Summary: Speed is better than wired DSL
Review: This router installed almost automatically in the back bedroom (office) of a single story 2000 sq ft home. The companion Netgear WG511 recognized the wireless signal as soon as the CD finished the installation. I waited a long time to try wireless and have been skeptical. No longer. It works, it's fast and it's taken the mess of wires out of my family room.

Summary: Out of the Box Compatibility
Review: I struggled with which system to purchase after my very cheap wireless router quit working. I went with this system b/c of the reviews and my desire for a 802.11g system. I live in a two story townhome so reception and compatibility with my roomates windows 98 desktop were major concerns. My roomate simply plugged in his old system w/o making any changes but could not get the router to work. Luckily he remembered the trick of typing 'ping' into the run command in windows which released all his old connections. After this he was able to use the router w/o problems. As for myself, I plugged in the Netgear 802.11g card into my lab top (running windows XP) and after running the software was instantly online. The router is on the second story of my home and I use the lab top primarly on the first floor. My connection and quality are always at 100% regardless, thus I am very satisfied. I recomend this product to anyone trying to decide between all the different brands because I know this one works.

Summary: Great Product
Review: I installed this with no issues, and not having networked anyting before. Setup was as automatic as they claim. Getting great results on my P4 2.4 xp living room machine and with my P3 800 Windows Me basement machine, connecting to verizon adsl with 3 walls in between.

Summary: great router!
Review: after reading the wonderful reviews about this router I decided to give it a try and i dont regret it one bit. im running it on windows 2000 with the netgear 311 pc card and the netgear 511 pci adapter. the pci card is 50-60 ft away through two walls and still gets 36 sometimes 48 mbps. the pc card hardly goes below 36 through the whole house. i experimented with different positions for the router and found that i got the best signal by placing it in an elevated position. blazing speed with this router, it sure beats 11mbps. have yet to try a b device on the network though. installation and configuration is a snap. i had the network going within 15 mins of opening the box. overall, great product from netgear.

Summary: Lightning Fast Wireless
Review: This product is everything it is advertised to be and better than I expected. Installation was a snap on desktop running Win XP and wireless connection to a Laptop running Win 2000 with the WG511 PC Card. I am in a 1700 sq foot tri-level townhome and I have excellent wireless signal strength and lightning fast internet connection to my cable modem absoultely anywhere in the house. I dont understand some of the issues others have reported here as this product has performed flawlessly for me. I have even walked down the street with my laptop until I lose the router signal and then watched it automatically connect again when I get back into range. My only minor concern is that the installation defaults to open access to the wireless gateway, so you need to go through some extra steps on your own to secure your wireless network. I would highly recommend this product based on the ease of installation, excellent wireless reception and consistently fast wireless throughput.

Summary: Time to go G
Review: Compare with the D-Link wireless network I installed 2 years ago, installation of Netgear is just ABC. All you need is read the instructions, install the software, then hardware and it's ok to use. I installed cards in WinXP, Win2K & Win98SE all w/o problem.
Pro: professional outlook, excellent range, easy setup & security setting, reasonable price (if you could take advantage of Amazon's offer).
3 years warranty is good enough, lifetime is meaningless. Always turn the system on, if it don't break at the first few months then it last. Also, these products were made in Taiwan so quality is better (insider of electronic manufacturing should known this better)
My experience for ALL Technical Support -- forget it, most just wasting time. Some did give me HINTS to solve the problems I met, but overall none can solve the questions I asked. I got no reason to believe Netgear can do better than others. I don't blame coz one really need to be an expert to solve problems over phone, orindary customers should read the instruction carefully before install the products to avoid trouble.
I didn't have time to try out everything yet (still use g & b mode coz need to wait for Amazon's gift certificate to buy another wireless card to complete my network) but so far so good, won't be regret to buy 1 router/AP + 1 PCI card + 3 PC cards in this price for such performance. 5 stars!!!

Summary: Solid 11g performer - great range and stability
Review: I am using this router for three weeks now.
With a WG511 card in one laptop and a built in broadcom 54g in another. 128bit WEP enabled and no connectivity issues with either of the two. Connection is rock solid and reaches more than 250 feet through one Window into the front yard.
Definately a buy!

Summary: Buy this router!
Review: I read all the reviews here and elsewhere prior to deciding to buy this router. I have to say I am very impressed! I upgraded to this router from the MR814 802.11B router. This router is identical to the MR814 except that it's about 1/3rd the size! It literally fits in the palm of my very large hand!

When I took it out and connected it, I found that I didn't need the software Cd that came with it as it is mostly just help files anyway and I was able to figure it out on my own.

Setup was a snap and I was done within 10 minutes.

Nice Features:

- 10/100mb WAN port! Most routers only have a 10mb WAN port. Odds are that your cable modem or DSL isn't faster than 10mb right now, but this router will support 100mb if you ever upgrade your connection! One thing to watch out for with this: The WAN port is set to Speed: Auto by default and some cable modems don't like that (mine didn't), so you go into the setup page and change the WAN port speed to 10mb on a simple drop down menu. This is documented in a separate notice in the box that you can't miss (good work Netgear).

- Tiny!! This thing literally takes a fraction of the desk real estate my old one did!

- FAST! I use this with a Netgear WG511 802.11G wireless laptop card and it is FAST! Connection speed is great even through 5 sheetrock walls (one floor Ranch style house).

If you're not a very technology saavy person (your kid has to program the VCR) then use common sense: READ THE HELP FILES ON THE CD!!! Netgear put quite a bit of info on the help files on the CD (which you can also get from their website). This router is not complicated to get going. All you have to do is follow directions.

Here is the general rule when setting up and troubleshooting router/broadband connections:

- Setup your router using the wizard in the setup web page

- once setup is done turn off EVERYTHING! That means that your Cable modem, router, and ALL pc's connected to the router should be turned off!

- Turn things back on in the following order waiting 30 to 60 seconds between each:
-Cable Modem
-Router
-PC

This will fix 99% of lost connection problems.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this router (did I mention it's tiny?).

Summary: It took some tweaking ... but now it works!
Review: I recently bought the WGR614 along with some WG311 and WG511 cards to set up a wireless network in my home. I would describe my computer tech skills as average, and set up was relatively a snap.

However, once set up I found the signal strength to be inconsistent with frequently disconnections. Worse, every time I turned on the wireless units, they were unable to find a signal until I had logged on the router configuration utility and re-set the settings. Moreover, I couldn't log on to any website that utilized a Secured Socket Layer (SSL) connection, including the Windows Automated Update function, my E-bay user account, and most internet retailers. I spent the better part of a week reading the Netgear manual and searching the web to find solutions to these issues.

Fortunately, all these problems were solved by Netgear Technical Support. The first --- weak and inconsistent signals --- was solved by downloading the router software upgrade. The second --- dropped connections --- was solved by creating unique IP addresses for each of the remote units. The third --- inability to access SSL connections, was caused by a conflict between my Bellsouth DSL modem and the Netgear router. It was solved by changing the MTU speed from 1500 to 1492 in the Wan settings for the router. That last problem about drove me crazy trying to solve it, because I kept getting misleading Error messages from the Microsoft website.

I'm sure these issues would be easily discovered and corrected by someone with more technical skills. (I had never heard of MTU speeds, let alone assigning unique IP addresses to each of my computers). I probably gained a few gray hairs trying to solve these issues. Fortunately, now that they're resolved, I'm pleased with my purchase of the router and wireless cards.

Summary: Better before the upgrade
Review: I am using this router with a linksys compact usb adapter. when I upgraded the firmware, I could not connect anymore with a signal below 30%.
I reverted back to the initial firmware even if I lost the security of disabling the SSID.
Also I could not get it to work at 54mbps with another box fitted with a PCIg from linksys, support could not help me out. Until now I guess I did not get advantage of the g over the b.
Otherwise this works fine and is very easy to set up, range is ok
