Summary: Great product very easy to intall
Review: Excellent product, very good look and feel. Very easy to install just connect to the Cable Modem, turn on and voilĂ . For the router settings I connected trough the wireless connection without problem, setup WEP and everything is working without any problem. I installed it in less than 5 minutes.

Summary: Great value!
Review: Just got my wireless router today and it was up and running in no time, as expected. My Optimum Online connection worked immediately, since it's just DHCP, and my Vonage phone service worked flawlessly.
Just to comment on other reviews made on this product:
1) You *can* turn off the wireless feature. Just go into Setup, Wireless Settings, and uncheck Enable Wireless Access Point.
2) I could not get AOL for OS X working either, but it is not Netgear's fault. It is AOL's fault. Apparently their OS X client has issues connecting through any router using NAT (firewall), as I had this same problem with my old Linksys 4-port wired router. AOL had me create a new network location earlier this year, and blamed the OS. Go figure. AOL worked fine before I put in the router, and from other posts on the web, it only happens with the OS X client. Setting the Default DMZ Server to the IP of my Mac allowed AOL to connect with no problems, but this leaves my computer completely exposed to the Internet.

Summary: Easy and powerful control
Review: I figured since I was bloging about this purchase anyway, I'll put a copy here:

It was an extremely easy setup. Within 20 minutes I had my connection set up, encrypted, SSID hidden, the MAC address of the card registered and running around checking signal strength all over the house and on the patio. It did however take me a couple of tries to figure out how to properly set up the WEP keys so I could simply swap my single wireless card from one laptop to another; it works great now.

It's a wonderfully easy user interface with a host of features. You have tremendous control over the IP addresses, logs and access.
For example, if you had a kid with a computer in their room and didn't want them to be online after midnight, you could set the router to block that particular connection from 12 - 5 AM. You can even block specific ports, not just IPs. Or you could block sites by domain or keyword.
Also, there is an access log with ability to automatically send it out via e-mail when it is full or at predefined time intervals.

But the greatest advantage that I found over my old wired Linksys is that you can mix DHCP and static IPs. Previously, when I was running a Linux box for my web sever I had to create a virtual server so it would have a static IP for forwarding port 80 to. With this Netgear router I can just specify a static IP based on the MAC address of the server.

The wireless connection has only given me trouble once so far. It started intermittently fading out. I had to switch over to a wired connection rather than try to troubleshoot it because I was in the middle of doing something for work. Too bad VPN kicks out when you switch NICs.

Summary: Wireless
Review: This product is very good but the mail in rebate is BS. I never received anything and I mailed the rebate coupon several months ago.

Summary: Router works well...but DON'T EXPECT TO SEE THE REBATE
Review: Title says it all. My experience with the router has been completely positive. I'm still now 20 weeks into getting the rebate....had to call and ask for it after 16 weeks .... now the 'www.wheresmyrebate.com' says its mailed....but of course three weeks later its not here. No matter how good the product this is NOT WORTH THE HASSLE unless you enjoy being stiffed.

Summary: Centrino users take note - UPDATED
Review: ORIGINAL REVIEW: I purchased mine a few days ago with a Gateway 200 Centrino notebook. Set-up was a breeze with all my computers in my LAN.
Nevertheless, my Centrino notebook kept on loosing connection. Tried several things and noticed there was a firmware update in the Netgear web site which fixes connectivity issues with Centrinos. Downloaded it, upgraded the router and it works well now.
If it would of not presented this "issue" out of the box, I would of probably given it 5 stars.

UPDATE: My Netgear router died after 3 days. There are just too many reviews with DOA. I think the manufacturer should do a much better job at screening infant mortality. I still gave it a couple of stars as the product design is OK and customer service was acceptable.

SUGGESTION: I strongly recommend you stay away from Netgear until they get their act together and get the LINKSYS from CISCO.
I purchased the LINKSYS B router. It is so much sturdier, physically and operational. Just as user friendly as the Netgear and already comes pre-certified for CENTRINO.

Summary: easy setup - works great - good price
Review: I was in the market for setting up a wireless network system at home. The first thing I looked for is a wireless router. The Netgear MR814 perfectly fit my criteria. It is based on the 802.11b protocol that allows 11Mbps data rate. That is more than sufficient for my use. The pricing was attractive too.

It was very easy to set up - worked right out of the box. Getting the security feature to work was also pretty easy. I am using it with the Netgear MA521 notebook card, and I am getting about 75-85% signal strength. My router is stationed on the 2nd floor and I usually use the notebook on the first floor. No problems with dropped packets or interference from other devices so far.

It has been about a month using it, and I am absolutely loving the freedom of accessing the internet from anywhere in the house.

Summary: Workable, but not perfect
Review: I got another Linksys wireless router in the same environment. The signal strength and coverage of Netgear is as good as linksys, but the connection quality is much worse. I got only 75% transmission speed from Netgear, and sometimes the speed will drop and rise again after 1 or 2 seconds. Its wireless performance is not as good as its industorial design. This router indeed has space to improve in its wireless connection quality.

Summary: Defective Out of the Box
Review: Called Support. Couldn't fix it. Referred to a restart button in the back which was inoperable. Very disappointing.

Summary: Working 20 minutes right out of the box
Review: Great shipment time of 6 days from order to door.
I had a Linksys 4 port wired router, thing works just fine, but decided its time for an upgrade to wireless.

Didn't need to install any software, just used the IP Address too configure my DSL. Up surfing and posting my Amazon review 20 minutes later.
