Rating: Summary: Works for me Review: I have an older PC, an older Mac, a PowerBook G3 and DSL. The WRT54G was up and running out of the box with no changes to the defaults other than setting up the security. After upgrading the firmware, the router lost connection a few times until I reset back to the defaults. Seems to be working correctly now. Hopefully a firmware upgrade will enable UPnP for AOL IM??
Rating: Summary: Work with LAN, Apple Airport Card, and 802.11g card mixed Review: I just got the product today. I set up and had in running in less than 15 minutes (might be because I used Linksys 4-port router before and the setting is pretty much the same). My network provider is Cox.net which requires you to enter "cox.net" in host name and possibly the domain name also. I also use the "MAC address cloning", since it is recommended with the older wired 4-port router.Just like the older Linksys 802.11b wireless router, you need to enter WEP key in the format of "$" followed by your 26 Hex key generated by the admin utitity in order to make it work with Apple Airport Card (802.11b). I found out one glitch before updating the firmware that MSN messenger won't work on the Airport card but I can browse internet using browser just fine. This problem was gone after updating firmware to the newest version. Another setting with Linksys Wireless-G card is no-brainer. It was quick and simple. I think it is one of the product that works great with Apple Wireless solution and saves you a lot of money instead of having to buy that "Airport Extreme" base.
Rating: Summary: What happened? Review: Setup was OK but despite claims that it works with existing 802.11b networks it doesn't, I get less range now than I did with just the 802.11b network - be careful.
Rating: Summary: Up and runnung in less than a minute Review: Works great for me. I had to configure a couple of settings since I had changed my router's IP address to something other than 192.168.1.1. Otherwise, if your router has a 192.168.1.x address then just plug the WAP54G into it and it works. My PowerBook G4 saw it immediately. I have an older 802.11b card in the laptop so I haven't been able to take advantage of the g speed but so far it works fine with the older card. Even though it is plug-and-play and works as soon as you connect it, you will probably want to take the time to set up encryption, change the name of the WAP from the default of "linksys", etc... Signal range is good so far, haven't done much extensive testing yet though. Overall a great access point.
Rating: Summary: Excellent product Review: I recently purchased this router along with the WPC54G notebook adapter. Setup was easy. Router is in my computer room upstairs, and I get an 80% signal strength downstairs in my living room. Performance is a little lower than I expected. About 15.7 megabits per second throughput with encryption enabled. Overall, very good product.
Rating: Summary: fine performance.... Review: for those that have been having problems with non-linksys hardware, new firmware is out as of 1/29/03 which should fix many issues. for me, the beauty here is that 802.11G hardware will dumbdown to work on an 802.11B network (cafe's and other hotspots). i could care less if 802.11B technology works on my G network.
Rating: Summary: Simply The Best Review: I got this today and the PC card receiver and had it up and running in no time. Amazon delivered very quickly - much sooner in fact than they said it would take. Within 15 minutes it was up and running. I love wireless and I totally recommend this fine product.
Rating: Summary: Great Product @ a great price !!!!! Review: Purchased the new Linksys Wireless-G router and PCMCIA card yesterday ( 2/2/03 ) and had it working in about 10 minutes. Replaced my old Linksys Cable/DSL router with the new Wireless-G router and so far I am extremely impressed with the performance for the price. For a average computer enthusiast, installation was extremely easy. Just make sure you disable SSID broadcasting, change your SSID, & enable WEP. So far, the range is pretty good, I have a 2300 sq/foot 2-story house and was able to roam in every area of the house. The only time the signal was lost was from outside of the house. The only thing I have not tested was interference with other 2.4 ghz devices ( ie: Phones ), hopefully that will go pretty well. Bottom line: I highly recommend this product for a home/office wireless network.
Rating: Summary: A Great Product!!! Review: This router is one of the best on the market today, i have done some research on the net and found that this is one of the more cheaper wireless routers! It is only a good $$$ but it has great speed! When i first opened the box i was so excited to put it together to see how it would work. Well to make the long story short I did what the instructions told me to do and it was very easy to do! Then after all that (took maybe 10 min.) it worked! I hope you take some time to look at this new linksys wireless G router, i think after you use it you will love it! Good luck to all who want a good deal and a great product, buy it!
Rating: Summary: works very well with one basic flaw Review: This unit works as described, with one exception - I cannot get it to work with my older Linksys 802.11b PCMCIA card. I stayed on the phone with Linksys support for an hour, and they could not resolve the problem (although they were pleasant and did help me try many things to resolve it). I finally ended up buying the 802.11g PCMCIA card from Linksys and I am now very happy. The signal strength seems better than my older WAP11, and the firewall configuration offers much more flexibility than my older Linksys firewall. I would recommend this product, but only if you are planning to buy an 802.11g card as well.
