Summary: Amazed at Setup Ease
Review: With five computers in the house, my wife was getting fed up with cables. We needed wireless. But after reading through the many anguished pleas for networking help across the Net, we approached this whole wireless idea with fear and doubt. Our concern was unfounded.

We selected D-Link because their website was so informative. It appeared that their support might be just what a network novice needs.

For a couple of days we delayed getting started with the setup just because of fear. Finally, we sat down with the Install Guide and started with the first step, then step two, etc. Within a surprisingly short time we were finished and everything worked! And it continues to work!

With D-Link's help, we are happy to say that the hardest part of the entire setup process was figuring out how to get the cover off of one of the computers.

We don't know enough yet to be checking speeds or testing range, but we can say that our surfing experience is just as smooth and fast as it was when wired. And we don't have cables on the floor.

We think those who are seeking network help should have visited D-Link.

Summary: D-link DI-624 AirPlus Exterm G
Review: Excellent stuff, very good speed. I have installed it with my desktop, accessing Broadband satellite Internet through my note books every where in my house even outside too.
Very easy to install, firmware upgrades are available.

Summary: Easy install, but the range wasn't good enough
Review: I intended to use the D-Link DI-624 to replace an SMC 802.11b wireless system that was 2 years old. The SMC system worked really well, but it did need to be reset every few days and I wanted whole house coverage. After going through the D-Link's simple installation procedure, I was up and running. Unfortunately, my range was reduced by at least 50% from the SMC's range. I upgraded the firmware and unplugged my cordless phones and still had the same mediocre results.

Summary: Is it suppopsed to be this easy?
Review: I was skeptical of buying this product online because I had made up my mind that it was not going to work and I would have to return it. So I decided to go with Best Buy to make returns easier. Up until a week or two ago, I couldn't even tell you what a router was which tells you how much of a novice I am. I also purchased the D-Link PC Card which was also effortless to install. After installing the card on my laptop, I moved on to installing the router. Most of that time was spent reading the manual because I wanted to make sure I did every step exactly right. During the set up wizard, I did have to make a call to my ISP to find out what kind of connection I have but that was the ONLY tech support call I had to make. 30 minutes later I was up & running. I am very surprised and very pleased.

Summary: Works OK, but reboot problem exists
Review: The router reboots itself unnecessarily. I've isloated the cause of the reboots on my router. When a computer connected with a wired connection, is turned on after being off for a while or when I wake up a wired computer that has been on, but idle for a period of time (by moving the mouse), the router automatically reboots. This seems to be a major flaw in either the firmware or hardware of this router! There are many reports of self-reboots on the internet for this router. If you are simply using PCs in the house for surfing the internet, the reboots may not trouble you. But, if you are using a VPN connection, this may mean having to do a manual reconnect. Worse yet, if you are using a VOIP phone, and are in the middle of a conversation, your phone call will drop.

When the router is up, it seems to perform just fine, although the administration screens for the router could use some better human factors design.

But, I recommend you don't get this router until you read consistent reports of the reboot problems being cleared up.

Summary: Very bad product from D-Link
Review: I consider my self to be an advanced computer user with very good knowledge of hardware and networking equipment setup. This is an extremely bad product by D-link. This router performed completely opposite to what it is advertised ... I am surprised that it was CNET Editor's choice. I used this router to share a cable modem with 3 wired PC's and two wireless laptops. One laptop had Cisco Airport Wireless adaptor and other had D-Link Xtreme G, DWL-G650 adaptor.

Following were the problems I had with it:

1. The setup procedure does not help.
2. The wireless and wired network could not communicate with each other or simultaneously.
3. Wireless network was very difficult to setup.
4. The speed was hardly 54Mbps, but mostly just above 11 Mbps which is 802.11b.
5. Range was very poor.
6. Wireless network encryption does NOT work and could work only without it.
7. Does NOT work with other Network switch, u must connect PCs thru' router's switch.
8. I upgraded the firmware also but could not get advertised 108Mbps speeds inspite of using D-link DWL-G650 adaptor.
9. To top it all router reboots very often ... almost once every hour.
10: D-link has released many versions of the router A,B & C u must check D-link's site to find which gives 108Mbps and what u r buying.

In short this router is just a piece of junk or somehow my router was defective. I suggest not to buy it. I returned it and bought a Linksys which is just great.

Summary: Keep dropping my internet connection
Review: It is fine when I use wireless w/o wep encryption. (although when I transfer files between two computers using this router, wireless lan is disconnected after few MB of transfer)
I can surf web for long, and play counter strike w/o much of lag.
But when I enable 64bits wep (128bits also available), it drop my connection after few minutes.
So it keep ask me if I want to connect to available wireless network every 2~3minutes.
And Of course, if I was downloading some files, then I get disconnected. I had to re-download that again.

I can use it w/o wep enabled, but I don't want other people stealing my bandwidth, so I'm going to return this and pay $20 more to get linksys

Summary: what you get is not what you have paid for.
Review: This is another example
when what you get is not what you have paid for.

I have just returned linksys WRT54G
Because their firmware does not work with VPN and GRE 47 protocol. So I could not establish VPN connection with internal machines.

Today received DI-624 from amazon
this one does not work with vpn too.

You can not find any information on the dlink web site.

I recommend this product for those that want to spend entire week on the phone with the technical support rather then surfing internet.

This is ridiculous and I do not understand how they got
c|net editor's choice for the product that does not work as expected.

I have tested G-turbo and results are not as expected.

Two weeks ago I have returned DWL-AG650 which had a problem with overheating.

I am tired with buying and returning stuff. and this is why I give dlink one *.

Summary: Poor documentation, short range
Review: I bought this router and the dwl-g650 pc card because I wanted more mobility in my house and to get free of those blue wires when working with my laptop. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I probably do not live in an "average" house (as referred in the documentation). There's no place where I can sit the router in a way to get my whole house covered. It is true that the walls are made of brick... And with the house built like an L, it is not possible to have all rooms in clear or straight view from the router. Conclusion, to get a signal in the bedroom, I loose it in the TV room, etc. etc.

After having spent a good deal of time experimenting with different placements for the router, my conclusions are: 1. you get 108Mbps if in the same room and not very far from the antenna; 2. the link will work fine if you do not have more than a couple of (brick) walls between you and the router; 3. anything more than that will give you an instable connection, that may or may not work depending on very careful positioning of the receiving card.

When close enough, I managed to send and receive large files at pretty high rates (close to 2MB per second for large file transfers). So, my impression is that if you live in a small place, with thin walls, this may be of help. Otherwise, forget it.

The other problem was configuration. My ADSL modem works as a router and I already have 2 other computers hardwired in a network. I spent many hours in D-Link's site to find out how to set up the DI-624 so that I could see the rest of the network. Finally, I found out I should not use the WAN port, that DHCP should be disabled, and that the IP no. should be in my modem's range. The solution is not in the manual, it's not in the quick guide, it's not in the faq's, but buried deep in the knowledge base. This is the case for almost everything that is not the pretty obvious. For instance, the manual won't help at all when it comes to encryption.

My final problems were with the card, but these I'll tell somewhere else.
