Summary: Compatibility problems
Review: I got this router to replace my BEFSW11S4.
Wired Desktop connected to the WRT54G worked immmediately.
Problem: 2 out of my 3 wireless 802.11b adapters were not able to get the wireless link.
A skyline Farallon (now Proxim) PCMCIA card: Linksys support recognized there is a compatibility problem with 802.11b device using a CISCO chipset. These devices have to be upgraded somehow (if the different companies don't want to, then too bad....)
A WCF11 Linksys CompactFlash wirless card: the Linksys support wasn't able to answer why it is not compatble...and it seems it takes them days to test it (it's 2 of their devices!!!!) and to tell me if it is just one of my devices problem.
I have only a Linksys WMP11 PCI card that is still working with the WRT54G.
I'm going to wait a little bit to try to test it with some other 802.11b and 802.11g devices and then return it if the incompatibility gets worst.

Summary: Linksys Wireless 54g Got have it!
Review: I recently purchased this and it is my first experience with a Linksys product. I found that the installation was simple and straight forward. My WirelessG card work instantly with no problems. However I had a Compaq 11Mb card that I couldn't get connected and after digging around in the access point, making sure it was set to handle both 11.b and 11.g. I found in the advanced settings that the speed is set to 54mb by default. I set this to auto and my 11mb card connected with no problems. Somthing to look out for but not hard to find or change. I found the speed and range to be very good. I could go anywhere around my home. A nice touch is the built in Dynamic DNS feature for those you want to host thier own web site. It has plenty of features and simple enough for the novice and some nice advance features for the Power User or complete Geek.

Summary: Great product - Verizon's DSL broadband connection
Review: The installation was quite quick, just ensure that you select PPPoE rather than DHCP. The desktop (wired) is running Win NT and I'm using the WPC54G wireless card on my laptop running Windows 2000 Professional.
My partner was quite surprised since the setup didn't take the one week as she had predicted.
In a 1000 sq. ft. apartment, I'm getting 48-54 Mbps inspite of sharing the frequency with a 2.4GHz cordless phone (spreads well over the 32 channels, I guess)

Summary: Doesn't work with my new HP laptop
Review: I just received the wireless g router and notebook adapter card. I cannot get the wireless portion to work. The software hangs up and will not install. Even after numerous manual attempts I cannot get a connection. Customer service for Linsys was terrible. Long wait and then I was told that the product wasn't compatible with my new laptop? No help available. They suggested I buy a b adapter instead. Very disappointed.

Summary: The range and speed :) OH MY!!!
Review: This thing is great!! Not only was it delivered before [they] told me to expect it, but setup was a snap. I have 4 acres, and can be anywhere on my property and still access my network, and cable modem. Why did I wait so long to go wireless? I heard that once you go wireless, you never go back.... how true it is!!

Summary: Great Product from Linksys again
Review: The product is based on a 802.11g draft, which will be finalized in this summer. But most of the spec has been freezed, we won't see much change later. I believe in Linksys support from my previous expreiences. They never drop their firmware/driver support/update from my old 802.11b card. The speed of the new card make the old .11b a shame. In general, I got 18Mbs to 24Mbs throughput in various range and environment, which is quite enough for me. File transfer between my laptop and desktop is a pain via 802.11b, now it is a joy. My suggestion is, if you are in need of a wireless LAN card, grad this one. Don't even look at 802.11b, it will be obselete eventually. If you can wait for a while, sure, after spec finalized in this summer, you can open your wallet with more confidences. But, for me, I will dive in without a hesitation now!

Summary: Backwards compatibility is a joke
Review: CNet reviewed it and found that, if you had any 802.11b clients, the access point forced everybody into 802.11b mode. I'm not touching this puppy until it can have b and g running simultaneously (just like having 10Mbps and 100Mbps devices hooked up to the same Ethernet switch). It ought to be possible, after all, even if it has to run them on separate radio channels.

Summary: Works with X-Box Live
Review: I bought this wireless router in the hope that I would be able to use it to connect both my computer and my X-Box to my DSL connection without having to run an ethernet cable from my office (on the second floor) to my basement (where the X-box and TV are located). As I am not very technically savy, and Microsoft's technical support for X-box won't provide support for wireless routers, I made sure to hold on to my receipt in case I could not get it to work right. Much to my delight, installation was easy and the router works great with both my X-box and my computer. I used an ethernet cable to connect my X-box to the router while using the wireless capability to connect my computer. I was up and running in ten minutes. This is a must have for anyone who wants to use X-box Live in a room that is far away from your computer. (Note: You will also need wireless card installed in your computer).

Summary: Very stable and extremely fast
Review: I never knew wireless connection can be that stable until I use this router. I had a D-Link 802.11b AP and the connection drops all the time. I thought the wireless was like this.... After using this router, with the same card (802.11b) I have, I found that my D-Link is a piece of junk. This Linksys 54G really rocks. Very good range and I never have any connection drops. Also bought a 54G card, and much faster than my 802.11b card. Some people has doubt about if this router will become a 802.11g router when 802.11g is finalized. Don't be!!! Linksys is no idiot, and it has evaluated different chip sets by different chip makers and get their promised by the future firmware upgrade to become 802.11g standard. Usually those chip maker company has lots of employees in the 802.11g committee. So they know what's going on with 802.11g standard, and it is almost finalized. Even if there's any changes, it can be done in firmware (software). I believe you will definitely get a firmware upgrade to become a real 802.11g router. Think in another way, some people bought the so-called 802.11b+ 22Mbps wireless stuff. Well...there's no way that 22Mbps will become a standard, and people still buy it. Why? ... For the same amount of money, why not get a faster one? And now it's even better. For same amount of money, you get 54Mbps, and in just a few months, you can get a upgrade to become a real IEEE 802.11g standard. Why not? As for the card, the 54G card works with all 802.11b router. So you can still use that card in Starbucks, airport, .... This is it!!! A definite must-buy.

Summary: A good buy
Review: I agree with some of the prior comments, Amazon delivered it ahead of schedule, was quite thrilling. I was challenged by my wife and daughter that I am going to spend sleepless nights to get this configured, I guess they were disappointed. I was trying to get this device to work with a WMP11 802.11b wireless PCI card, D-Link Air wireless laptop PCMCIA card and a wired desktop to the router. Overall the wired connectivity and the laptop connectivity with the D-Link was a breeze. However the connectivity with the desktop WMP11 device was not as smooth. The desktop has a Windows ME OS and although the configuration utility indicated the presence of the router, it could not connect. The Linksys tech support after hours was totally useless and they could not help me out. Later I reset the router (by pressing the button on the rear) and voila the desktop connected to the router. Overall this router has a very easy install through the web utility. I have not had a chance to try out a wireless connectivity beyond 11MBs. Guess need to buy a 802.11g device for the laptop next (my wife is going to kill me)!!
