Summary: BUY ANOTHER ONE!!!
Review: I initially bought 2 of these one for my home and one for my parents home. One of the units did not work right off the bat so I had to return it to compusa... Then everything worked great until a couple months later. First, the one at my parents broke (no power at all) so I called tech support and replaced it. Until the new router came I gave my parents mine to use for a while. The replacement came and all was good for a while. Then my router broke this time the ports were unusable. I called tech support again and arranged for a replacemet. I sent mine out to them and they seem to of lost it!!!!!!!! They took my info and said they would get back to me... No router yet!!!!!!!!!!!!! On top of that the range sucks.. way less than a hundred feet!!! I knew I was in trouble when the product didn't work right out of the package and then one broke a couple months later!!!! What makes things worse is that out of my suggesttion my brother and sister each bought one of these!!!!! No problems yet for them... I hope nothing goes wrong. If I were to do it all over... I wouldn't buy this item.. not worth the hassle!!

Summary: Quick and Easy
Review: I am very satisfied with my home network and it is exceeding my expectations. I wanted to set up a small home network for two PC's in a two story townhouse condominium. High speed access is provided by cable modem and I have an HP Officejet K80 connected to a USB port on a Windows 98 desktop PC. My other PC is a Dell notebook running Windows 2000.

After reading numerous Amazon customer reviews on wireless routers and adapters, I decided to buy the following:

Router - Linksys Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL router (BEFW11S4 v.2)
Wireless network adapter - Netgear MA401 802.11b Wireless PC card
10/100 Lan card - Linksys LNE100TX 10/100 Lan card
Total Cost - about $210

I chose the router because Linksys seemed to have less problems than other brands. I chose the Netgear wireless PCMCIA adapter because users reported excellent signal strength over varying distances and it had a built-in antenna. I also didn't want to use my one USB port on the notebook for a network adapter. The Linksys 10/100 Lan card was just a great buy for under $20.

Setup was relatively straightforward. I installed the 10/100 Lan card first into my desktop PC and then connected it to the cable modem just to make sure the card worked properly. Next, I followed the quick start instructions for connecting the router to the cable modem and to the desktop PC. Then I used the setup wizard on the CD to guide me on configuring the router. At one point during the router configuration, I had to power off and on the cable modem before the router detected the Internet. Once it did, it automatically picked up the information it needed to configure the router with my ISP's assigned addresses. Note: the network patch cable that came with the Linksys router is only about a foot long, so you may want to get a longer one.

Once I verified the desktop was accessing the Internet through the router, I setup the Netgear wireless PCMCIA card for my Dell notebook. Again, I just followed the setup instructions and it connected to the router without any problems. I placed my notebook PC on the first floor of my condo and the Netgear utility program showed the signal strength and link quality at 100% or Excellent. The router is on the second floor approximately 30 feet away and about 3 feet off the floor.

Once I set up file and print sharing on the desktop PC, I was able to print easily from my notebook to the HP Officejet K80 connected to my desktop. The only quibble here is that the desktop PC has to be on for the remote printing to work. I may invest in a Linksys Etherfast Wireless USB Print Server (about $80) if it gets too inconvenient.

The last thing I did was read the Router's user's guide to set up the WEP security for 64 bit encryption. I used a passphrase for both the Linksys router and Netgear wireless adapter and it worked without a hitch. I also changed the router's web-based utility default password for additional security.

All in all, I found the setup to be straight-forward and I did not need to talk to any technical support people. Every product I purchased lived up to the reviews that I had read, so I hope this review will help someone, too.

Summary: It's simple, it's easy, it works, and it's fast
Review: I installed the Linksys wireless router and 2 types of Linksys network adapters with PCs with three different versions of Windows - 2000 professional, ME, and XP.

All went in quickly and easily - I did not need to call the help desk for assistance but it was nice to know that I could have. The PDF version of the manual was easy to use to understand how to turn on encryption and limit the # of open ports.

I am now using this all over the house and in the yard with excellent reception and very fast speed. One DSL connection, 3 PC's always on line, mobility, speed, flexibility.

An outstanding, easy to use, product with great performance!

Summary: Excellent AP cable/dsl device
Review: NO MORE CABLES! It was kind of hard to get this rolling at first but once I figured that I needed to set the WMP11 wireless PCI cards on "AdHoc" instead of "Infrastructure"...the computers in Network Neighborhood started popping up all over the place and everything came together just like when I had my hub and cables all over the floor...minus that old hub and cables :)...

Summary: It Works
Review: This product performs as advertised. It extends network and internet access throughout your office or home without the hassle of hard wiring.

Setup is fairly straightforward. We are using it with a cable modem, a server and 4 worksations (2 of which are wireless).

I recommend the Wireless USB Adapter (WUSB11) rather than than the wireless card for laptops...the reception is much greater.

Summary: Have had it almost 1 year
Review: I have it almost one year and it is working great. I have 2 machines at home (laptop and desktop) on wireless. I dot use the encryption because had some issues but no worries because of mac address reservation. Overall for a good switch/wireless/router I would give it a thumbs up.

Summary: Great product, slow customer support line
Review: I recently purchased the Linksys Wireless Cable DSL router. It has been working great and was relatively easy to set-up for my home network running DSL. While aware that the customer support line for any product can be a harrowing experience, mine totaled almost 2 hours. The tech stayed with the problem for close to an hour, however it was difficult to get bumped to the next level of support.

Regarding the call: There was one odd issue after the router was configured. I was able to receive email and browse the internet. However, I was not able to send email, FTP, or use my weblogging software package. After exhausting self-fixes (port forwarding etc.) I caved and called customer support. 30+ minuted to get a live technician and then almost an hour to diagnose and solve the problem.

For those of you that may have similar problems, adjusting the size of the MTU may fix some bottleneck problems sending data out.

Overall, the product has been running smoothly since then with no complaints. Stats:
*3 machines: wired Windows 98 Desktop, Linux Server, and a wireless laptop with Lucent Orinoco Wireless Card
*I was able to enable WEP encryption fairly easily for higher wireless security.
*Port forwarding is operational to my Linux server (easy configuration)
*Sharing files and my printer has worked also

Summary: Good Product - The Worst Tech Support
Review: I bought Linksys's wireless router because after doing some research and from a personal recomenadation from a friend that had their four-port router (the non-wireless equivalent) I determined that they were the best. Unfortunately set-up did not go smoothly and I had to call their tech support. Calling during the day is a joke, you'll wait on hold forever, so I called around midnight, and got to a technician almost immediately. They were helpful the first time I called them, and the router worked well for a while. After several months, I noticed that the two other computers that I had connected to the wireless network would loose their connection occationally. The only way I could get them to connect again was to reset the router. I called tech support again to see what I could do to remedy this problem. The tech walked me through steps to flash the router's BIOS. As I followed his instructions, the diagnostic light, on the router, began to flash and the Linksys support determined that the router was now unusable. My router was still in warrenty, but Linksys made it such a hassel to get it replaced. After faxing them numerous times the information they requested, they would never follow up. I would call them again and again and wait on hold for 10 to 15 minutes each time to talk to somebody who would claim that they never received the receipt that I faxed them. Finally I just mailed them the receipt and forms they wanted me to fax. After over a month went by of them not responding to my letter with their requested information, I was getting ready to send letters to the BBB and Attonery General's office (I had the letters typed and was going to drop them in the mail the next day.) Suddenly the replacement router was delivered to me. Over all it took about 2 1/2 months from the time that Linksys issued me an RMA number to the time that they sent me the replacement router.
This is by far the worst support I have ever encountered for a any product. I can understand that there is a occasional "bad one" in the batch when they manufacture their products, and that I happened to get it. The fact the the router stopped working was understandable, but to cause so much hassle and to take so long to honor their warranty is unacceptable.

Summary: Linksys DSL / Router
Review: Wow,
After reading some of the reviews here I purchased this Router and a Linksys wireless network card. I couldn't believe how easy this was. It worked when I turned it on - before I even configured it! Fantastic! It then took all of 10 minutes to setup the wireless card and it worked the first time too! Both are top notch, buy with confidence!
