Summary: Overall, fine product as advertized.
Review: Overall, this product has a better wireless range than my old wireless router. The only problem that I have is that it hang up quite often like once every other day. I downloaded the latest firmware 3.0.2 but it does not help. I have to push the little button at the back of the box to reset the box, then connect to the box using wired (wireless does not work all the time) connection, then the wireless connection works. I also have problem with the tech support's English. If someone knows a version of the firmware provides more stable connection, please post a message.Thank you.

Summary: Works great
Review: (...). Kept losing connection. Both the WGT624 with the PC card WG511T. it works like a charm right out the box. installed the PC card first on a XP machine, router next and bingo was on line. Total time of install less than 25 minutes (including the time to install the software).
PRO:Quick install, never loss connection,near automatic configration.
CON: Expensive than most 802.11g, did not get the 108mbs speeds as yet.

Summary: !!!Great Disappointment!!!
Review: I did my homework via the tech web sites and PC magazines and had high expectations. I carefully purchased all Netgear equipment with the new 108 Mpbs standard, and consulted with a professional during the installation. Reception faded badly beyond 25-30 feet from the router, with no other electronic equipment in operation. I lost the signal entirely once I turned on my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone. I anticipated some interference from the phone, but this is ridiculous.
After spending over an hour on the phone with Netgear tech support dealing with someone I could not understand for the thick accent and who was clearly reading from a script, I boxed up over $300.00 of equipment and returned it for a refund.
I am extremely happy with my D-Link ethernet router and hard wired network!!!

Summary: shabby range....
Review: I had pretty high expectations purchasing this product. After researching many different routers on the internet I thought I would give this one a try because it boasted excellent speed and range. While i can agree it is very fast and works very well within the confines of one room it definately lacks long range performance. I was barely able to get 60 ft away from the router, albeit this distance does require the signal going through two rooms. Tech support wasn't much help and said they don't guarantee it will operate well in other rooms besides the one the router was located in. Not to mention b/w the three calls placed, I couldn't understand one of the techs. They all seemed foreign and really struggled with the english language. All in all my experience with NetGeart was not very favorable. -

Summary: Netgear WGT624 was slower than old Linksys befw11s4ug
Review: I have the new WGT624 Netgear router and it was slower than my old Linksys befw11s4ug. I also disabled the SPI and performance improved. I have the setup the same on both routers -- MAC spoofing, as I am an old bridged account with my ISP and my MAC is used for authentication When I connected directly from PC or through the Linksys, pages load fast (www.edmunds.com is a good test). When I connect with the WGT624, pages load slow. When I run a bandwidth test at »bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ my download speed is 1.3 Mbps with the WGT624. I ran the same test with the tool on www.broadbandreports.com and the speed was 1.1 Mbps. I disabled SPI based on the post from jeeames from Houston, TX and that increased the speed to almost that of the Linksys. Also, the router does not work well with Alcatel modems. I had my ISP send me a new modem from Westell and things improved--Netgear will send Alcatel owners a special cable to connect between the modem and router, but I found the performance slow (I am not sure if the problem was really the cable or SPI, as I did not try the router with the cable connected to the Alcatel 1000 and SPI turned off). Now that I connected, I am generally happy with the router--it took a month, three routers, a new modem, a service call with my ISP and a lot of time, but I have increased my wireless surfing in my house several fold. I am waiting on Netgear to send out a firmware update that addresses the SPI issue.

Summary: It's all in the experience...
Review: I've set up hundreds of firewalls and routers over the years, wired and wireless, and I've seen all sorts of outrageous manufacturer claims about ease of use and functionality. This is the first product that delivered. I switched to Cable from DSL and when my old equipment wouldn't cut it, I bought this little gem. Plugged it in, auto-configured everything, and it worked the first time. My last router took me hours to get set up right. This one figured it out by itself. If you need a new router, buy this one. Downside? The range is not as good as my old wireless hub.

Summary: It's ok with rooms for improvement
Review: Though I don't need another router, I bought this Netgear WGT624 to replace my linksys BEFS41, due to: 1) I need a wireless access point 2) the additional firewall 3) it's cheaper to buy a wireless router than an access point 4) it has 108Mbps. Managing the firewall through the web browser works as expected but a little disappointing. I can never complete an update without reloading the page several times though the update will go through at the end. If other computes are online while making configuration changes, the throughput will drop significantly for a brief moment, i.e. other users will be interrupted. The firewall features are primitive. Most software firewalls are much more sophisticated than this one. On the other hand, the wireless works flawlessly and I'm able to connect up to the maximum speed published. I also don't notice any noticeable throughput difference compare to my linksys router.

Summary: Can't connect to some 10 Mb/s modems
Review: When I first tried this router, it wouldn't connect with my DSL modem (as another reviewer stated). After escallating this with a level 3 technician, I learned that the router has problems connecting to 10 Mb/s modems such as my Alcatel Speed Touch Home (at least as of version 1.1.1 firmware). The workaround was to uplink the DSL modem output to 100 Mb/s through a 10/100 switch or hub. Hopefully Netgear will correct the 10 Mb/s issue. Other than that, the router works great!

Summary: Defective
Review: Received it today, unhooked my Netgear RP114 and replaced it with the new WGT624. Setup was easy, but it would never talk to the DSL modem. No lights blinking. Tried different Cat5 cables, nada. Called Netgear tech support and had a hard time understanding the broken english. Could never get anyone to assist me. It's obviously defective so I'll be returning this product tomorrow!

Summary: Works Well!
Review: This router when paired with the Netgear WG511T does a very good job. The range is significantly better than other access points I've used (like the DLINK 614+ and 713P). I have the WAP in a corner of the house downstairs and I can use it at the other corner of the house, upstairs, and on a waterbed with nearly a full speed connection (a claimed connection speed of 96Mbps). A file copy transfer speed was about 40Mbps, which is close to copies done on a wired LAN and really is 10x faster than when using the DLINK 802.11B routers (This is not a shot at DLINK which in fact does have good products IMO). The router contains the usual set of configuration options including dynamic DNS support and a port forwarding. There is also "block sites" list by domain and/or keyword. I don't really see much this because IMO nobody is going to type in all the bad sites into a router. One very nice feature is one can update the firmware with literally one button click. All these routers update the firmware after the product is released and feature makes the update pretty painless. My new router was apparently already several updates behind they day I bought it. After clicking the button it connects to a Netgear server to do the update. You can also update it from a disk file if needed. The router does UPnP as all of them do now, but you have to explicity turn it on via one of the setting pages. Seems like most people would want that on. One of the goodies on the install disk is some kind of 'special edition' "Freedom" brand firewall program from Zeroknowledge. It seems to be at least adequate but I've never heard of them before. It contains an 'ad blocker', but the ad list is poorly populated (they claim to update this list). You appear to get free updates to this software so there may be some potential here, especially if they did a better job with that ad list.
Overall this is a good product for the price and highly recommended.
