Rating: Summary: Excellent...No Problems Review: I ordered the WRT54G Wireless-G Router along with 2 pci cards and a card for my laptop. After ordering I read some reviews that mentioned they had some problems configuring the devices. I set mine up on 1 XP machine, 1 XP laptop and Win2K machine all within 30 minutes with NO PROBLEMS at all, the install disc did all the work. I think it actually took me longer to open my boxs and take out the old network cards and pop in the new, reboot and done, scanned, connected and surfed all 3 machines with in 1/2 hour! I would reccomment this to anyone going wireless.
Rating: Summary: Great Router Review: Some Info I Read Said the 802.11b support was bad. This is Not True. I replaced my 802.11b router with this one and the performance is great. I have my Playstation2 and XBox Hooked up thru this Router Wirelessly plus my Laptop that I use for Work. I have two 2.4Ghz Phones, and Everything Works Great!Hooking up a PS2 Helpful Hint. If you Get Authorization Errors. You May have to Enable DMZ for Your Playstation on the Applications & Gaming TAB of the Web Based Config Utility. Happy Gaming.
Rating: Summary: THIS is router NIRVANA. Look NO further than Linksys! Review: I bought the 54mbps D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G High-Speed 2.4GHz (802.11g) wireless router. (There was a great sale at a local retail store on this product. Now I know why!) I received poor, or no, signal strength from this router. I then switch to Linksys and wha-la! I now receive "GOOD" to "EXCELLENT" signal strength while I am more than 70 feet away with walls and all kinds of obstacles in the way in my three bedroom apartment! The instructions that come with this router are approximately five pages long. I also bought the Wireless G USB Network Adapter to receive the signal from the router. (Again, very BRIEF, EASY instructions to follow.) Someone that is computer savvy should have everything--both the wireless router and wireless adapter--up and running in less than ten minutes. I can't see a complete beginner taking more than, say, 30 minutes. I have no problems with overheating, either. I haven't turned the router and adapter off since I bought them, and that was a month ago!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING...still doesnt do this thing justice Review: I purchased this router along with the WPC54G wireless card, and I am nothing but happy. These two items both work flawlessly, and the router has a ton of features and security measures. Anyone who says otherwise is crazy. I can go anywhere in my house and it works great. It even works outside, but i havent tried to find out how far yet. LINKSYS IS AMAZING. ooh yea, i have no heat problems, like some others mentioned. Everything runs smooth as silk.
Rating: Summary: please stop degrading this great product Review: ok this is how it goes, this is the only wireless router i have ever used and it happens to be that way because it has served all my wireless needs perfectly and hence i have had no need to try any other one. the only negative thing i might say about this product is not really about the product but about the company (Linksys). i called thier customer service line just to ask a general question about the router but was put on hold for a significant amount of time (which is common practice with a lot of companies). the question wasn't even related to the product's setup as that was just a cake walk. its funny cause i wonder why some people give this product a bad review, either they just cant follow instructions or they bought a damaged product. what ever the case may be, this is a great product and i recommend it to anyone wanting to go wireless.
Rating: Summary: Works well for me, but I had to get a new cordless phone. Review: I'm a electronics junkie and like it says it works well for me and was a snap to setup and very reliable. I have 3 computers, 1 Dell PDA and my X-BOX all hooked-up via wireless, all are using Linksys cards except the PDA(built in wi-fi). I did this to eliminate any capatability problems. I have solid communication with the router from all rooms, levels and garage!(2-1/2 story home with aluminum siding and attached garage). Why only 4 stars, my Panasonic 2.4Ghz phone killed the link with the router so I picked up 5.8Ghz Uniden phone and my problems are gone. I've had this setup for over a year and I am very happy with it since I don't have to drill holes and route wires all over the place.
Rating: Summary: It simply works! Review: I first bought the Linksys Wireless B router and it was nothing but trouble. I had trouble uploading to a FTP site and the connection was dropped often. I also had trouble downloading from many sites. Then, thinking I can always return the product to Amazon, I bought this G router. And I am totally happy with this product. Uploading to FTP sites are no longer a problem and wireless connection is very stable between my desktop computer and a notebook with Centrino technology. I did upgraded the firmware to the latest one before I began using the router. I did thought about buying the Netgear G router but comments about its customer service worried me so I gave Linksys another chance. I did call its customer service once just to make sure I did all the set up correctly - the tech rep was kind of cocky about helping me; he sounded pretty irritated when I asked about non-set-up issues. But the product works so I forgave him. My notebook uses the B technology so this G router is definitely an overkill but I am glad I stepped up to this one. Now, I don't worry about the "wireless" thing any more. It just works!
Rating: Summary: Good product; Bad documentation Review: I'm a tech-head so naturally I wanted to go wireless just for the fun of it. To make it more interesting I decided to extend my existing wired network with the Linksys wireless router. The setup looked and seemed simple enough. So I plugged my network cable into the UPLINK port of my wired router and into the WAN port of my wireless router (there are 4 DOWNLINK ports and one WAN port.) Now, it would seem more logical to plug the network cable from UPLINK port to UPLINK port, but there isn't one on the wireless router. I connected with the router and proceeded to set it up; disabled DHCP, changed the local IP, modified the wireless security, etc. My laptop computer connected with it, but couldn't see anything else on my network. Bummer. After a couple frustrating days I finally realized that DOWNLINK PORT 4 is the UPLINK PORT on the wireless router!! Although I couldn't find any documentation on it anywhere. Now if you read the docs on the older router with an UPLINK port you'll find that the UPLINK port and PORT 4 share internal components and you can't use both at the same time. But the docs for the WRT54G fails to mention the UPLINK port was dropped and PORT 4 functions as both (on the back of the router you'll have 4 ports and a WAN port), If you want to connect 2 Linksys routers together make sure you plug from UPLINK to UPLINK (or PORT 4 if you don't have an UPLINK port.) I like the router, but rate this product only average (3 Stars) due to its poor documentation. The Linksys website is a collection of useless FAQ with no detailed documentation on their products (at least I couldn't find any.) Perhaps, they'll read all the Amazon customer comments and take action to fix the problems their customers have. Now that would be customer service!
Rating: Summary: Real easy and simple. Review: It must be bad luck for someone who posted negative about this router. My experience was too good to be true, just unbox, plugin the power adapter, internet cable. One wired PC downstair, and two wireless PCs upstair with the Belkin F5D7000 adapters up and running all by themself. I also went into the web based config to look around, and it is very easy to navigate and configure, I also tried to upgrade the firmware from 1.4.2 to 2.02.2 sucessfully. There were no problem what so ever with v1.4.2, just want to have the latest. Will see how long this would last for quality check.
Rating: Summary: strong signal, easy setup Review: I purchased the router only for use with my new sony VAIO pcg-v505dx. I was a bit worried initially that I would have difficulty getting the router to talk to the laptop's built-in wireless adapter, but I needn't have worried-despite the fact that I ad never set up a home network before, I was up and running in minutes. The laptop and router had no problems communicating. From what I've read about home wireless network security, this one seems to have all the essential features: WPA, the ability to filter by MAC address of the machines on the network, ability to disable DHCP, etc. the online configuration is a snap, although there are a lot of options to hunt through, and not all of the security settings related to wireless networking are in one place. I particularly appreciate the router's logging feature, since I can check it to make sure nobody has hacked into my network and is accessing the net using my router. One of my prime concerns was signal strength-I wanted to be able to go anywhere in my somewhat large apartment and still get decent signal. I'm very, very pleased in this regard, I can be in the back bedroom and the signal strength seems as strong as it is next to the router. I've been using it for three hours straight and it's dropped the connection once (which might well have been my fault, I was fiddling with the XP network settings at the time). Cisco has a very strong rep in the industry as being a leader in quality networking equipment, and from what I can see, the Linksys line upholds that. This is a good product.
