Summary: This thing rocks...
Review: Well, I started out buying a Linksys wireless B router and notebook card. I bought Linksys because of brand recognition and I figured having both the router and card from the same manufacturer would yield the best results. After setting them up, the reception was horrible. My download speeds over my cable modem from my laptop were worse than dialup speeds. I promptly packed them up and sent it back. I read similar reviews for both the Netgear products and Linksys that had good and bad results. Many of the reviewers with bad results recommended the competing products. Anyways, with the rebates offered for the Netgear setup, it was gonna cost me a few more dollars, but it was a wireless G setup instead. So, I took the chance and ordered this router with the WG511 notebook card. Setup was a breeze and the signal and speed are phenomenal. I was starting to think that I might have to move the router around the house for a better signal, but it works superbly in the same location the Linksys router couldn't. Yeeha!

Summary: Easy to setup, super reliable
Review: As a certified LAN-newbie, I was looking for a product that would be easy to setup and deliver performance. This product excels on both counts. I had absolutely no problems setting up this router, and it performs beautifully. My Linksys WPC55AG network card and Dell Truemobile devices have no problem connecting to the WAP. I am very satisfied with this purchase, and you can't go wrong with the mail-in rebate! Highly recommended.

Summary: Unreliable weak signal, at least with Apple Airport
Review: Got this unit to replace original Apple Airport and to upgrade to "g" assuming this would somehow be an improvement. The software and setup of the netgear was itiotproof, and also offers many great features. I used it for a few hours at about 5 feet away. Then went to other side of apartment, where the old apple airport would still give 5 out of 5 signal strength. The netgear would drop down to 4 out of 5 (shouldn't be a problem) but the connection would always drop and never resume without resetting the base station. Tried various combinations of settings and different locations but always the same result. Went back to the old Airport and got back total reliability. Also, using a cablemodem, you just won't see a difference between the old "b" and the new (apparently flakier) "g" you are always limited by the slowest link and "b" is plenty faster than a 1MB cable modem. What a waste of time I should have just stuck with what I had. Maybe you should too if you are just "preemptively upgrading" as I was.

Summary: Expectations not met
Review: I bought this router 2 weeks ago along with the WG511 card. I have it connected to a cable modem. I found the design clean enough and the instructions clear.Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it working. My first challenge is that when I tried to call the help line, it took me what must have been 45-60 minutes of waiting to get to talk to someone on the phone. When I got through, I hit my second challenge -- it turned out that the WAN speed had to be set to 10 Mbps for it to work. Actually, not all Netgear's technicians seem to know this, since the support guys had to ask around. My third challenge is that now that I have it installed, I cannot get it to reach the room at the opposite side of the house where I need it most. The signal strength says 60%, but that does not seem sufficient. So I am going to have figure out how to wire the house to move it closer. Overall, including other questions, I have spent several hours on the phone with Netgear. The one bright side is that Netgear's technical support, particularly the group in India, was particularly helpful and patient.

Only displays the access logs for compters connected to your network. Does not display anything for outsiders trying to hack in.
No Intrusion detection system.
Cannot be sure of SPI firewall working, as the logs don't show hack attempts being blocked. Would not recommend for fully securing your internal network. You are better off using FM114P or FR114 product from Netgear.

Summary: It doesn't get much better than this
Review: Less than 10 minutes to set up both the router and the laptop card! I've done Linksys Phone Line, SMC wired router and a friend's Linksys wireless (.11b) and this was by far the easiest. I had concerns about temporarily using the Netgear router as an access point, but I just plugged one of the cables from my SMC into the WAN port on the Netgear and bang! I was on the web. Configuration couldn't have been easier or more automatic. I'd recommend this to anyone considering wireless, especially with the rebates being offered.

Summary: Excellent speed and range - 4 Minute Installation
Review: I installed this router in 4 minutes, literally. The router is installed on the 2nd floor and I'm using the Netgear wireless card on my laptop in the basement. The connection is great. The installation was flawless and quick. I had a D-Link wireless router and card before this and it barely worked one floor away. The price was excellent with the rebate, the total for the card and the router came to [money] (no tax and no shipping). I am completely satisfied.

Review: It took me 5 minutes to convert wired LAN into a wireless LAN with this router. The configuration wizard is *very* easy to use. With in 5 minutes, I was out on my deck, surfing the web with out an ethernet cable attached to my laptop.

Summary: Worked Right Out of the Box!
Review: Worked right out of the box for me. Followed simple installation guide and access to internet on the wired computer (Compaq running MS ME) was no problem (Time Warner cable modem w/ Earthlink). Tried wireless function for both my work laptop (Cisco "b" card) computer and my wife's (Dell TrueMobile 1300) - no problem. Range within the house and into the backyard - no problem (some signal strength loss - as expected). Will work on setting up security next - I am a novice at this and have to read the manuals a bit more... I would recommend the product.
