Summary: Poor Range
Review: I purchased my DI-624 in August. The power supply adapter failed within three days. I had it replaced, but I could not check the wireless capabilities until my laptop returned from repair (Long story...bad summer) The laptop arrived last week and I started to configure the router. Decided I should get the firmware for the router updated to the G stndard. This was when I discovered the first problem. D-Link has manufactured three different hardware versions of the same model!!! As y luck would have it, I have hardware version "A". The latest available firmware upgrade dates back to April. The other Hardware versions are updated and also include the WPA features. D-Link Tech support could not give me any idea when or even if they intend to continue supporting the "A" HW version. Check with the people at AMAZON before purchasing and make sure you get a supported HW Version. Allegedly a "D" verison is in the works also. I have a problem with a company that keeps the same model number for their products even though they go through extensive redesigns. (The "C" version is a much smaller unit than the "A" or "B". Anyway, back to the laptop, I could get the laptop to connect to the router, but reception was poor and ithe connection could not be maintained. I was only about 30 feet away from the router. Since the initial connection, my laptop has not been able to connect. I get a decent signal on my staus for the network card, but I can't cruise the net or even access the routers settings page wirelessly. It's been a very frustrating experience and Tech Support has been no help. If I were to do it again, I would buy Netgear.

Summary: Awesome Range
Review: I didn't think my wireless network would reach outside my home, but it does with this as my access point. I can actually sit outside and be on my laptop. I like this feeling.

The speeds I get are great. It feels just like I am wired to my network. Pages load at the same speed and downloads are just as fast.

The web based administration method is a good convienence as well. Very easy to setup, almost installs itself out of the box.

Summary: Solid and Reliable
Review: All 5 of our computers are connected wirelessly to this one AP/router. We are barely on all at the same time, but when we are this thing can handle it. I like it because I can implement some parental controls to keep some of that filth out of my childrens view. Of course I can't block it all, but this router does help. The security works great, the setup is easy, and the managment is simple. We all can get good to fair signal strength with our DWL-G650 in any part of the house. We haven't had any dropped wireless connections since the install. Overall this is a perfect router/AP for those with 11G capabilities.

Summary: A Promising Network Backbone
Review: So far I've been able to get this working within about 30 minutes. I didn't need to call tech support because the manual and quick install guide answered my questions. I am now conencted to my SBC Yahoo DSL with very fast speeds. Even with wireless I get blazing speeds.

This was also the first time I had experience with wireless networking. I've read some articles to prepare myself, but that's about it. But D-Link helped with the setup wizard that guides you through the setup, plus the manual which helps explain things a little better.

Overall I am very satisfied and would suggest this DI-624 and a DWL-G650 if you have a laptop and DSL conenction you want to share.

Summary: Exercise in patience...
Review: Unlike my former D-704 router the case is plastic and it only weights about 1/3 of the weight and is pretty fragile. The web based setup is very straight forward for simple configurations, more complex ones take a little time because of overuse of "ok" splash panels in the UI.

The big problem for me is that it simple will not route! I use an Alcatel ASDL1000 modem and the two will not work together. It is difficult to pinpoint the problem but the modem works fine with my former d-704 router. Now the rub... d-link's technical support is terrible. Let me say that again... the industry's worst.

After close to 10 hours on the phone mostly on hold or as a result of their automated system dropping my connection and then three promised return calls by "senior support staff" that never materialied I've given up. What looked like a promising product is being returned. My friends who were awaiting my review have been steered away and hopefully this review will reach a few more...

Honestly, look at the alternatives which are very similar in technical spec but have much better support -- I think I'm going to purchase the NetGear product now.

Postfix:
Finally (after 10 hours) talked to a level 3 technition. He was helpful and realised I did know what I was doing. Bottom line: It does not work with my Alcatel modem -- Bummer.

Summary: Excellent Signal Range
Review: I set this up in my home office area, which is convieniently located in the middle of the house, but at the same time off to the side of the main portion of the house. I'm not sure if this router gets good range because of the location, the brand, or the adapter card I have in my laptop, but I sure do have a large area of available Internet access now. My entire house is now a hotspot and some parts of the yard out front and back can still get a signal.

The setup for this router was easy and painless. Barely worth mentioning actually. The security options that come with this router are worth mentioning though. With MAC Filters and 128-bit WEP I am sure nobody will be trying to get in my network.

I like this router and access point and am glad D-Llink can make a good solid product, both router and adapter card (G650).

Summary: Tech Support clueless
Review: I called Tech Support and they do not know their product. First they claim that the antenna on the DI624 can not be detached. When confronted with their website saying otherwise they say: "yes it is". Then they refer to pre-sales because "they know" and decline to answer anymore questions.

Summary: just wasn't worth it
Review: Initially the system worked fine, the Network Card connected everytime and the firewall worked great. I had WEP and MAC filtering enabled (at the time the most security I could get for wireless). I took the laptop on a trip, and when I returned, nothing worked. I had to literally strip out all of the security settings and then slowly re-enable them. The laptop would at times drop off the network, not connect, do things that made no sense, since none of the settings had changed. Also their customer support wasn't at times the best of help either, they replied always by email, but it took two-three days for a reply. It just became too frustrating.

Summary: Awful, just awful.
Review: I felt that my Linksys wasn't putting out enough signal, so I decided to try a D-link. The signal problem went away, and that's the only reason I give this thing 2-stars--the signal is MUCH better than the Linksys.

However, better signal doesn't do much good if the router doesn't work correctly!!! I frequently use VPN from home to get into the network at work, and 9/10 times when I try to VPN in, the router gets possessed and reboots itself for no apparent reason. It'll start to log in, and then I look over at the router--all of the lights flash on for a second, then they all turn off, then they all come on again--and my VPN connection is terminated! This never happened with the Linksys.

Also, this router locks up frequently for no given reason. You'll go to use your computer, and...nothing. No response from the router. The only way to fix it is to unplug the power, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in. I emailed their tech support--want to know what they told me? Not much. They copied and pasted the FAQ page from their support page, telling me to try things I already tried, one of them being, "Check your logs. Is there someone causing a lot of traffic on your network? If so, you may want to block that person's I.P." Oh, thank you for the suggestion! Your router doesn't work properly, so I should just kick my users off of it. Brilliant!

Also, the static DHCP feature they added doesn't work right. Everytime I tried to add more than one MAC address to it, the router froze up and wouldn't accept it.

So, I'm going back to the Linksys, and I guess I'm just going to have to install another wireless access point to take care of this range problem. While the range of the Linksys might not be as good, at least the router functions properly! I'd also like to mention that this is the 2nd time I've tried D-link (a different model this time), and I had the same problems with the first one. Until they get the bugs out of these things, I will certainly NOT be buying another one.

Summary: Like a Charm...
Review: I recently installed the DWL-G650 into my two year old laptop equipped with XP. Connected to the cable modem is a 5 year old HP running windows 98 which is also attached to the DI-624 wireless access point. Both my laptop and the PC are getting great speeds; the PC has achieved 1.9Mbs (average about 1.4Mbs) and my laptop 1.6Mbs (1.2Mbs average). Absolutely at the top of my list for the easiest setup for computer "periferals" (sp?) I live in an apartment, so the need for range is not an issue (and I infact havn't tested that aspect) though I doubt the D-Link devices would not do great. Very satisfied.
