Summary: Great product!
Review: Note: I don't know if any of these "reviewers" have even checked for the updated firmware on Linksys' website. The new firmware version (currently 1.41) fixes a lot of the reported issues mentioned on this website. Linksys does not ship its routers with the updated firmware as it costs too much to recall every single router in all the stores just to flash to the newest version.

Anyways this product has a great range. I currently have two 802.11b adapters and a 802.11g adapter and they perform excellent in my environment. Quite amazing because my house is literred with 2.4ghz phones. Also I have 3 computers using the "wired" ports. All devices seemlessy interact with each other. Of course transfers are a little slower to any of the wireless devices (excluding the 802.11g device). I have had no connection drops and the unit is a lot colder than my previous router (the BEFSR41W). My old router used to warm up a lot but this one doesn't suffer from that issue.

I definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to buy an excellent router backed with excellent support. Unlike many other companies Linksys updates their firmware quite often with new features.

Summary: Hooked on this router~!
Review: My initial reason for buying this router was to "test" wireless routers. My plan was to try all wireless routers since I want the best coverage w/ the max. speed. This linksys wireless router was my first buy and I'm hooked~! I didn't bother trying out any other routers.

The setup took less than 5 mins. Using the installation CD is the BEST way. After the configuration, I was able to surf the web wirelessly immediately. The coverage is incredible. I placed the router in my basement where the office is at. I am able to get 80% signal strength on the second floor~! I am surprised that this router perform so well considering that I live in one of those colonial style houses where the house tends to have higher ceiling. In addition, I was able to get connection in some parts of my back yard and front yard. So, I am able to enjoy the sun while surfing the web~!

Overall, I am very satisfied with this router and consider my [money]well spent. I would recommand anyone who wishes for a wireless network to try it.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: Had this router up and running in 30-45 minutes. I have networked 1 wired Mac, 1 wired PC and 1 wireless Mac.
I used the manual instructions, not the CD. It is important that you do your homework ahead of time and have the information from your ISP on hand. Also read the directions 3 or 4 times so that you understand each step and follow them precisely. I happen have an ISP that uses a PPPoA system which can be a problem. This router set up very easily.

Summary: good WAP router
Review: Hardware: casing isn't the best, overall good hardware though.

Firmware: upgrade from WAP immediately. if you think the included firmware is secure, then change what you put in your coffee, and on your toast ;-O ;-} :))

Setup: actually very easy for intermediate or experienced modem/router users. there is no "easy setting" because there shouldn't be. if you cannot set up a router this simple, get help (don't be ashamed to ask for help, I've needed lots of help from lots of people, namely, my boss, my anger management instructor and my shrink ;) also get a good software firewall. Kerio Personal Firewall is good, AtGuard (before Symantec f**ked it up) is/was good, and so is BlackIce (certain versions, though detailed setup is required, again, that's a GOOD thing-NOT a weakness.

Cisco/Linksys - related items:
their cable modems are good, but not the best, and certainly not the most favored by all ISPs, but still good.
their routers are great, and cards are awesome, too.

DLink is on the verge of being good, but has many kinks to work out, avoid it for the time being. Otherwise I would also recommend them. Most other companies I won't even discuss. Surprisingly Intel has good NICs, especially onboard chipsets, but I'm not too excited about some of their products (tainted by personal opinion, disregard, lol...)

A recap of my main beefs: though support could always be better with most companies, I haven't needed theirs, so I cannot rate it. The product itself though is good quality (overall) and easy to use (hey, I f**kin' did it in under an hour (I'm slow and my work is tedious, I'm a detail freak) without swearing or vodka, and I've been counseled on my use of both)

Summary: Great features, excellent web support!
Review: I've used Linksys products at work(I'm a System Admin)and home for years. I've compared most of the main players and would only suggest Linksys or Netgear, both for product performance and web support(updates). I use the WRT54G piggybacked onto a Linksys Etherfast Router thru cable modem. This gives me two independent networks. I've used both Linksys(G)cards and no-name 802.11b cards together with no performance hit, some reviews report the unit goes down to 802.11b speed in mixed environment,I get both working at their supported speeds.
Recommendations:
1:Keep up with firmware updates, they are easy to do.
2:Understand you will get a performance hit with advanced security options, for most folks changing the SSID name, remove the SSID broadcast, use MAC filtering, and limit DHCP clients to number of computers on network will suffice.
3:Folks reporting problems have not gone thru proper troubleshooting procedures, outside of hardware failures, which is covered under warranty, understand the technology and do your homework if you want to get into more advanced features, you can get it so locked up you can not use it,reset it and start over if you do,a simple procedure.
The Linksys WRT54G works well, has all the features you will ever need and web support is excellent.

Summary: The most frustrating computer experience I've ever had
Review: I bought this product from an big box electronics retailer, and I sure wish I had seen the reviews here before I threw away the money.
This is a not a product for people who don't want to learn all the gory details of wireless networking. The documentation is pitiful- written in technical jargon for people who already know what the jargon means. All I wanted to do was to connect to the internet using my new laptop with its built-in wireless capability. You would think that might be covered in the 'documentation', but it isn't.
Using the auto install disk, I managed to get it to work for a few minutes, but it wouldn't work consistently. If I turned off either computer in my home network, the only way it would work again was to reset the router and re-install. Also, the wireless adapter in my Toshiba laptop warned me that I was using an unsecure connection. I followed Linksys' advice regarding security settings, and then things got much worse. After about twelve hours of struggle to get it working consistently, the power light began to blink, it stopped working and the only suggestion from Linksys was to upgrade the firmware. Unfortunately, the upgrade process required the device to be working!
I also have to confirm what others have said here- don't even bother with the telephone support. I could not understand more than about 60% of what the representative in India was asking, but it didn't matter. It was clear that he did not understand what I was trying to achieve- he was just filling out a form on his computer.
I'll certainly never buy another Linksys product, and it sure makes me wonder what Cisco is thinking of. I've lost a lot of respect for them after this fiasco.

Summary: Bad Experience
Review: Purchased this router to set up a home network with a new laptop. On the box I took comfort in the advertised 24/7 customer support. I had trouble configuring the network and establishing the advertised security features. I called the customer support 800 number. My call went to India. I had allot of trouble understanding what the support tech was saying. In the end, the call was useless as the tech took the position that as long as each computer could access the internet there was no issue with the router. I'm now at a loss for setting up my system and am contemplating return of the unit.

Summary: WPA security support. Great range.
Review: I am using this AP/router with the Linksys WPC54G PC card on a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP. I did not use the set-up CD-ROM but used the web based application to configure it. Since my ISP uses PPoE I had to fill in my user name(with domain name) and password. Also my ISP gave me DNS numbers to fill in under the DHCP settings even though I have my TCP/IP settings for the connection set to "Obtain automatically". Basically that's all there is to configuring the router-ISP connection. The order that the modem, router and computers are turned on is VERY important. If you can't connect after configuration go through the power-on cycle again in that order. Configuring the security, however, is another matter.

Linksys supports the newer more secure WPA security protocol. There is new firmware for the router and a new driver for the card from the Linksys site. Both installed easily. Nowhere in the instructions or on their web site will you find how to configure WPA, though they have supported it since May. Since WEP 128 is almost useless for protecting against specific attacks to your network I strongly recommend using WPA. On the router and the card you will need to use "WPA-PSK" (Pre-Shared Key) not just the "WPA" option which is also available. For encryption use TKIP. The key can be anything from 8-63 characters in length. A Group Renewal key can be set for 0-99,999 seconds. I set it to 0. WPA-PSK uses part of the IEEE 802.1x authentication and so this authentication will be enabled and greyed out by default. Under the IEEE 802.1x authentication use PEAP for the EAP type unless you have a smart card for authentication. Also uncheck both boxes for "authenticate as computer when ...." and "authenticate as guest when ....." As is often stated, change the SSID and don't broadcast it and use MAC filtering for added security.

For the price (including the Linksys rebate) this router with all it's features (though hidden) is hard to beat.

Summary: Product works as expected...Very Very Poor Customer Service
Review: I bought this product knowing little about wireless routers and its functions. I had a D-Link DI-524 and upgraded my network (2 PCs, a latop and a Xbox system). No problems with installing the new router, the setup was working good but then I came across a DNS server issue and tried to get support in how to troubleshoot the problem.

My call was sent overseas and I cannot begin to tell you the problems with customer support. My advice to the Linksys people is to get people who can communicate effectively regardless of the language barriers. Its frustrating to the customers and its unnecessary stress for the people overseas.

3 stars for the product

Summary: Great but Westell modem users read more...
Review: This is a great product and I won't rant on the positives BUT:

I use a Westell modem. Basically, it is a router, and so is this, so they bump heads and the internet goes crazy!!! I had to go http://www.dslreports.com/faq/9688" here to get help on how to fix it. note that this guide is for bellsouth users, but search their site for "Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router" and you should be able to find the "fix"

Once everything was up and running, it works great! It has great security features that you REALLY should use (128 bit WEP encription, mac address filtering, and turning off SSID broadcast)

GET IT!!!!
