higher than my dsl, so that's not a bottleneck in my new wireless world.

Summary: Even my cat could install this
Review: In a phrase: stupid proof to install. The Version 2.0 of this router comes with a CD and software that walks you step-by-step through the process. It could not have been easier. It took me all of 10 minutes to setup a Win98 machine and a WinME laptop with the wireless card(WPC11) and tie them both to a cable modem.I read the other reviews before purchasing this product and frankly expected the worst since people are more obliged to make their problems public than attest to a product's ease. The range is very good; with the router in the basement, I have 80% signal strength 2 floors above. Since it's raining today I haven't checked its range outdoors. Do yourself a favor and ditch the CAT-5's and get this. I should have done it a long time ago!

Summary: BEFW11S4 & and WPC11
Review: Provided CD software, although simple and appearing to be straightforward, wasn't successful in getting wireless going. I called Linksys tech support and Jerwin patiently and professionally walked me through both the router and the network card installs. So far, they seem to work great....although I'm noticing a greater propensity of "locking up" on both the PC and the Notebook when using the internet.

Summary: Linksys Wireless Wonder
Review: This Router (BEFW11S4) is extremely easy to set up and the setup disk that comes with it makes it even more of a breeze. I have 4 computers hard wired into the router and 2 laptops using wireless and they all operate flawlessly and speedily. I had a little trouble with the PCMCIA wireless card at first and found that it had to be configured manually (a matter of one setting). My wireless speeds are great so far. I highly recommend this wireless Router to anyone looking for one. The one draw back; if it's important, is that it's not a print server and that's not a problem for me. The other upside is it's high tech, cool, pleasant look and color scheme that should go well anywhere in your home or office. It's compact size prevents it from being overbearing and accents your system with it's appearance. The photos of the unit make it look much larger than actual. Other makes and models do have slim appearances and profiles but, usually take up more surface area and don't compare to the compact but beefy look of Linksys. All in all they all do the same thing with some being easier to setup than others and some feature differences. Be sure you know what features you want and need before buying a router. Do you need only wireless access or do you need it combined with wired? Do you need a print server? These are all important questions to ask yourself. I like Linksys, it's a quality well known brand much like the other routers here on Amazon.[com.] This router is easy to setup but, some others may be easier. Ultimately they all do the same thing and that's where looks come into play. You will enjoy the easy setup and use of this Linksys Wireless Router.

Summary: Linksys Wireless Router Unusable in Wireless mode
Review: I bought the Linksys Wireless 4-port Cable/DSL Router and 2 WMP11 cards. The router worked fine with direct CAT5 connections, but totally failed with wireless connections using the WMP11 cards. 2.5 hours on the phone with Linksys support did not solve the problem. I eventually solved it myself, but Internet connection speeds went down 100x, from 1.5Mbps to 12Kbps. Distance from PC to router was 18 inches, and signal strength was 100%. I am returning the equipment.

Summary: Easy to use; couple with WUSB11 for best results
Review: I have two of these now, one connected to a wireless access port (WAP11) in one house, another connected to the new Linksys cable modem in the other. This router is easy to set up, with virtually no configuration changes no matter which entry device I connect it to. I have had some problems (wireless network goes down completely for a moment) with the one connected to the cable modem. I suspected they were heat-related, since I was stacking the devices and the cable modem runs hot. Linksys suggested that maybe the cable modem was "interfering" in some way with the router. In any event, it is much more stable now that the two devices are separated, although this obviously takes up more footprint in my house. My final suggestion is to use the USB wireless connector (WUSB11) for PCs that need to be on the network. I have found that I get stronger, more reliable connections from farther away than I can get from my PCMCIA wireless card in my laptop. In fact, one of the WUSB11's is easily 50 feet from the wireless router, through floors and walls, in the basement, and gets nearly 100% signal strength. The point is, it matters what device is on BOTH ends of the connection to make it work best. All in all, I am very happy with all of my Linksys products, and would recommend an all-Linksys setup to first-time buyers.

Summary: Linksys Wireless Just Works!
Review: I have a Linksys wireless cable/dsl router, which I use only to share internet connections among pc's in my house. Set up was easy -- the instructions were clear and accurate. More impressive is the ease with which wireless clients can see the network and just hop on. For example, I use an Apple iBook, and I was hesitant to get an Airport card, worried that I'd have problems getting it to see the pc-based Linksys router. I know that 802.11b is supposed to be "compatible" across the board, but ... well, we all know how that works (or doesn't work!) sometimes. Nevertheless, I took the chance, and everything worked perfectly. The Airport card saw the network immediately, and I was on the internet from my iBook a few seconds later without a single glitch. Impressed, I bought a Netgear wireless usb adapter for another pc in the house. Unfortunately, it didn't work at all. After working over an hour with tech support, I decided to trade it in for a Linksys wireless usb adapter. Best move I made! The Linksys unit found and communicated with the router within minutes after it was out of the box. Connection speeds are amazing -- indistinguishable from the pc that's hard wired to the router. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the Linksys router and wireless adapters -- they just plain work!
