Summary: Very, Very Suprised!
Review: This is my third wireless system. The last either had bad reception problems, bad connection problems or just stopped working. They both were SMC systems. They both were small nightmares to get up and running, and of course customer support sucked. I got rid of my last wireless system which was 802.11a which I bought because I thought it was much better. I am not a computer wiz I'll admit that but this technology should be easy for people like me to set up and use. I am who they sell this stuff to.I read reviews and decided to get this system with the D-link DWL-G650. I held my breath when I started setting it up. I was waiting for the minute when I would realize that I would need to call customer support. That didn't happen. This system did almost set itself up. I have a 2.4GHz phone and it doesn't seem to effect the range. I live in a brick house and I just went outside in my driveway, on the other side of house from where my wireless router is set up and I was getting almost 100% full signal strength. The online interface is very easy to use and the instructions are easy to follow. I did upgrade the firmware before I set up any of the hardware and the 108Mbps system is up and running. I can't say if this system will work tomorrow, but today I am very suprised at how it works.

Summary: Definitely worth considering
Review: I bought the router along with DWL-G650 wireless card for laptop about a week ago.
Prior to placing my order (Amazon.com) I've read tons of reviews about various routers from all major brands.
There isn't a single wireless router (within mid-price range) that would make everyone happy.
Since I had not had a wireless router before, my colleagues(programmers) as well as online reviews helped me to make this decision. This router had the least amount of negative reviews and the price was very compelling, so I went for it.
Things that I like about this router:
- Easy installation and wizard configuration;
- Great performance (I've noticed my Comcast Cable began working faster with the router connected directly to the desktop through the cable modem)
- It supports file sharing applications like eMule or Kazaa
(Note: There are some entries to be added to the Firewall configuration settings. The instructions could be easily found on the D-Link website knowledge base)
- It supports VPN access.
- It works great with D-Link DWL-G650 wireless card for my laptop. I was able to get the near a 100% strength signal with 70 to 100% quality throughout the house in between 2 walls or on a different floor.
- I was able to connect to my work computer using VPN and PCAnywhare software from the laptop (wirelessly).
- Never had connection-dropping problem yet (knock on wood).
- Toll free customer support is a great plus. Some major brands don't have toll free support!!! Some customers have complained about low level of customer support. It seems low-level customer service has become standard nowadays throughout the industry. Judging by my personal experience dealing with any customer service is a hit or miss chance. So, if you missed once, try again.
- It supports Wi-Fi standard, that may not be useful just yet, but pretty soon it may come handy, as lots of home electronics will use it more to be able to connect to home network.

Summary: Works well with Mac G4; ethernet conn. to G3 unsolved!
Review: I bought this hoping to be able to create a home network consisting of my Powerbook G4 wireless (successful after 5-6 calls to d-link tech support and 1 each to verizon and Apple) and my older Powerbook G3 hard wired into the router.
I have tried various settings to get the G3 working, called D-link and verizon (says they dont support d-link) on this separtate issue and D-link basically says that because the router is finally working with my G4, it must be something other than their hardware, and they don't care to deal with it. If anyone out there has a mac g3 hard wired to this thing...or any ideas...I would love to hear from you.....jamadd@buffnet.net. As for the wireless performance, I am so far satisfied with the device. It is my first wireless router, so I have nothing to compare with.

Summary: Great router, online in under 10 minutes
Review: This router is my first wireless one ever and I am very pleased with the purchase. After a lot of research, I decided on the D-Link. I have read that LinkSys routers set the standard for ease of use, but I cannot really imagine how much easier installation and setup can get! Honestly, I had the router setup in under 10 minutes with my laptop connected to my cable modem and accessing the internet via the router's LAN port (i.e. ethernet cable). The router sports some nice firewall features. I was not too impressed with the online help however. Several options that the router offers for configuration were not described in the online help (stored in router firmware). The D-Link support site has decent information, perhaps enough for you to get most problems taken care of. However, I had an issue when using the D-Link DWL-G650 card with WAP security which after about 6 hours of frustration got resolved in about 5 minutes with a phone call to customer service. Anyway, this was no fault of the router itself since the blame lies on the outdated driver D-Link ships with the PC card. I use AT&T VPN solution to access my office network and the router works just fine. The DHCP server came up just fine and my machines were happily on the network via wires.
Pros:
- easy to setup
- good security features
- D-Link website has pretty good cust service info
- IPSEC VPN passthrough worked without any issues
Cons:
- online help included in firmware not the best
- Several advanced options of firewall etc not very well documented (ie. not that easy to use for those inexperience with advanced security settings)
Overall, I'd give this router a 4.5 stars and would definitely consider it a good buy for both the novice as well as experienced computer users.

Summary: I get 108mpbs but it took 10 hours of hard work
Review: The DI-624 is a very powerful Router with great signal strength. I am using Time Warner Roadrunner Cable here at my home in NYC and set up was simple. It took me 10 minutes to get 54 mpbs on my laptops. All the problems I had involved using the DWL-G650 card on my 3 Fujitsu Laptops and trying to get 108 mpbs. My Win XP Professional laptops recognized my DWL-G650 pc card and connected to the wireless network, but the d-link's own utility could not see the card and the network. Customer support at D-Link was clueless and inept. Don't even bother trying to call them. They will only make the situation worse. After 10 hours of pain and suffering, I finally was able to update D-Links Driver to the internal modem of my laptop. XP Professional was very stubborn. But I won out. The 624 Router gets 5 stars from me. The DWL-G650 gets only 3 1/2. D-Links customer service gets a Zero. Unless you are good at computers, get a Pro to set this up for you. It is hard.

Summary: Almost but no cigar !!
Review: I purchased the DI 624 and DWL G650 combination. The price was great and the advertised feature set impressive. I received a 624 Rev C and and a DWLG650 Rev B4. Out of the box setup in about 10 minutes. Then I went for the SuperG mode (108mbps) and got it working when in close proximity to the access point even though the Dlink Air Plus configuration utility said my connection was poor. Went about 75' away and my signal was listed as excellent but could only achieve 54mbps. Next I tried to enable WPA-PSK, the main reason I bought this combo. I spent around 2 hours trying to get this to work to no avail. The online help at Dlink is outdated by about six months. My Rev of card is not even listed, I contacted tech support via email and I did receive a response in 48 hours but the response was elementary and had been tried in many variations. My router boots itself so far around once a day for no reason and I occaisonally lose wireless connection while surfing. I have 15 years in networking and have built many wireless networks. While this product has potential it does not work as advertised. There are definitely isssues with the advanced features of this router and card. A home user might be able to live with this but this will not suffice for anyone in business. Dlink needs to address these issues. There are many posts on the internet for this hardware with the same issues.

Summary: Constant reboots. Annoying.
Review: This is a great router if you don't plan on ever doing any serious usenet downloads or p2p file sharing. The massive traffic generated by either of these applications makes the router think it's being pinged to death. Instead of filtering out the requests or doing something else, the router reboots itself! How great is that. Several firmwares later and the problem remains. As of the 2.42 firmware, this router is vulnerable to the 'targa3' exploit, a test of which results in a reboot. Many other routers are not vulnerable to targa3, but this one is. I'd advise against the DI-624. Its been nothing but trouble.

Summary: Long range, high speed, no-ip.com DDNS, great support
Review: After having bought (and returned) the SMC SMC2804WBRP-G and the Linksys WCG200, I purchased the D-Link DI-624. The most impressive feature of this router is the range. It is located in my basement with many walls between it and the computers. I consistently get 4/5 signal, with speed to match, at the furthest point in my house. The 2.42 version of the software supports DDNS. I happen to use No-IP.com. The DI-624 supports this whereas many routers only support DynDNS.org or TZO.com. This was a nice surprise. I had question concerning the DDNS and called customer support. I was on hold for maybe a minute before my call was answered. The tech then told me exactly how long I had to wait for him to get the answer and, sure enough, within the promised two minutes, he returned with the answer. Contrast that to the previous night where I spent my evening on hold with linksys and suffered through two disconnects. The firmware may not appear as visually polished as the firmware in the various linksys products but don't let that fool you. Feature for feature, the DI-624 delivers. I did not yet have a chance to try the Super G mode with combines channels and performs other performance enhancements. But at 802.11g rates and after my experiences with other products, I'm quite happy with the native performance. I am writing this on my Mac PowerBook and also have a Windows XP machine so, as you can see, the router is compatible with the Airport card in the Mac. If you are looking for a solid performer, I definitely would recommend the DI-624.

Summary: Definitely a.... NOT BUY
Review: I purchased this router yesterday (from the date of this review). I was thinking to myself this is going to be a great router to keep the network going for a long time. Boy, was I wrong (and an idiot). Every spare moment I got I worked on getting this running. Others have written 6 hours and then 5 min with the tech support. Trust me, it aint 5 min its 1 1/2 of my life that i can never get back. And besides, why does a product always need tech support....c mon dlink make it easy. Personally unless your a "computer networking genius" stay clear of this one. And dont, if you do buy a router,get the fastest one because on my computers 60 percent is has high as it goes even 5 feet away from the router. Think what you want to....my opinion on this product....dont buy.... try a microsoft or netgear. -Later

Summary: Buggy, faulty POS
Review: I am an experienced IT guy and I know faulty products when I see them. The 624 has numerous bugs in the WLAN and the PPPoE implementations. I immediately ran into problems when trying to run a server behind this unit and when trying to connect different pieces of D-Link and non-D-Link WLAN equipment. Googling around shows many others having the same problems with these units, and D-Link support doing nothing to help. Main problems:
- Frequent inexplicable reboots (UDP streams seem especially poisonous to this sensitive machine)
- WLAN and LAN connection problems (can be solved by turning off WLAN functionality, but that kind of negates the idea with the product)
- Loss of WAN connection over PPPoE.
Will buy some other brand next time.
