Summary: Excellent features, but in practice this unit has probems
Review: I upgraded from a Linksys firewall and Apple Airport to this unit and was delighted with the great price, wireless range, and configurable features (although there is no way to log attempted intrusions). But once I fired up iChat and tried to video chat I was defeated by this router, which simply refuses to let video or audio chat work, and Netgear even acknowledge there is a problem with this at their support pages. This had worked perfectly through the Linksys. Then, as I worked further with the router, I discovered that the wireless connection is spotty - dropping maybe twice an hour for a few seconds at a time. Again, this seems to be something many compain of.Overall, it seems wonderful, but has ultimately let me down. I am looking for a new router.

Summary: Ignore the bad reviews! I had it up in 5 minutes.
Review: I don't understand why everyone is having such issues with this router. I had mine up and running in about 5 minutes and I even have a mac. You can't beat this for the price.

Summary: Works for a while....
Review: I have the router for about 6 months. It worked great for the first 5 months or so... solid connection and easy to use. Now it is very flaky with the wireless part.... I used to connect fine with a WGE101 wireless bridge (never shutdown, but that maybe the problem). Slowly it moves from excellent connection to a hit/miss thing and recently has stopped working totally.
The version that I got was version 1... which probably means it is the worst of the bunch....

Summary: Its phenomenal!!!
Review: I've had this set for about two weeks now. The range is exceptional. I live in an 1100 sq. ft. condo and I get 100% signal strength and link quality wherever I go. Upstairs, downstairs. It doesn't matter. I'm covered. Also, I have an unattached garage located about 30 feet from my condo. I can go in there and still get reception although signal strength drops about 50%. This is amazing coverage. In addition to the range, there's a mess of features. Encryption, 64 and 128 bit, you can restrict connectivity to certain cards MAC addresses as well as port forwarding for games, IM and P2P. Its all wrapped up in a neat, simple package. As if the features and range weren't enough, the router itself is tiny (4" X 6") yet still supports 4 ports. Netgear go this completely right.

Summary: Do Not Buy if You Have SBC DSL
Review: Its a waste of lot's of time to try and use this product if you have SBC DSL service. No one can help despite hours of trying. Netgear's on-line help was a nightmare, particularly since the person could barely speak english and was based in Bangladesh.

Summary: Good Product, Don't expect you're rebate
Review: I bought this router about 9 monthes ago. I chose Netgear because they are fairly cheap and still a decent company. I could have purchased a 3com router for approximately the same price, but went to with the WGR614 because of the mail in rebate. After recieving this router I mailed in the rebate. After checking online my rebate was not accepted due to the fact that I did not submit a reciept. I did in fact send in my amazon invoice, but I guess that isn't good enough. I'm not sure what else they could want. If you buy from Amazon just don't expect to get you're rebate. Other than that, this is a great product.

Summary: Didn't work for me
Review: I had bad luck with this product. I found the setup process easy enough, but the box was not very reliable. Ever few days it would lock-up for some unknown reason. I had to power cycle the box to make it work again. I've now replaced it with an equivalent Linksys 802.11g router box which has been problem-free.

Summary: Nice
Review: Works great. I plugged it in and it automatically found an open network in my neighborhood, connected, and gave my PC an IP address via DHCP -- this is with no configuration at all. I jumped over to the http configuration page and told it to connect to my (more) secure network, which does not broadcast its SSID, and uses WEP encryption -- worked. Left it on overnight, still worked in the morning. I use it with my Linux PC because I got tired of fiddling with the unstable drivers for 802.11g cards. I'm a happy camper.

Summary: Great Wireless Access Point, HORRIBLE Cable/DSL router
Review: I purchased a WGR614v2 along with a Netgear WG511 802.11g card for my laptop and have been using it for several months now. As an access point, I am very impressed. Without putting much thought into its position (it is a floor below where I typically connect to it from), my signal strength ranges from 'very good' to 'excellent' (so says windows). It was straightforward to set up, and is managing at least 18 Mbit real-world transfer rates even two floors away. I had hoped I could use it to replace the aging Linksys Cable/DSL router which I've been using for several years, as I've had a few problems with the Linksys. Unfortunately, the Netgear is much, *much* worse. Even after configuring port forwarding, I am unable to complete FTP uploads reliably, whether in active or passive mode. Worse yet, I am completely unable to play online games such as Wolfenstein or Quake 3. After playing for several minutes, the router will cease forwarding my outgoing UDP packets to the internet (incoming packets are still delivered..), resulting in a bizarre situation where I can see the game going on around me, but cannot move or interact with it, and am subsequently unable to reconnect. Even after upgrading to the latest firmware, these problems have persisted, and I suspect there are serious bugs in NATing any kind of UDP traffic (games, VoIP, etc). For this reason, I advise any potential buyer to avoid this router.

Summary: Wireless Connection Unstable
Review: I have been fighting this router ever since I received it. My laptop connects to other wireless routers with no problems but connecting to this netgear router is intermittent (even when I set my laptop right next to the router). Get something else!
