Summary: New to a wireless world......
Review: I was new to the wireless world, when i first looked into a wireless router. This router was incredibly easy to set up, especially as I am still pretty new to computers. After setting up though, i would find that intermittently i would lose the connection to my laptop. My laptop, as well as others would read a signal from the router, but the internet would be down. I have now found that whenever this does occur, to reset the router by unplugging power from the router, and then replugging it back. So far this has always resolved the problem, a little annoying, but again problem resolved.Overall though, I am happy with this router, and i think at this price, you can't beat it.

Summary: Good product.....disappointed no rebate!!
Review: Have used the router for about six months and working great! However, bought the router primarily due to the C$60 rebate which I have still not received. The rebate centre indicated that it was sent out 10 weeks ago, but I called them several times now and they keep having different excuses about the delay. Looks like they are giving me the run around and I have doubts whether they will honour the rebate. They have indicated that Netgear is no longer in business and I was wondering if anyone is aware that this is the case.

Summary: Too many drops
Review: The setup of this product was super easy. The biggest problem is that the wireless connection drops like crazy, every minute or so, even though the signal is rated excellent (the laptop actually sits next to the router). The fixed line desktop doesn't experience this problem.

Summary: Quick, easy, has all the basic's.
Review: Apparently, there are several version of this router running around. I got the MR814NA (the NA being the difference), and was VERY pleased by what I found. I previously had a Netgear MR102 access point behind my Linux-based firewall. The 814 dramatically improved the range over the old gear. The 128-bit WEP was good. The router instantly understood my ISP; by the time I tried to run the setup wizard, it was already done and ready to go. I have a laptop using the Netgear 401 card, a desktop also using the same card, and a Toshiba E740 PocketPC with WiFi. All worked flawlessly with the 814. A few things I changed on the wireless: I told it not to broadcast my SSID (an improvement over the 102). I added 128-bit WEP. I haven't yet MAC-restricted it, although I'll probably do that pretty quickly. The 814 will also automatically e-mail it's security log when full, and it will instantly e-mail you if someone tries to visit a site that you've forbidden in the firewall. It even has time-sensitive restrictions. I have a large house; with my ME102, I couldn't get everywhere; with this device I can. I put it in my basement: while I want it to reach everywhere in my house, I don't want it to go beyond. You can't get see the signal from the street (unless you use a Pringle's-can antenna), so I feel pretty good about the balance of reach and security. The web management interface is very clean and intuitive with few surprises. By profession, I'm a network engineer; for the SOHO market, this is an exceptional little device, especially when you can get it for around $40 (the price on Amazon at the time of writing). I've already recommended it to several friends, who have bought it and like it.

Summary: Does what it advertises
Review: I'm running a network of 3 Windows machines at home (1 XP and 2 W98SE) and I'm connected to the internet with a cable modem with RoadRunner as my ISP. The setup was very easy and the router performs as expected. I've had it for a week now and I haven't had to reboot it yet. I tested the performance of the internet connection with and without the router and it had not changed at all. The online documentation is very detailed and useful in order to setup the security features for the wireless network. Good product and excellent value. By the way, even though the "version 2" of the router has been out for some time, Amazon sent me the "version 1" (I ordered on Oct 28, 2003). I couldn't find anywhere what the difference is between the two versions. Version 1 works fine for me.

Summary: Doesn't work with AOL for OS X or Macintosh OS X
Review: This is a quick wireless router that works fine with PC's but doens't work well with OS X Jaguar & Panther (10.2 & 10.3). It also will NOT sign-on to AOL with a BYOA program using a cable modem TCP/IP connection using AOL for OS X. (Does work with PC and AOL 9.0 fine). I upgraded the firmware to 5.021b and it didn't help any, and the fact that I couldn't download the firmware from NetGear's own website using a Mac with OS X has shown me that the problem is with NetGear and not AOL. The forums all say it's NetGear's fault, and I can't wait for a firmware update, so it's a Linksys for me I guess. I already mailed the rebate, so no return to Amazon, such a bummer of a deal and gigantic waste of my time and effort.

Summary: Worked as advertised, but I goofed up
Review: This router worked just as advertised for me, after I corrected some of my goof ups in settings and as a networking newbie, I did not know Zone alarm would not allow communication between my 2 computers on the wireless network for sharing of files and printers until I set it to allow the communication. I learned the hard way, hope this helps someone from pulling out there hair as I was. I was about to blame it all on the router and adapter and box them up and send them back to Amazon. I am at this moment satisfied with the Netgear equipment. It is not the fastest or top of the line, but it suits my needs which are minimal. As long as I can share printer and files and internet connection, I am happy.

Summary: Good but maybe too technical
Review: Wireless technology has come to my house and I love it, I can access my PC with my laptop while watching tv, eating lunch and everything. I can't compare this to any other wireless routers because this is the only one I have used but I have to say its great. It looks good too, It was easy to set up too, you don;t need a degree in computer engineering to figure it out. SOme of the features I don't like, but thats personal to me, I don't like the websites I visit to be recorded, and if you get pop ups it says you visited the site when you didn't. I would really recommend buying this though, its a top notch piece of kit.

Summary: It doesn't disconnect from the wireless constantly
Review: Previous to this, I had bought a d-link router which no matter how many times I flashed its firmware, would just constantly connect and disconnect anything hooked into its network, even if the computer was right next to the router. Initially this router did that, but then I upgraded its firmware, and it got better. Then I upgraded its firmware to the beta version available on their website and no longer had problems with things disconnecting.
I haven't tested it's range 'cause I'm using it in an apartment.
