Summary: Unstable, unreliable, and incompatible! Stay with BEFW11S4
Review: I sold my BEFW11S4 and bought this, thinking that I would upgrade my home network one piece at a time. This was a HUGE mistake! It only worked with 1 (out of 3) of my 802.11b PC cards, and the signal strength was worse than the BEFW11S4! It consistently dropped my broadband connection, giving me a new IP address every 2 minutes, and did not have "Port Triggering" or "UPnP" options available in the setup menus. I sent this thing back the very next day, and bought the BEFW11S4. It's good be back... Do not buy this until further revisions come out, especially if you're using 802.11b only. Just my $.02

Summary: Absolute Junk
Review: I ordered this with the 54G Notebook card. It is absolute Junk. I have spent 3 weeks trying to get it to work with other 802.11b devices. Linksys tech support is clueless. This product was released before they were even notified about it. Today I received a new laptop and tried to use it with the 54G notebook card. Nothing. It never recognized the card, Ever!!! It is the same thing that was happening with all of the other 802.11b devices I tried to use. After 4 hours on the phone with tech support today, it has become clear that it does not support even the Linksys G standard devices it was made to work with. So I am getting rid of this thing. I would really like to use it as a door stop or a boat anchor, but I think I can return it for a full refund. Returning the 54G notebook card as well.Here is a kicker for ya! I went out and bought a LinkSys 802.11b notebook card. It fired up right away, however, it dropped connection after a few minutes and I am now unable to recover it. The only thing that has consistently worked is a Siemens 802.11B USB wireless device. It stayed up almost an hour before it was dropped and now I can't get that to work either. Needless to say after spending nearly 10 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support over the past 3 weeks, I will never buy Linksys again. This product was released before it was ready. At least you would expect the core advertised features to work. Not this time. They had to be first to market, well they may pay for it as once loyal customers are feeling like they took it in the shorts. Goodbye Linksys. I cannot purchase your products anymore!

Summary: Awesome
Review: This product is awesome. I use this with my PC laptop and Mac Powerbook. Both have connection at the same time. It works perfect and setup was quite easy. I haven't check on the range yet as I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. I do wonder how other reviewers can determine they get about 48 to 54 mbs connection? Is that true that we don't even get that speed from cable modem or dsl?

Summary: New Wireless Router falls WAY Short
Review: When I purchased the Linksys Wireless Router, I thought I would be getting a quality product that had undergone extensive testing. Much to my surprise, the device will not work with any non-linksys wireless NIC's. Customer Support tells me they are working on a fix, but cannot give me a date when it will be available. To me, this is a poor way of doing business, and I would not recommend this product until they get their act together.

Review: For an item that is not even available in Best Buy and the other major stores when I went to buy it, the fact that ... has these in and out of stock, and that I received it in only a couple of days is knowledge enough to make this a winning situation.
What about hookup and use? Another 5 star performance. Having never hooked up a wireless network before, I took the advice of the quick start guide that came with the unit, and used their included CD. They strongly recommended that you use the CD rather than manually configure, and they were right. Having seen the problems that some others were having with setup, only to be resolved (some of them) by exactly following the directions, I decided to do it that way right out of the box. I'm glad I did. This setup using the CD was about as easy as learning how to open a refrigerator door for the first time. Shutting off what they tell you to shut off, and turning on what and when they tell you to turn things on, resulted in a delightful install. Not even one glitch. The CD determined my internet connection, determined my system configuration, asked me a few questions, and bingo I was up and running.
I bought the PC Card for laptops as well, and that was just as easy to install. Within 10 minutes I was surfing the web from all over the house. No Wires !
Pertaining to the speed issue: I got 54Mps while I was in the same room. When I went into the living room, it went to very good instead of excellent, and gave me 37Mbps. Let's get a perspective here. A standard modem works at 56K tops. This router works at 54Mbps that's megabyte not kilobyte. Their are 1000 kilobytes in every megabyte. So 54 Megabytes per second is about a thousand times faster than a standard modem. I hooked the Linksys wireless router up to a broadband connection which is running at a maximum of 700 plus Kilobytes on the download end, and 100 to 150 upload speed. I know I am getting specific, but the point I am making is that it does not matter what the connection speed you are running at any given moment, based on how close the base unit is to the PC card. What is important is that your internet connection will never even approach the speed capabilities of this router, so don't hassle yourself with any concerns over varying connect speeds of the wireless network.
Broadband hooked up to this wireless setup flies. As soon as you click on a site, it appears on the screen.
Anyhow, just for reference, I am using a Dell Inspiron Notebook, hooked up to the broadband cable modem that was supplied by Comcast. The operating system is Windows XP. Installation was as near automatic as can be. They do supply instructions when using Windows ME, 98 etc, that includes one more step than XP.
All in all this is a 5 star piece of equipment. Follow the directions exactly. It is easy. Hope this helps.

Review: I have windows XP with a netgear 802.11b card. When the router did not work linksys told me that it was the card. When my Netgear card worked fine on a different vendors wireless network, and a Cisco card I borrowed did not work with the Linksys router, the run around started. After 7 hours on hold or explaining networking to user support at Linksys, I was told that many people are having the same problem I have, it is a 50/50 chance of working with non linksys 54G cards. He then told me that they don't test with other vendors cards and it may not have been tested at 802.11b at all. I have to wait 1 week to see if the new firmware will work. Do not buy this product. It will probably work if you have a Linksys card, but then why do we push so hard for standards if a company can put a product like this on the market. **UPDATE**
The firmware upgrade on the web site worked great. Now my 802.11b card works great and I get coverage throughout the house. I still am very disappointed with the tech support.

Summary: speed and easy
Review: Got this up and running out of the box in about an hour after having used the quickstart guide unsuccessfully. When I used the install CD it worked!
I have a 3 level home and the router is in the basement. I'm getting between 20 and 40 Mbps depending on whether the laptop is on the upper or middle level. That is awesome!
Did notice that with WEP encryption turned on there is some degradation in signal...not too bad though. When I think how much effort I saved not having to run multiple CAT- 5 cable I can hardly keep from jumping....buy it.

Summary: wrt54g linksys router
Review: great router for use in home-based and small business ienvironment. Have used the item since it first came available and have found it to be reliable as well as safe from extental intrusion. An inexpensitive way to protect systems benind the router's firewall.

Summary: Very Fast and esy to get going
Review: After being a happy owner of linksys router for several years, I order this router and one g card the day it's available. I got it to work within 10 minutes using all the defaults and the quick installation guides on my VAIO running XP. Well prior experience sure helps here in getting the router configured via the web interface. It takes another couple hours to get my self familar with the technology, i.e., RTFM. Here are a couple things you definitely need to do to lock it down unless you want to be an ISP for your neighbors :) (1) First it is wide open using the default. Change the SSID to something else other than linksys and turn off the broadcasting of SSID. (2) Enable 128 bit WEP fast. (3) Lock down the mac address so only your g (or b...) cards can talk to the router. (4) While at it, you may as well change the channel. Other than these, I am very happy with it. Have fun surfing....

Summary: Works Great-Service good
Review: I just finished installing my 802.11g network. The router installed easily on my xp machine, and another windows 98, with only one little glitch. The pc card went in well, again with only one little glitch. The two phone calls took awhile, but the two different techs were very knowledgeable, and solved both problems with only one call. Im writting this from my kitchen table. Speeds are good. You just need to be aware of walls etc which will slow down or block the signal somewhat. Im very happy so far-and the Linksys tech support is 24/7...
