Summary: Wonderfull Item
Review: After reading the reviews on this site, I was a little weary as to purchasing this product. Especially considering I have SBC DSL, with a speed stream modem, that conveniently has the exact same ip address as the router.
All I had to do was unplug the DSL modem, log directly into the router, Change the ip, and make sure that the ip I set the router to would not be issued to the workstations. Also to get the 108Mb card to work I had to use wireless channel 6.
Once this was done everything works great

Summary: Fast Easy Svelte Safe
Review: I bought the WGT624 a few days ago and was up and running in less than half an hour using the web and email from 2 different machines. The other computer which is wirelessly connected to the 624 uses a USB 11.b (from Netgear i think ME101) adapter and it connected without a hitch. The firewall part of the router is straight forward, even though the web based interface is slow. be patient for those new settings to take hold (30 sec.) if you use p2p voice_ip and such be prepared to know a little something about which ports those apps need and how to free them up. I live in an old house with huge stonewalls (2.5 feet thick) and it doesn't seem to slow the connection at all. the second computer is 30 feet away, 2 rooms between and the reception is "excellent" To me the WGT624 is a winner

Review: The device claims 108 mbps at "up to 500 feet" I have not been able to maintain a reliable 54 mbps connection at 30 feet. Netgear tech support claims 108 mbps connections "three houses away". I have less than 50% signal strength across the street and I cannot get a 108 mbps connection next less than 5 feet from the hub. Netgear tech support has not responded to my last e-mail dated 2/5/04 as of 2/13/04.The interface is simple to use and setup can be complete in less that 15 minutes for a reasonably savvy person. The interface is a little buggy but not so that most users would notice. For example, the firmware level is not visible by way of any button, tab or link that I have been able to find. A genuine logging function of inbound and outbound packets would be nice. A text based telnet setup would be a plus.

Review: Just rec'd the wgt624. Heard that there was a firmware fix from other posts here. Went to check it out. asked for my serial number and I got the following response:
Your router has been identified to have a compatibility issue with the current available firmware upgrades. It is an issue that is related to the internal flash memory of the router and additional firmware upgrades may cause it to lose its basic functionality. Therefore, Netgear recommends that you take no additional actions with the router for the time being. Although this affects only a small batch of units, there is currently no firmware or software fix for this issue. As part of the Netgear commitment to our customers, Netgear is offering to swap your router with a replacement that does not have this issue. To proceed with a replacement request, click here Love that quality control... we'll see if I keep the product, and how amazon handles return policy on this one... I may change my rating later depending...

Summary: no complaints - Toshiba Satellite match in heaven
Review: It's fast, easy to set-up and fun to sit on the couch and browse. For two or more people living under one roof with lap-tops, it definitely makes sense. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. For those of you not router savvy (myself included), connect the computer you intend to be wireless through the router FIRST with a hardline, make an internet connection and THEN make a wireless connection. You may have to adjust settings in (XP) control panel. ...

Summary: Bad Experience - Don't Buy
Review: I bought this router to work with my cable internet. The router kept on making my Sony Vaio laptop crash again and again. THe customer service is bad, I mean really bad, they had no clue and asked me to return the router. Unfortunately Amazon.com charged me a restocking fee, so overall a very bad experience. Try Linksys, works really well for me now.

Summary: Great range, cumbersome firmware update
Review: Over the last couple of years I have set up over 50 wireless networks, using most major brands. Just for reference, my favorite router is the Dell 2300, which not only offers good reliability but also great range and the best customization features on any residential router so far. I set up this router with FW3.02 in parallel to a Dell, expecting it to offer lower signal levels, but I was plesantly surprised that it in fact offered 2-5dB higher levels at most locations and actually gave me great range. Set up was straight forward, firmware upgrade with serial number is cumbersome. Configuration options are good, but no access point mode (can usually be faked by diabling dhcp and using lan1 input) and no bridge mode(like Dell), are a set-back, in particular since Netgear advertizes this as a "commercial grade" product. Pros:

Summary: Easy set up and works just fine
Review: I am your basic non-computer geek and I got this router set up along with a Netgear card on 2 laptops in about an hour total. It works fine on both I was worried about the interaction with the connection I have to use to get into the network were I work but I didn't have any problems.
I set up the SSID and password and all is well. It works in every room of my house, upstairs and down
Oh yeah, referencing another review: I have a 2.4 ghz phone and I found it had no effect on using this router and card

Summary: Not Working yet : UPDATED Works now

It finally works - after receiving a "Special" Ethernet cable (whatever that is, I asked but got only that it was a better quality) and another new router. As stated below I had to send the 1st one back to Amazon. Got the second one and had the problems below. After one more call to customer support I demanded a supervisor and got one. We went over the issues I was sent another brand new router (that could be upgraded to the new firmware). I had to scratch and claw to get the new one sent for free, but they did it. The thing works great now and I am happy. I had to go through ALOT to get this situation resolved, but in the end it was worth it. 5 stars for the product, minus 1 for all the trouble it took to get it to work.
---------------------------------------------------------------- So far this product stinks! Could see the SSID and connect to it with my laptop, but could not get the router to work with my ISP. Kept telling me I had a Static IP, but I do not. I am with Comcast and everything is dynamic. So after an hour on the phone (45min wait) with support, the 1st one was deemed to be bad. After a quick return through Amazon, I now have #2. Guess what same problem. So on you phone support again (45min wait), did the dog and pony show of reboots and such, no good. So firmware revision 3.02 is guranteed to fix the problem.
So I reconnect everything, go to netgear.com, go to downloads, enter my serial #, BAM, In nice red letters, "your router cannot be upgraded to do a flash memory problem," but being how they care for their customers, Netgear will replace my router. Oh so nice of them! It would have been nice of the Tech Support to ask for my serial # and he could have told me I couldn't upgrade! So that is where I stand, waiting for an email from Netgear on how this will work. I still have to wait for another router. They get one last shot at this and I'm off to Linksys. Pro's so far:
The wirless card WG511T works great at school, so I know it works
I was able to see the WGT624 with that same card at 89% strength, so if the darn thing every gets on the Internet I should be good to go.
Although the wait for customer support is long, they are nice and speak relativly good English Cons:

I had to speak to a rep that is not in the US I'll update when my journey is complete.

Summary: Incompatibilty with DSL Modem
Review: I experienced a problem which can't be fixed by the Netgear or D-link support desk. If you are using an Alcatel DSL modem (speed touch home), Netgear router Wgt624 and D-Link DI 624 are incompatible with this equipment. I bought both and was not able to connect them through PPPoE to my ISP. Both router were returned to the store. My only solution was to return to Linksys standard B router BEFSW11s4. I didn't find any information about DSL modem compability. Hope this review help.
